Tension gripped Hazaribagh’s Kerudari block on Thursday when heavy machinery razed the house of former minister Yogendra Saw in Jordaag, all in the presence of a formidable police contingent. This bold step by NTPC stems from a protracted feud over land compensation tied to the expansion of the Chatti Bariatu coal project.

For several days, Saw had been encamped at his property with wife Nirmala Devi, the ex-Barkagaon legislator, protesting what they deem an unfairly low compensation package. Despite the amount being settled and lodged in tribunal court upon his refusal, the impasse persisted, stalling vital mining operations.

Administrative efforts to mediate failed amid rising frictions. With project delays mounting, officials greenlit the demolition using three poclains, overseen by the block officer and NTPC team. Security forces blanketed the area to maintain order during the high-stakes operation.

Reacting swiftly, Amba Prasad, Saw’s daughter and former MLA, blasted the demolition on social platforms, labeling it an authoritarian tactic by the state machinery. Promising court battles ahead, she affirmed her trust in judicial intervention. The incident has supercharged local politics, spotlighting grievances over opaque land deals in Jharkhand’s coal-rich zones and raising questions about balancing development with landowner rights.

The Supreme Court has thrown its weight behind the Isha Foundation’s innovative gasifier-based crematoriums at its Coimbatore ashram, describing them as a noble endeavor. In a February 26 session, the court encouraged disputing parties to negotiate a peaceful resolution, appointing a retired judge as mediator.

This landmark hearing revisited a Madras High Court decision that dismissed a local landowner’s challenge. The top court noted the petitioner’s prior land sale to Isha and urged talks over the adjacent property to avoid prolonged litigation.

Parties consented to mediation by Justice Rajendran, signaling a positive step toward consensus. The Madras High Court had previously validated the project, citing full regulatory compliance and its benefits to society through modern, low-emission cremation technology.

Driven by needs expressed by panchayats from more than five villages, Isha obtained necessary clearances to construct the facility. The foundation’s decade-long efforts include maintaining 30 such sites statewide, promoting hygiene, environmental sustainability, and accessibility.

Notably, Isha’s recent partnership with Tamil Nadu authorities introduced no-cost cremations for BPL households, addressing a critical gap in funeral services for the poor. As disputes dissolve amicably, this case exemplifies how public-spirited projects can navigate legal hurdles while advancing social good.

Ranchi’s law enforcement struck a decisive blow against organized crime with the arrest of five individuals tied to a ferocious gunfight between rival factions in Pandra late Saturday. The dramatic arrests came Monday after a targeted SIT operation under SSP Rakesh Ranjan’s oversight swept through multiple locales.

Identified suspects include ringleader Sanjay Pandey, Bablu, Ravi, Ajju Sah, and one more aide, all immersed in property dealings. Preliminary questioning has uncovered vital intelligence, signaling deeper probes into their operations.

Tensions had been brewing between the Sandeep Thapa outfit and Sanjay’s crew over control of lucrative land assets. What started as a heated argument at Manya Tower spiraled into indiscriminate shooting, terrifying residents and prompting a frantic exodus from the streets.

Among the casualties were Akash Singh (hand injury), Vikas Singh (chest and arm wounds), and Ravi Yadav, all now recovering steadily. The feud traces back to a protracted 55-lakh-rupee deal gone sour on a parcel near Ring Road’s Transport Nagar.

Officers arrived swiftly post-alert, cordoned off the zone, interrogated leads, and leveraged scene evidence—including a dozen spent cartridges—to secure the arrests. This incident underscores the perilous intersection of realty and racketeering in Jharkhand’s capital, with police committing to relentless pursuit of justice and prevention.

A brutal gun battle between two underworld gangs in Ranchi has injured three men in what authorities are calling a classic case of land grab gone wrong. The incident, unfolding in broad daylight, has sent shockwaves through the community and prompted a massive police crackdown.

Tensions had been simmering for months between the rival factions, each staking claim to a disputed plot in Ranchi’s outskirts. Friday’s meeting was meant to be a showdown talk, but it devolved into chaos when one side allegedly drew first blood – or rather, first bullet.

Dramatic videos circulating on social media show armed men exchanging fire amidst fleeing crowds. ‘I hid behind my shop as bullets whizzed by,’ recounted a local shopkeeper. The three victims, all known associates of the gangs, sustained multiple injuries and are under treatment.

Ranchi police have registered an FIR under serious charges including attempt to murder and illegal arms possession. Raids are underway at the homes and hideouts of suspected shooters. ‘This is a calculated attack by land encroachers,’ said a police spokesperson.

Experts point to systemic failures in land administration as the root cause. Fraudulent mutations, missing records, and nexus between officials and criminals have made Jharkhand a hotspot for such violence. Recent state initiatives aim to digitize records, but implementation lags.

As night falls over Ranchi, extra patrols ensure calm prevails. The shootout serves as a grim reminder of the high stakes in illegal land dealings, where a patch of earth can spark a war. Investigations continue, with promises of no stone left unturned.

A significant land dispute is unfolding in Sihada village, Khandwa district, Madhya Pradesh, as the Madhya Pradesh Waqf Board Tribunal asserts its claim over the entire village. The tribunal has formally issued notices to the District Collector, the village Sarpanch, and the Panchayat Secretary, asserting that the village, home to approximately 10,000 residents, is Waqf property. These officials are summoned to appear before the Tribunal in Bhopal on November 10 to address the escalating conflict. The controversy ignited when the local Gram Panchayat issued a notice to a Dargah committee, alleging the Dargah structure was built on government land slated for a new Panchayat complex. The Dargah committee subsequently approached the Waqf Board, which countered that the land is indeed registered under the Waqf Board, not government control. The Dargah committee’s treasurer highlighted that official records from August 25, 1989, published in the state gazette under serial number 331, designate the land as Waqf property. He further emphasized the historical significance of the site, which houses an Imam Bargah, Dargah, and graveyard for nearly three centuries, invalidating any Panchayat right to alter or demolish existing structures. Village officials, including Sarpanch Kokilabai and Panchayat Secretary Devaraj Singh Sisodia, have received tribunal notices. A representative for the Sarpanch refuted the Waqf Board’s assertion, stating the land is government property and houses numerous private residences, temples, and public facilities. Concerns have been raised that validating the Waqf claim could jeopardize the homes of many villagers. The Madhya Pradesh State Waqf Tribunal will hear evidence from both parties on November 10.

Residents have intervened in the construction of homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), citing concerns over land ownership. The project, aimed at providing affordable housing, has been halted as villagers claim the land allocated for the development is government property and question the legality of its use for PMAY construction. This unexpected stoppage has raised questions about the due diligence process and land acquisition transparency for the housing scheme. Authorities are now expected to investigate the land dispute and clarify ownership before construction can resume. The PMAY initiative is a flagship program designed to ensure housing for all, and any disruption impacts the government’s commitment to this goal.

A para-teacher, Jamaluddin Ansari, sustained severe injuries after being shot by assailants near his home in Naudiha village, Chhatarpur police station area, Palamu. He was initially treated at MMC Hospital before being referred to Ranchi for advanced medical care. His family opted to admit him to a private hospital, Medanta, in Ranchi on Thursday, rather than the government-run RIMS. The projectile remains lodged in the teacher’s lungs, and as of Thursday morning, an operation was underway to remove it. Authorities are investigating a land dispute as the potential motive behind the attack. Ansari had reportedly informed the police about the ongoing disagreement concerning land transactions prior to the incident. In response, police have taken some individuals into custody for questioning as they work to piece together the events. Ansari was shot on Wednesday night while returning home from closing his grocery store. He was ambushed by two individuals near a concrete structure close to his residence, sustaining wounds to his right arm and abdomen. Initial treatment was provided at the Chhatarpur Sub-divisional Hospital, followed by a brief period at MMC Hospital, from where he was referred to Ranchi due to his critical condition. His daughter, who was present outside their home drinking tea at the time of the shooting, witnessed the assailants firing but could not identify them.

A shocking double murder has come to light in Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh on the day of Vijaya Dashami. Two members of the same family were killed in the Ghargoda police station area, in the village of Raykera. The deceased were the mother-in-law and her son-in-law. Their bodies were found inside the house, while a woman from the family was seriously injured. Police have launched an investigation at the scene.

The deceased have been identified as Sukmet Sidar (80 years old) and her son-in-law, Laxman Sidar (60 years old). It is suspected that both were murdered by strangulation. Sukmet’s daughter was found seriously injured and was immediately admitted to Tingni Hospital for treatment. Doctors have described her condition as critical.

Upon receiving the information, the Ghargoda police station and the forensic team reached the spot. Based on the evidence found in the house and the condition of the scene, the police have considered the possibility of murder. Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident occurred late Thursday night. Currently, the police have taken Laxman Sidar’s son and a neighbor from the village into custody on suspicion and have begun questioning them.

According to police sources, a land compensation dispute may be the main reason behind this double murder. Recently, the elderly woman, Sukmet Sidar, received compensation from NTPC for land acquisition. It is reported that there was an ongoing dispute in the family over this amount. Police suspect that the murder was carried out due to this dispute.

According to information, the deceased, Laxman Sidar, had been living in his in-law’s house, Sukmet Sidar’s house, since his marriage. He has one son and two daughters. There had been a tense situation within the family for a long time regarding money and property. Villagers say that this dispute deepened after the compensation amount was received.

Police officers say that the reason for the murder will become clearer after the post-mortem report is received. No one has been formally arrested in the case yet, but three members of the family have been taken into custody and are being continuously questioned.
