She posed a question to ChatGPT about the Bhagavad Geeta, asking what public service is. She said, according to ChatGPT, public service serves the community by benefiting it, promoting volunteerism, improving others’ lives, and creating a better world.

When asked if there can be good public service, ChatGPT, representing Lord Krishna, responded that the Bhagavad Geetha teaches that public service is an important aspect of spiritual growth. Regarding the reasons why people deviate from the path of true public service, Lord Krishna, through ChatGPT, explained that it is because they are motivated by their own selfish desires and lack attachments, she said.

Bedi said the Bhagavad Geetha teaches one to practice yoga, meditation, and self-reflection; practices which help one cultivate peace. She further spoke about what constitutes good governance, stating that it must be accountable, transparent, responsive, equitable, efficient, follow the rule of law, and be participatory, as outlined by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia.

She added that she wanted to include an African proverb in her presentation, “If the dog is not barking when the thief is stealing, it means both are friends.” Bedi discussed best practices for public officials and informed the audience that any complaints received in Puducherry were digitally tracked through a redressal system, regardless of their size.

The officials made use of various social media platforms, phone and chat options to serve the public and maintain transparency. To further improve their services, they introduced an app called “My Government,” which enabled them to address all grievances from top to bottom. She also shared how they managed to overcome financial constraints and still provide quality public services.

Despite some contractors not receiving orders from the Public Works Department due to concerns over bill payment, they found a solution by bringing in the machinery and contractors and paying them directly. Junior engineers were assigned to oversee irrigation canal cleaning, which resulted in millions of rupees being spent by the PWD, she remarked. “During my tenure in Pondicherry, we have created a WhatsApp group in which top bureaucrats have participated and done positive things for the people’s welfare,” she said.

She emphasised the importance of responsible spending, mentioning that funds should be allocated according to the budget’s outlined schemes. In Pondicherry, they implemented the Direct Bank Transfer system, which helped them save significant amounts of money. Bedi stressed the importance of field visits, suggesting that top officials from all departments should dedicate at least one hour to visiting the field.

    Express News Service

“I have written only what I could substantiate and prove”, said Former Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi  who has captured her “precious memories of Puducherry ”as the administer of the territory between 2016 and 2021 in her  book , “Fearless Governance,” which was released recently .

“I did not want precious memories to die with me”, said Bedi said in an open letter to people of Puducherry explaining the purpose of writing the book.

So many right things happened and thousands of several conscientious men, women and youth were associated with the changes she was making for a Prosperous Puducherry. “They needed to be remembered.  The youth and children of Puducherry, who too were integral grow up to read this history”, she said.

Thousands visited Raj Nivas as children and visitors or invitees and shared the joy of togetherness, she said . This book  will give them the sense of ownership of their most beautiful part of India and to remain vigilant and responsible for its prosperity, said Bedi.

Another reason for writing the book is  to recall all the collaborative measures  that she took,  and continued with them , such as water-rich Puducherry, Mission Green Puducherry, Swatchh Puducherry and more.  “”I know you all know much more about the region than I knew. I have written in this book  only what I could substantiate and prove. Not heard—- Only what I saw and what we did with it. I have not written anything in this which I cannot stand by evidence of any form”, she said .

This book is a work of love, respect, and fondness for the people of Puducherry. , she said adding that the Tamil version of the book  will follow soon.

Stating that the book is available in Puducherry , she wished everyone  a Prosperous Puducherry  and visit Puducherry when the Tamil version  is released.

It may be recalled that her tenure in Puducherry was marked by turf war with the then Chief minister  VNarayanasamy with both being logger heads with each other .

  • Kiran Bedi vows to desilt entire irrigation channel network

While V Narayanasamy, the Chief Minister of Puducherry is campaigning against her day in and day out alleging that Kiran Bedi, the Lieutenant Governor is not cooperating with the Government in implementing welfare measures, the undeterred Bedi is going around the Union Territory making sure that the infrastructure works are implemented and the entire region is maintained neat and clean.

A day after Narayanasamy went public over Bedi’s refusal to increase the age limit to 24 of police constables under clause 3 of the Police Recruitment Rules, the Lieutenant Governor launched a massive programme with the assistance of a corporate group to desilt the entire irrigation channels in Puducherry.

The project named “Mission Puducherry Water Rich” will ensure that the cleaning and desilting of all the 23 irrigation channels would be implemented with the active cooperation of donors.

“This will save the Government crores of rupees while the donors will be honoured with Swachchhta Hi Sewa Awards on this year’s Diwali Eve,” said a release from Bedi’s office.

Desilting the 11.3 km long Sellangal Feeder Canal at a cost of Rs 7 lakh would revitalize six villages and 900 acres of farm lands would get irrigation potential. This will also improve the ground water table for agriculture sector as well as the industrial hub.

The Lt Governor launched the desilting works on Thursday by performing the traditional Bhumi Puja and asked the donors to make sure that the desilting works be completed before the commencement of the monsoon. She also asked the engineering authorities of Tamil Nadu Government who were present during the function to extend cooperation to their counterparts in the union territory for the speedy completion of the works
