  • Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davis address Chris Noth sexual assault allegations

    By ANI

WASHINGTON: ‘Sex and the City’ actors, Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis, have broken their silence about the sexual assault allegations against their co-star Chris Noth.

On Tuesday, Parker, Nixon and Davis shared matching statements on their Instagram Stories addressing the allegations against Noth.

Parker wrote, “We are deeply saddened to hear the allegations against Chris Noth. We support the women who have come forward and shared their painful experiences. We know it must be a very difficult thing to do and we commend them for it.”

Nixon and Davis also shared the same statement on their IG Stories.

Parker, Nixon and Davis are the first stars of ‘Sex and the City’ spinoff ‘And Just Like That’ to address the allegations, aside from Noth, who has denied the claims.

The stars spoke out four days after The Hollywood Reporter published the accounts of two women, who used pseudonyms while opening up about the alleged sexual assaults they say took place in 2004 and 2015, respectively.

According to the outlet, the two women separately reached out to them and do not know each other.

Actor Zoe Lister-Jones also accused Noth of being “consistently sexually inappropriate with a fellow female promoter” and alleged he was “drunk on set” when they guest-starred on ‘Law & Order’. The actor shared her statement on her Instagram account a few days back.

Noth has denied all the allegations levelled against him. He said in a statement, “The accusations against me made by individuals I met years, even decades, ago are categorically false. These stories could’ve been from 30 years ago or 30 days ago–no always means no–that is a line I did not cross. The encounters were consensual. It’s difficult not to question the timing of these stories coming out.”

“I don’t know for certain why they are surfacing now, but I do know this: I did not assault these women,” he added.

Last Friday, a third woman came forward with sexual assault allegations against Noth. In a Daily Beast report, a woman who wished to remain anonymous but used the pseudonym, Ava, told the outlet that when she was 18, Noth had sexually assaulted her while she was working at a New York City restaurant in 2010.

Noth also denied the third woman’s account in a statement. “The story is a complete fabrication, and the alleged accounts detailed throughout read like a piece of bad fiction,” a rep for Noth said.

“As Chris stated yesterday, he has and would never cross that line,” the rep added.

As per People magazine, Noth has since been dropped from the A3 Artists Agency.

He has also been dropped from the CBS drama ‘The Equalizer’. Noth will no longer be filming episodes of ‘The Equalizer’, however, he will be seen in one upcoming episode that has already been filmed, as well as future repeats of episodes that have already aired.

  • ‘Sex and the City’ author Candace Bushnell says TV adaptation was ‘not very feminist’

NEW YORK: Candace Bushnell, whose novel “Sex and the City” inspired the popular HBO series, says the show was meant to be for “entertainment” and not serve as a guide for women to live by.

The writer also addressed a well-known but less discussed fact that the small screen adaptation was “not very feminist at the end”.

“We never talk about this, but that’s something that women need to think about: You can do a lot less…when you have to rely on a man. The TV show and the message were not very feminist at the end. But that’s TV. That’s entertainment. That’s why people should not base their lives on a TV show,” Bushnell told New York Post in an interview.

“Sex and the City”, created by Darren Star, was based on a novel of the same name by Bushnell and ran from 1998 to 2004 on HBO.

The film adaptations were released in theatres in 2008 and 2010, respectively.

The book itself started as a confessional dating column that ran in the New York Observer from 1994 to 1996.

Bushnell also dispelled the glorified idea of ‘Mr Big’ — the now-famous archetype of the elusive, attractive and successful metropolitan man, played by Chris Noth in the franchise, who is later shown married to column writer and one of the four protagonists Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker).

“The reality is, finding a guy is maybe not your best economic choice in the long term. Men can be very dangerous to women in a lot of different ways,” the author said.

Now, HBO is bringing back cast members Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis from the original series for a new 10-episode revival series of “Sex and the City” which will follow the life and friendship of the trio in their 50s.

Kim Cattrall, who famously played Samantha Jones in the original “Sex and the City” series and the two film adaptations, is not returning for the new show.

Bushnell defended Cattrall’s decision to pass.

“I absolutely love Kim. But it seems she wants to do other things, and she doesn’t feel like doing the show. Maybe she doesn’t want to be that character anymore,” she added.

The author said though she doesn’t “know anything about what the new show’s going to be about”, she is looking forward to it.

“HBO’s going to make money on it. They’re going to exploit it as much as they can. They rebooted ‘Gossip Girl’. If they didn’t reboot ‘Sex and the City’, it would be really strange.”

Bushnell is currently preparing to star in her one-woman, off-Broadway show, “Is There Still Sex in the City?”, based on her latest book.

  • ‘Sex and the City’ revival adds Sarita Choudhury, Nicole Ari Parker to cast

LOS ANGELES: “After Yang” actor Sarita Choudhury, Nicole Ari Parker of “Empire” fame, and Karen Pittman, best known for “The Morning Show”, have signed on to star in HBO Max’s “Sex and the City revival”.

Titled “And Just Like That”, the series will see franchise leads Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis reprise their characters, Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbs, and Charlotte York from the popular romance comedy-drama series that aired on HBO in 1998.

The revival will see Parker, Nixon and Davis begin a new journey in life as three friends who are now in their 50s.

According to Deadline, Choudhury stars as single, self-made powerhouse Manhattan real estate broker, Seema Patel.

Parker will play Lisa Todd Wexley, a Park Avenue mother of three and documentarian.

Pittman will be seen in the role of Dr Nya Wallace, a brilliant Columbia Law professor.

“Everyone at ‘And Just Like That…’ is thrilled to have these amazing and vibrant actors join the ‘Sex and the City’ family.

Each of them will add their unique spark and big heart to these new characters and the stories we are about to tell,” executive producer Michael Patrick King said.

Parker, Davis and Nixon are also attached to executive produce the 10-episode series that started production in New York last week.

Other original cast members Chris Noth, Mario Cantone, David Eigenberg, Willie Garson, and Evan Handler will also return for the revival drama.

Sara Ramirez, known for “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Madam Secretary”, is a new addition to “And Just Like That”.

Kim Cattrall, who played one of the four leads Samantha Jones in “Sex and the City” and its two follow-up movies, is not part of the upcoming series.

Based on a novel of the same name by Candace Bushnell, the original “Sex and the City” series was created by Darren Star, also known for the cult classic series “Beverly Hills, 90210”, “Younger” and “Emily in Paris”.
