  • Maharashtra: Man rapes, impregnates 13-year-old girl in Thane, booked

    THANE: An offence has been registered against a man for allegedly repeatedly raping and impregnating a 13-year-old girl in Maharashtra’s Thane city, police said on Friday.

    The city police on Thursday registered a case under section 376(2)(n) (rape) and other relevant provisions of the IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at Kasarwadavali police station, an official said.

    According to the police, the 30-year-old accused, a resident of Ghodbunder Road, was employed as a housekeeping staff and lived with the victim’s family since the last three years.

    The accused allegedly raped the victim whenever she was alone at home.

    The girl complained of stomach ache some time ago and she was taken to a civic hospital, where it was found that she was three months pregnant, the official said.

    The victim informed her mother about the repeated assault, following which a complaint was lodged, he said, adding that no arrest has been made in this regard so far.

  • Maharashtra: 15-year-old girl raped multiple times over eight months; 33 booked, 26 held

    THANE: A 15-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped multiple times over a period of eight months in Maharashtra’s Thane district and the police have arrested 24 persons and detained two minors in the case, an official said on Thursday.

    Based on the girl’s complaint, the Manpada police in Dombivli registered a case on Wednesday night against 33 persons under IPC sections 376 (rape), 376 (n) (repeated rape), 376 (d) (gang-rape), 376 (3) (rape on a woman under sixteen years of age) and provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, he said.

    Additional Commissioner of Police (East region) Dattatray Karale told reporters that the alleged incidents took place between January 29 and September 22 this year.

    The girl told a relative about the ordeal on Wednesday following which the complaint was registered, he added.

    “It all started when the girl’s boyfriend allegedly raped her in January and made a video. He then started blackmailing her. Subsequently, his friends and acquaintances raped her on at least four or five occasions at different places in the district including Dombivli, Badlapur, Murbad and Rabale,” Karale said.

    A special investigation team (SIT) has been formed under Assistant Commissioner of Police Sonali Dhole to probe the case, he added.

    “The victim has named 33 persons. Of them, 24 persons have been arrested and two minors detained. The girl’s condition is said to be stable,” Karale said, adding that search is on for the remaining accused.

    The arrested men were produced before a court on Thursday and were remanded in police custody till September 29, said another police official.

    Speaking to reporters in Nagpur, BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis demanded that the Maharashtra government make special efforts to prevent such crimes.

    “An atmosphere of fear is prevailing in the state. The increase in the number of such incidents is worrisome,” the former chief minister said.

    “Such an incident taking place in Dombivli which is known as a peaceful city is very shocking. We demand that the government immediately intervene,” Fadnavis added.

    On the other hand, Shiv Sena leader and deputy chairperson of the Maharashtra Legislative Council Neelam Gorhe said the incident should not be politicized.

    The survivor should be protected, given counseling and rehabilitated, she said.

    Earlier this month, the Shiv Sena-led state government had come under fire when a 34-year-old woman died after being brutally raped and assaulted inside a stationary tempo in Mumbai’s Sakinaka area.

    One person was arrested in the case.

  • Maharashtra: Teen raped; self-styled godman, victim’s mother arrested

    THANE: A woman was arrested along with a self-styled godman in Bhiwandi in Thane district for allegedly allowing him to rape her 16-year-old daughter on the pretext of curing an illness, police said on Monday.

    An acquaintance of the woman was also arrested after the teen filed a complaint with Narpoli police, an official said.

    “The complainant said she had severe neck pain and the accused claimed a dead uncle’s ghost was possessing her and that he could cure her. She was taken to a forest and raped. Her mother and her acquaintance took the teen to the jungle,” he said.

    They have been charged under provisions of IPC, the POCSO Act and Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and Other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, he added.

  • Teenage boy held for raping seven-year-old girl in Maharashtra

    THANE: An 18-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping a seven-year-old daughter of his neighbour in Navi Mumbai, police said on Sunday.

    The accused had also threatened family members of the victim against approaching the police, an official said.

    The alleged incident occurred on the June 24 night in Chinchpada area of Rabale after the accused asked the girl to accompany him to a marriage function.

    He took her to an isolated godown and sexually assaulted her, the official said.

    The accused was arrested on Friday while he was planning to flee to Nepal and booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

  • Maharashtra: Forest guard held for raping tribal woman

    THANE: A 25-year-old forest guard has been arrested for allegedly raping a tribal woman at a village in Maharashtra’s Thane district, police said on Wednesday.

    The police on Monday nabbed Rakesh Patil, a forest guard posted at the forest check post in Washind, an official from Washind police station said.

    According to the police, the incident took place on February 27, when the accused accosted the victim, forcibly entered her home when her family was away and raped her.

    The accused later fled the scene, while the victim subsequently lodged a complaint, the official said.

    A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the IPC and Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, he said The accused is currently in police custody and further probe is underway, he added.

  • Rape case against Maharashtra DySP after colleague’s complaint

    MUMBAI: An offence has been registered against a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) in Maharashtra after a woman police officer accused him of rape on the pretext of marriage, an official said on Friday.

    The alleged incident came to light when the victim, a 31-year-old assistant inspector, approached the police with a complaint of sexual assault, the official said.

    On her complaint, an FIR under IPC sections 376 (punishment for rape), 354 (D) – related to stalking – and 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty was registered at the Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Marg police station in Central Mumbai, he said.

    The incident took place when the accused was posted in Mumbai and the victim was working as his subordinate, the official said, citing the complaint.

    The accused was an Assistant Commissioner of Police at that time and is currently a DySP posted in the Marathwada region of the state, he said.

    The accused allegedly raped the woman after promising to marry her in 2019, but later started avoiding her, he said.

    As the woman felt cheated, she approached the Vishaka committee (on sexual harassment at workplace) and after an internal inquiry, the offence was registered against the DySP, he said.

    The DySP has not been arrested yet and a probe was underway, the official added.

  • Man held for kidnap, rape of 3-year-old girl in Maharashtra’s Palghar

    PALGHAR: Police have arrested a man for allegedly kidnapping and raping a three-year-old girl in Maharashtra’s Palghar district, an official said on Tuesday.

    The incident took place on Saturday when the 38-year- old accused barged into the victim’s hut at a village in Talasari taluka while she was sleeping with her mother.

    The accused allegedly kidnapped the child and took her to a nearby field where he raped her.

    He then abandoned the girl at the spot and fled, Talasari police station’s inspector Ajay Vasave said.

    Later, the child’s parents found her in the field and rushed her to a rural hospital where she is currently undergoing treatment, he said.

    The police sought the help of a dog squad and traced the accused, who worked at a factory in the neighbouring Union Territory of Daman, on the basis of slippers which he left at the spot before running away, he said.

    The accused was arrested on Sunday and a case was registered against him under Indian Penal Code Sections for rape and kidnapping, and provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

    He was on Monday produced before a local magistrate who remanded him in police custody till January 6, the police said.
