  • Rahul Gandhi continues to attack Centre on agri legislations, claims ryots not aware of details

    By PTI
KALPETTA: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday continued to attack the Centre over the three farm laws and claimed most farmers were not aware of details of the bills and if they did, there would have been an agitation throughout the country.

Referring to the contentious central farm laws, he said it was the “latest deadly assault” on the farmers.

A day after violence during the farmers’ tractor rally in Delhi, Gandhi had appealed to the Narendra Modi government on Wednesday to repeal, what he claimed were, “anti-agriculture” laws.

“Most of the farmers are not aware of the details of the farm bills. Because if they did, there would have been an agitation throughout the country,” he said, addressing a UDF convention on Thursday at Kalpetta in Wayanad, his Lok Sabha constituency, on the second day of his two-day visit to poll- bound Kerala.

He also alleged that while the BJP government at the Centre was “aggressively” using its central agencies-CBI and the Enforcement Directorate (ED)-against opposition party ruled governments, there was no such pressure on left ruled Kerala where the assembly polls are only months away.

“In every opposition party ruled states, CBI and ED are used aggressively by the BJP. There is no such thing in Kerala.

There is no such pressure on the Kerala government. CBI and ED are very relaxed on the cases here,” Gandhi said.

“You go through newspaper reports. Does the BJP attack the Congress more or the CPI(M)? Does the Prime Minister attack the Chief Minister of Kerala or does he attack the leadershipof the Congress party?” he asked, apparently suggesting that the saffron party was going soft on the left front in the southern state.

Continuing to target the Centre over the farm laws,Gandhi alleged the basic idea was to hand over the agricultural system of the country to three or four businessmen.

“Five to 10 people are “stealing” every single farmer’s produce.

They are stealing from every single worker, they are stealing from every single worker in the mandis and stealing from every truck driver who takes wheat from the mandis and the Prime Minister of India is organising the robbery,” he alleged.

“This is not just a crime against farmers, but crime against India,” Gandhi said.

Gandhi also said if the Congress-led UDF comes to power in Kerala, a medical college, along pending demand of his Wayanad constituency, would become a reality.

“The state government is going slow on this demand,” he claimed.

Later after inaugurating a spice kit distribution to SC farmers at Ambalavayal, organised by RARS, Kerala agriculture university, Gandhi said his endeavour was to make Wayanad synonymouswith spices and he had written to the Centre to set up a spice park in the district.

  • Bird flu: States on alert; Haryana reports over 4 lakh poultry deaths in 10 days, Kerala culls chickens, ducks

    By PTI
NEW DELHI: Several states on Tuesday sounded an alert to contain the H5N8 strain of bird flu and sent samples for testing while Kerala began culling of chickens and ducks.

Karnataka and Tamil Nadu stepped up surveillance and formed guidelines following the outbreak of the viral infection in neighbouring Kerala, where around 1,700 ducks have died due to the flu.

In Haryana, over four lakh poultry birds have died at farms in Panchkula district in the past 10 days, officials said, adding a team from Jalandhar’s Regional Disease Diagnosis Laboratory has collected samples.

There are no confirmed reports of avian influenza till now, a RDDL spokesperson said.

In Madhya Pradesh, officials said that 155 dead crows in Indore have been found with the H5N8 strain since the pathogen was first detected in the city a week back, while in Rajasthan, after Jhalwar, birds in Kota and Baran were found with the infection.

However, no cases have been reported yet in Maharashtra, which shares borders with Madhya Pradesh.

Officials in Himachal Pradesh surveyed the area around the Pong Dam Lake sanctuary in Kangra district to check the spread of the flu to domestic poultry birds, a day after samples of dead migratory birds there tested positive for H5N8.

Till now, 2,700 migratory birds, mostly bar-headed geese, have been found dead in the lake area and samples have been sent for testing, state animal husbandry officials said.

The operation to cull birds in and around a one-km radius of the affected areas in Alappuzha and Kottayam in Kerala was launched a day after results of samples tested at the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases in Bhopal confirmed the outbreak of the bird flu in the two districts.

Rapid response teams, set up by the administration, began culling ducks, hens and other domestic birds as per guidelines, officials said.

Culling of birds in four panchayats of Nedumudi, Thakazhy, Pallippad and Karuvatta in Kuttanad region, where the outbreak has been reported, is expected to be completed by Wednesday evening, Alappuzha district authorities said.

In Karuvatta panchayat alone, around 12,000 birds will be culled, an official said.

In the affected areas of Neendoor panchayat in Kottayam district, the rapid response teams have culled some 3,000 birds so far, authorities said.

On a farm in Neendoor, around 1,700 ducks had died due to the viral infection.

Officials have said around 40,000 domestic birds, including 34,000 in the Kuttanad region alone, will be culled to check the spread of the H5N8 virus.

Though the situation has been brought under control, authorities have sounded a high alert in the districts, considering the potential of the virus to infect humans.

The Alappuzha district collector has banned the use and trade of meat, eggs and waste of domestic birds, including ducks and chicken, in Kuttanad and Karthikappalli Taluks, officials said.

In Indore, the presence of bird flu was first detected on December 29, when about 50 crows were found dead on the Daly College campus of the Residency area, and tests run on two of the carcasses confirmed the presence of the pathogen.

Madhya Pradesh veterinary department deputy director Pramod Sharma said 155 crows were detected with the H5N8 virus in the Residency area in the last eight days.

The deadly avian influenza has not been found in any other bird species apart from crows in Indore so far, he said.

“Samples from 120 live hens and roosters from the area and 30 migratory birds from Sirpur Lake have been sent to a laboratory in Bhopal to check for bird flu. The reports are awaited,” Sharma said.

Survey is being carried out in the Residency area to check people with symptoms like cold, cough and fever, a state health department official said but added that no case of the H5N8 infection has been found in humans.

Jammu and Kashmir sounded an alert and started collecting samples to check the health of winged guests flocking to the Union territory during winters, officials said as neighbouring Himachal Pradesh reported cases of bird flu.

Joint teams of the animal husbandry and wildlife departments on Tuesday visited the Gharana wetland in the outskirts of Jammu and collected 25 bird droppings for testing to ascertain whether any of the birds are infected with avian influenza, officials said.

Following the bird flu outbreak in neighbouring Kerala, Tamil Nadu stepped up surveillance on inter-state borders and announced a contingency plan for the management of possible human cases.

“The avian influenza spreads rapidly, there could be a likelihood of humans getting affected. So, as a precaution, the directorate general of health services has evolved a contingency plan for the management of human cases,” Tamil Nadu health secretary J Radhakrishnan said.

Karnataka health minister K Sudhakar directed officers in border districts to remain vigilant in the view of avian flu outbreak in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.

He said guidelines will be issued to all districts for necessary action.

In Himachal Pradesh, teams have started collecting samples of poultry from an area of 10-km radius from the periphery of the Pong Dam Lake, animal husbandry deputy director Munish Batta said.

“Our priority is to ensure that the infection does not spread from migratory birds to domestic poultry,” he added.

There has so far been no report of any unusual sickness or death among poultry birds, Batta said.

Officials in Rajasthan said samples sent from Kota and Baran have been found positive with H5N8.

State animal husbandry minister Lal Chand Kataria said avian influenza has been found only in Jhalawar, Kota and Baran.

Till Tuesday, 625 birds have died in 16 districts.

Also, 86 samples have been sent for testing, officials said.

  • Jackson saves Kerala from defeat, stops East Bengal on draw

Jackson Singh’s goal in injury time helped Kerala Blasters prevent East Bengal from their first win in the seventh season of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) and held them to a 1–1 draw. East Bengal retained a 1-0 lead in the first half with a goal goal from a Bakrey corner until injury time, but Jackson missed the first win of the season by scoring a goal in injury time to save Kerala from defeat. This is the second draw in East Bengal’s six matches. The team now has two points and has now reached number 10 in the table.

The team has also lost four. Kerala has been drawn for the third time in six matches and is now at number nine with three points. Kerala has got three defeats so far. In the 13th minute, Kerala’s Bakery corner unfortunately gave the ball into his own net. It seemed that Nishu Kumar, playing his 50th match in IASL, also had a hand in this suicide goal, but this corner goal gave East Bengal a 1-0 lead within the first 15 minutes. Six minutes of extra time was added to the injury time and Jackson scored with an assist from Sahal Abdul Samad to equalize Kerala 1–1 and prevent East Bengal from registering their first win of the season.

  • ATK Mohun Bagan wins opener against Kerala Blasters, Roy Krishna scores first goal of ISL 2020

ATK Mohun Bagan got off to a good start in the 2020-21 Indian Super League (ISL) season with a narrow 1-0 win over Kerala Blasters at the GMC Stadium, Bambolim on Friday.

Roy Krishna’s 67th-minute strike was enough for Habas’ team to secure three points in the club’s first-ever ISL match. It was a cagey start as both teams adopted a safety-first approach. Yet, Bagan could have had their noses in front had Krishna not scuffed his shot at the far post after latching on to a corner whipped in by Hernandez early on in the game.

In their new avatar, ATK Mohun Bagan kicked off the seventh season of the Indian Super League on a high, defeating Kerala Blasters by a solitary goal here on Friday. Fijian hitman Roy Krishna, who was ATK’s top goal scorer with 15 goals last season, struck the all important goal after a 67 minute deadlock to give the all important three points for the green-and-maroon brigade.

The Yellow Brigade playing with a heavy defensive lineup of 4-2-3-1 managed to thwart ATKMB throughout the first half but after the hour mark they left a loose ball as the Fijian International pounced on it with a calm and composed finish. All eyes were on the 131-year-old legacy club Mohun Bagan as they were making their ISL debut following their ‘marriage’ with three-time defending champions ATK.

The match had an interesting sub-plot as Kibu Vicuna, who had guided Mohun Bagan to their fifth I-League title last season, sat in the opposite dugout in KBFC jersey, while the most successful ISL coach Antonio Lopez Habas was at the helm of ATKMB. Habas named a predictable 3-5-2 lineup with their star signing Sandesh Jhingan helming the defence in his first outing after a lengthy injury layoff of more than 12 months.

ATKMB had a dominant first half and made some early inroads with Roy Krishna missing an early chance, even as KBFC enjoyed more ball possession in the first 45 minutes.

PakPart Rahul Gandhi and CM of China Parvez K. Vijayan conspiring to defame India Trying to divide the country on casteism and to create separatism. These anti-national acts for votes are inappropriate.

Rahul Gandhi has given ISIS certification in Germany saying that the current Modi government of India is creating unemployment, which is ISIS job giving organization?

They said that the reason for mobs lining was also unemployment. Not only that, according to him, the situation of civil war in India and the cause of the rise of ISIS are unemployed.

Even today in the UK, Rahul Gandhi gave oxygen to these elements, which have flourished in Pakistan by giving similar statements today. He has done with the RSS’s Tulu Brotherhood Organization.

Encouraged by the Pakistan-funded Hurriyat, separatist elements throw stones at the Indian army. At that time, infiltrated terrorists from Pakistan often attack Amarnath pilgrims.

The way Kashmir and ISI flags are being wiped by the said separatist elements in Kashmir, in the same way, the separatist elements are involved in violent action by the assassination of the Congress and other opposition parties in other areas of India.

Today news of attack on Kadiyadis in Malpura of Tonk and Bareilly has been received. It is worth mentioning here that this Malpura region of Rahul Gandhi’s guide Ashok Gehlot is dear. Only Gehlot has been able to get the culprit active at all times. Earlier, violent riots have taken place and anti-India slogans have been floating by blowing the ISI and Pak’s flag.

This incident has happened in Bareilly too today. The people are careful about Rahul Gandhi’s speeches that disrespect India and dissolve the unity of the country and the false rumors of CM Vijayan of Kerala and keep the unity in the country.
