Tashkent witnessed a pivotal diplomatic and academic outreach as India’s Secretary (South), Neena Malhotra, arrived in Uzbekistan. Her itinerary included a key visit to the Mahatma Gandhi Center for Indology at Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies (TSUOS).

Malhotra held interactive sessions with scholars and young learners, deliberating on ways to enhance cultural-educational linkages. The talks spotlighted joint efforts to popularize Hindi alongside other Indian tongues, opening new avenues for collaboration.

According to official announcements, she delivered the main speech at the TSUOS conference themed ‘Empowering Women in the Global South – Pathways to Sustainable Development.’ In her address, Malhotra stressed that empowering women is indispensable for inclusive development and enduring advancement in developing regions.

India’s envoy Smita Pant joined her for the center’s visit and a roundtable discussion titled ‘Women in the Literature of Uzbekistan and India.’ Participants delved into the profound impacts of women on societal progress, scientific innovation, and cultural enrichment in both nations.

Appreciation was extended to university rector Prof. G.S. Rakhshiyeva for her dedication to Indology. The conversations ventured into fresh prospects for academic partnerships, cultural interflows, and language education, all geared towards fortifying grassroots connections between Indians and Uzbeks.

This visit marks a milestone in bilateral relations, reinforcing India’s strategic focus on soft power diplomacy through education and culture.
