In a bold move to rescue Hyderabad’s faltering metro dream, BJP leader and Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy has written to CM A Revanth Reddy, demanding urgent acceleration of land acquisition for the city’s metro extensions. The letter, dispatched amid growing commuter frustration, underscores the critical impasse threatening Phase-II expansions.

Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) reports that over 200 acres of land remain unacquired across key stretches, leading to stalled tenders and ballooning expenses. Routes vital for IT hubs like HITEC City and financial districts are particularly affected, with construction crews idle and deadlines slipping month after month.

Reddy, representing Secunderabad in Parliament, lambasted bureaucratic red tape and political indecision. He advocated for a war-room approach: appointing special acquisition officers, leveraging digital land records for quicker surveys, and offering premium compensation to expedite voluntary handovers. ‘Central funding is ready; state machinery must match the pace,’ he asserted.

The appeal resonates deeply in a city where metro ridership has surged 25% year-on-year, yet capacity strains under explosive urban growth. Experts estimate that resolving acquisition issues could shave years off the project timeline, unlocking 15,000 crore rupees in economic activity.

With opposition voices amplifying the call, Revanth Reddy faces mounting pressure to prioritize this infrastructure cornerstone. Success here could cement his legacy as a decisive leader; inaction risks painting his government as development-delaying. Hyderabad’s commuters await concrete steps that turn political rhetoric into rail reality.

In a direct confrontation, TMC’s Chandrima Bhattacharya cornered BJP leader Sukanta Majumdar regarding the departure of Tata Motors from Singur. Bhattacharya demanded to know the real reasons behind the exit before Majumdar could critique the current administration. The Singur land dispute remains a sensitive topic in Bengal, representing a massive shift in power from the Left Front to the TMC. By raising this issue, Bhattacharya highlighted the BJP’s inconsistent stance on historical land acquisitions, while Majumdar attempted to pivot the conversation toward recent investment statistics in the state.

A prominent tribal and indigenous rights organization has voiced strong dissatisfaction with the Jharkhand government’s prolonged delay in implementing the PESA (Panchayats Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act. Central Vice President…

A prominent tribal and indigenous rights organization has voiced strong dissatisfaction with the Jharkhand government’s prolonged delay in implementing the PESA (Panchayats Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act. Central Vice President of the Adivasi-Mulvasi Janadhikar Manch, Vijay Shankar Nayak, emphasized that PESA is more than just a legal document; it is the bedrock of the existence, identity, and self-governance of Jharkhand’s society. He argued that the government’s silence and ambiguous stance directly undermine the traditional, Gram Sabha-based authority of the people. Nayak questioned whose pressure the government is operating under, stating the public deserves to know. He highlighted that areas with significant mining and land acquisition activities would be most affected by PESA’s implementation, fueling deep societal apprehension that the government might be succumbing to corporate mining interests. The organization is demanding clarity on why concrete steps are not being taken regarding PESA. Currently, Gram Sabhas lack essential rights and empowerment. Nayak pointed out that despite repeated government statements, no notification has been issued to implement PESA, nor is there any clear policy on empowering Gram Sabhas or defining the role of grassroots Panchayats, leaving the people of Jharkhand confused. He suggested this slow process appears to be an attempt to stall a constitutional right rather than empower village councils. The delay, he warned, will exacerbate the crisis of existence for Jharkhand’s society. Without PESA, land will be seized, minerals will be exploited, and the indigenous communities will be further marginalized. He cautioned that continued governmental inaction will lead to increased displacement, weakened traditional governance, and intensified exploitation of mineral resources in the coming years, sending a stark ‘now or never’ message. As the government’s second term nears its first anniversary, Nayak stressed that this is a critical juncture symbolizing the aspirations of Jharkhand’s people. He urged the government to declare a clear timeline for PESA’s implementation, ideally before or immediately after November 28, 2025, if it truly stands with the people. The organization is considering launching a statewide public campaign if the government maintains its silence, as the public is no longer willing to wait.

Tribal and Indigenous Rights Forum expresses strong displeasure over the Jharkhand government’s persistent delays in implementing the PESA Act. Vijay Shankar Nayak, Central Vice President of the forum, emphasized that PESA is more than just a legal document; it’s fundamental to the existence, identity, and self-governance of Jharkhandi society. The government’s silence and ambiguous stance directly undermine the traditional village assembly-based power of the people. Nayak questioned whose pressure the government is succumbing to, stating the public wants answers. He highlighted that regions with accelerated mining and land acquisition processes would be most affected by PESA’s implementation, fueling societal fears of corporate influence on government decisions regarding the law. The government must clarify the reasons for its inaction.

Currently, village assemblies lack proper authority. Despite repeated assurances, the state government has yet to issue a notification for PESA’s implementation. There’s a lack of clarity on rules for empowering village assemblies and the ground-level role of panchayats, leaving the people of Jharkhand confused. This slow process appears to be an attempt to stall a constitutional right rather than empower local governance. Nayak warned that without PESA, the existential crisis for Jharkhandi society will deepen, leading to land alienation, resource depletion, increased marginalization, widespread displacement, weakened traditional governance, and intensified exploitation of mineral resources. He urged the government to act now, stating ‘now or never.’ As the government nears the end of its first year in its second term, this period is crucial and symbolic of Jharkhandi aspirations. Nayak called for a clear implementation date for PESA, either before or immediately after November 28, 2025. He warned that if the government maintains its silence, tribal organizations will consider launching a statewide public campaign, as the people are no longer willing to wait.

In a Jharkhand High Court hearing concerning land acquisition and compensation, Judge Manoj Kumar, the Project Director (National Highway), received a stern reprimand. The judge questioned the Project Director about his objections to the state-determined compensation amounts, asking, “Who are you to object to the compensation amount decided by the state? Do you want a commission? How much commission have you taken so far?” The video of the judge’s scolding is rapidly circulating and has become a topic of discussion in the state.

During the hearing related to land compensation, the judge appeared visibly displeased. He sharply asked Project Director Manoj Kumar, “Does a single law apply throughout India, or is there a different law in Jharkhand? This is the public’s money. It cannot be wasted like this. Who are you? You have made a mockery of the process.”

A senior IAS officer, Manoj Kumar, faced a stern rebuke from a Jharkhand High Court judge regarding a case involving land acquisition and compensation. During the hearing, the judge questioned the IAS officer’s involvement, asking, “Who are you to object to the compensation amount set by the state? How much commission have you taken so far?” A video of the judge reprimanding the IAS officer has gone viral and has become a topic of discussion among other officials in the state. The judge expressed considerable displeasure during the hearing concerning land compensation. The IAS officer, Manoj Kumar, was sharply questioned about whether there was a separate law in Jharkhand, unlike the rest of India. The judge emphasized that the funds belonged to the public and could not be wasted in such a manner, further adding, “You have made a mockery of the process.” The judge also warned Manoj Kumar of potential obstruction of the entire process and accused him of seeking a commission, even threatening to file an FIR against him. The judge also questioned the officer’s tenure, stating, “How many days have you been in service? You want a commission in Jharkhand?” The judge demanded that the officer either comply or face an FIR. Seeing the judge’s anger, the officer immediately apologized. The judge advised Manoj Kumar to stick to his jurisdiction and not interfere in matters that did not concern him, saying, “You don’t need to jump in like a monkey in a brothers’ dispute.” The judge also inquired about the assets the IAS officer had accumulated, vowing to investigate. The judge also mentioned that this was a unique case in the country, and questioned if it was done solely for commission, asking “You want a commission in Jharkhand?” The judge gave the officer a week’s time and warned of further action if court orders were not followed, telling him to forget about seeking commissions.

Farmers took to the streets in Patna, Bihar, on Monday to protest alleged irregularities in various development projects. They claimed the government was acquiring their land at unfairly low prices…

Farmers took to the streets in Patna, Bihar, on Monday to protest alleged irregularities in various development projects. They claimed the government was acquiring their land at unfairly low prices under the guise of development, despite provisions for four times the compensation as per the Land Acquisition Act of 2013. The protestors, led by Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Sudhakar Singh from Buxar, demonstrated and encircled Patna. They alleged that the government was offering compensation based on 2010 rates, leading to significant financial losses. The protest, organized by the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha, began at Buddha Park in Patna and was led by Sudhakar Singh, Dinesh Singh, and Ashok Prasad Singh. The farmers vowed to continue their agitation until their demands were met. They also opposed the construction of NH-319A, which they want rerouted along the Karmnasha River as a marine drive, instead of displacing Banarpur village in Chausa block, Buxar. Furthermore, farmers expressed strong resentment over the planned acquisition of fertile land in Gangapur Narouli, Bakhtiyarpur block, Patna district, for industrial purposes. They also presented a 15-point list of demands to the government.

Bihar Pradesh Congress President Rajesh Ram stated that the Congress’s voter rights campaign, which began on August 17, had exposed the BJP’s lies. He claimed that the public’s enthusiasm in every district showed that they were tired of the BJP’s vote-stealing tactics and considered Congress as the real alternative. Ram accused the BJP of attempting to undermine democracy through voter list manipulations, but the public had shown their commitment to democracy. He added that the affection shown for Rahul Gandhi was a clear message to the BJP that they wouldn’t gain power through deceit. He claimed that the BJP was now afraid of ‘ghost voters’ and that the BJP’s rallies were seeing empty chairs. Meanwhile, Congress rallies were seeing huge crowds, which showed that Bihar was rediscovering its lost identity.

CPM-ML General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya raised serious questions regarding the voter list revision. He mentioned that the Supreme Court had also raised questions about the involvement of political parties’ BLOs. Bhattacharya asserted that CPM-ML was the only party that had taken a serious initiative in this matter. He said that the party had filed 10 objections. He said that the deadline for the voter list revision was too short. He also noted that there were still millions of migrant workers whose documents were not submitted and that an extension of the deadline was necessary, as approximately 1.5 million people still needed to be added to the list.

NDA held worker conferences in 14 assembly constituencies in Bihar on Monday. BJP State President Dr. Dilip Jaiswal addressed the workers in Ujiarpur, while Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary addressed workers in Katoria and Vijay Sinha addressed workers in Bochaha. Nityanand Rai addressed in Chanpatia, MP Sanjay Jaiswal in Amanour, Minister Mangal Pandey in Jamui, and Union Minister Giriraj Singh addressed workers in Banmankhi. Dr. Jaiswal stated that the NDA had the right policies, leaders, and the intention to develop Bihar. He highlighted the development that had taken place in Bihar since 2005 under Nitish Kumar’s leadership.

Dr. Santosh Suman, the National President of the Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) and Minister of Small Water Resources, stated that Rahul Gandhi, under whose leadership the Congress had lost 90 elections, would fail in Bihar as well. He claimed that creating headlines through fake narratives couldn’t win the public’s trust. He added that Rahul Gandhi’s political career spanning two decades had not gained the public’s trust. He also highlighted that the Congress and RJD had governed Bihar for 40 and 15 years respectively and stated that it was the worst phase for the state.

Neeraj Kumar, the JDU MLC and party’s chief spokesperson, sharply criticized the Leader of Opposition, Tejashwi Yadav, accusing the Lalu family of consistently undermining the legacy of Jananayak Karpoori Thakur. He stated that Congress and RJD were making a mockery of the Jananayak title. He claimed that the title of Jananayak belonged solely to Karpoori Thakur, whose simple life, honesty, and struggle could never be forgotten by the people of Bihar. He added that those who have corruption charges against them can never be Jananayak.

JDU National General Secretary Manish Verma, during his visit to Madhubani, targeted Lalu-Rabri and Prashant Kishore. He was speaking at the NDA worker conference held in Laukaha. He said that Nitish Kumar had demanded that Atal Bihari Vajpayee grant Maithili the status of a constitutional language. He added that an NDA wave was sweeping the entire state. He described Prashant Kishore as someone who pretends to be knowledgeable by using Gandhi’s poster, and challenges everyone all day. He said that the five parties in the NDA were contesting the elections together, which would lead to the defeat of the opposition.

JDU state president Umesh Singh Kushwaha, while addressing the NDA worker conference in Narkatia assembly, encouraged the workers and reiterated Nitish Kumar’s resolve to secure 225 seats in 2025. Kushwaha claimed that Nitish Kumar had transformed Bihar in the last 20 years, bringing unprecedented progress in roads, electricity, education, health, employment, and women empowerment. He also described the Mahagathbandhan as an alliance of mega-scamsters, while also stating that the Modi-Nitish duo was dedicated to the public interest, whereas the politics of Rahul and Tejashwi was limited to family interests.

JDU state spokesperson Dr. Nihora Prasad Yadav launched a scathing attack on Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav, stating that just as Lalu Prasad Yadav had disrespected Jananayak Karpoori Thakur during his lifetime, his son Tejashwi Yadav was now following the same path. He stated that Karpoori Thakur was an example of struggle, honesty, and clean politics, and that he had always been the voice of the poor, the backward, and the marginalized. He accused Tejashwi Yadav and Rahul Gandhi of exploiting Karpoori Thakur’s name for political gain.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai conducted a video conference from the Mahanadi Bhawan Ministry in Nava Raipur, reviewing the implementation of government schemes with all district collectors. During the meeting, the Chief Minister thoroughly reviewed the ground realities of development schemes in all districts of the state and gave several essential instructions to the officials.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai took detailed information on the status of cases related to name transfers, undisputed and disputed divisions, record correction, error rectification, land acquisition, demarcation, and diversion, conducting a district-wise review.

He clearly stated that repeatedly calling people for hearings not only causes financial loss to the public but also wastes their time and labor, leading to a decline in public trust in the government system. He urged officials to reduce the number of hearings and ensure the timely resolution of cases.

Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Subodh Kumar Singh, directed that all revenue cases be recorded in e-Courts to facilitate easy monitoring and tracking. He also emphasized paying special attention to record correction and error rectification. Instructions were given to conduct a special campaign at the tehsil level through patwaris to correct records.

Focusing on national highway projects, the Chief Minister stressed the need for the land acquisition process to ensure the rapid and seamless progress of national highways and Bharatmala projects. He directed the collectors to expedite the settlement of pending land acquisition and compensation distribution cases.

Instructions were given to prioritize the completion of land acquisition and compensation distribution works for projects like roads, railways, and mobile towers in the Bastar division, specifically in Narayanpur, Dantewada, Sukma, and Bijapur.

Chief Minister Sai emphasized that the state government is now giving top priority to transparency and accountability in revenue administration. A responsible governance system can only be built when justice is delivered to the public on time. Therefore, every officer must ensure that cases are resolved without delay and in a just manner.

The Chief Minister also directed to expedite the process of farmer registration, stating that registration of all eligible farmers should be completed soon. He asked the officials to take the digital crop survey seriously and complete it on time.

To make the 25th anniversary of the formation of Chhattisgarh memorable, the Silver Jubilee celebrations began on August 15, which will last for 25 weeks. Chief Minister Sai directed the collectors of all districts to organize events in their respective areas and make the Silver Jubilee a festival of public participation. Details of the programs should be uploaded on the portal and publicity should be accelerated.

Chief Minister Sai instructed officials that the Seva Pakhwada (Service Fortnight) will be celebrated in the state from September 17 to October 2, which will be a part of the Chhattisgarh Silver Jubilee. During this time, public service programs like blood donation camps, health camps, and revenue camps will be organized. The Chief Minister said that this opportunity should be linked to every citizen of the state to strengthen public relations.

The review meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Amitabh Jain, Secretaries to the Chief Minister Rahul Bhagat, P. Dayanand, Finance Secretary Mukesh Bansal, PCCF Sunil Mishra, Secretary of Public Works Department Kamalpreet Singh, Secretary of Revenue Department Reena Babasaheb Kangale, Managing Director of the Culture Department Vivek Acharya, along with Secretaries, Commissioners, and Directors of other departments.
