In Koderma, the Jain community of Jhumri Tilaiya enthusiastically participated in the global observance of World Bhaktamar Day. This significant event, held on October 9th, saw devotees reciting the powerful Bhaktamar Stotra in unison at the Digambar Jain Temple. The auspicious recitation commenced precisely at 9:09:09 AM, uniting the community in a spiritual endeavor. This global initiative, organized by the Sakal Digambar Jain Samaj of India, aims to foster peace and well-being worldwide. The Bhaktamar Stotra, a revered hymn in Jainism, is believed to possess immense spiritual power capable of dispelling negativity and promoting harmony. The event’s success was bolstered by the spiritual guidance and blessings of Jain Saint Acharya 108 Pranam Sagar Ji Mahamuniraj, who virtually connected with participants from Aurangabad, Maharashtra, to synchronize the chanting. This day is now recognized as World Bhaktamar Day, with efforts underway to feature this profound recitation in world records. The ceremony concluded with an evening Aarti and the recitation of Namokar Chalisa within the temple premises, reinforcing the spiritual fervor of the day.

A 42-year-old soldier, Mansoor Alam, employed as a driver in the police line, died by suicide after consuming sulfas. Alam was under stress due to his recent suspension from duty. Before his death, Alam released a video where he held two station in-charges responsible for his death, accusing them of fabricating charges that led to his suspension.

Alam, residing in the police line barracks, informed his colleagues about ingesting poison (sulfas). Upon receiving the news, his fellow soldiers rushed to his aid and transported him to Sadar Hospital Koderma in a critical condition. Following initial treatment, doctors referred him to RIMS in Ranchi due to the severity of his condition. Unfortunately, Alam passed away during treatment.

The deceased soldier’s wife stated that Alam had been under significant stress for some time. He had been suspended for the past three months and had faced suspension twice within four months. Before taking his life, Alam released a video where he accused Jaynagar police station in-charge Bablu Singh and Domchanch police station in-charge Om Prakash Yadav of falsely accusing him, leading to his suspension. In the video, the soldier explicitly stated that these two officers would be responsible for his death.

The Navratri festival is being celebrated with great enthusiasm everywhere, but the Durga Puja of Gumo, in the Koderma district of Jharkhand, is special in many ways. A 600-year-old tradition is still followed here. During the entire Navratri, more than 3000 goats are sacrificed. There is also a practice of offering sacrifices for all nine days of Durga Puja, from the establishment of the Kalash to Navami. A special recitation is also performed on Ashtami of Durga using a handwritten book of mantras from the ancestors. This book is only opened during the puja. After that, it is kept safe.

The main priest of the temple, Dashrath Pandey, says that in 1400 AD, two brothers, Ratan Sai and Mardan Sai, ruled Gumo. They would install the idol of Maa Durga and worship her during Navratri, but due to the growing influence of the Mughals, they had to leave their रियासत. Before leaving the रियासत, they entrusted the responsibility of the puja and the temple to their family priests, Jiyaram Pandey, Ramsevak Pandey, and Abhay Ram Pandey families.

In the age of social media, the pursuit of viral fame has led to increasingly risky behavior.
