  • British royals join cast of new Bond film for glitzy London premiere

    By Associated Press

LONDON: Britain’s royals joined Daniel Craig, Lea Seydoux and the cast of “No Time to Die” on the red carpet for the new Bond film’s world premiere Tuesday, a glittering event that marked the movie’s release after multiple delays caused by the pandemic.

The film, the 25th in the long-running series and Craig’s last outing as 007, was initially due to be released in April 2020.

Craig, who turned up for the red carpet at the Royal Albert Hall in a pink velvet dinner jacket, told reporters how relieved he was that the film was finally making its way to cinemas.

“A year ago, this was just a dream. It didn’t look like we’d get here. But we have and I’m just happy that we’re here and we can celebrate with everybody,” he said.

Seydoux echoed the sense of relief, saying: “It’s been such a crazy time for all of us. And now to celebrate, you know, with this film, to reunite. And it’s great. I’m really happy.”

Craig, 53, has played the suave secret agent in five movies, beginning with “Casino Royale” in 2006.

Asked how he felt about saying goodbye to the role, he said: “I’m good. I’m really good about it.”

As for who would be his successor, he simply quipped: “Not my problem.”

Prince Charles, his wife Camilla, Prince William and his wife Kate the Duchess of Cambridge made a rare joint appearance at the premiere, and Kate stole the show with a sparkling gold cape dress by designer Jenny Packham.

Actor Rami Malek, who joins the franchise as villain Safin, later met the royals.

He was joined by Lashana Lynch, who plays the first Black female 00 agent Nomi, and Naomie Harris, who returns as Moneypenny.

Health care workers and members of Britain’s armed forces were among those invited to Tuesday’s premiere in thanks for their work during the pandemic.

The film will be released in UK cinemas on September 30.

  • Meghan Markle, Kate Middleton may collaborate for Netflix project

    By ANI

WASHINGTON: Despite rumours of the royal tension, sister-in-laws Duchess of Sussex- Meghan Markle and Duchess of Cambridge- Kate Middleton could soon collaborate on a Netflix project, in which Meghan could highlight Kate’s charity work.

“Meghan and Kate are actually getting along really well and have been in touch more often. Meghan has been talking to her about collaborating on a project for Netflix, a documentary that will spotlight Kate’s charity work and the huge impact she’s made with her philanthropy,” a source revealed to US Weekly.

“Kate is very flattered, and it’s all very positive between them,” the insider added.

However, according to Page Six, sources close to the royal family have denied the report.

Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle have signed a multi-year deal with Netflix last fall, with intentions to develop, “documentaries, docu-series, feature films, scripted shows and children’s programming.”

Reportedly, their first project will centre “on the Invictus Games, which gives sick and injured military personnel and veterans the opportunity to compete in sports.”

The duo will also produce a family drama animated series about a 12-year-old girl’s adventures, tentatively titled “Pearl,” reported Page Six.

For the unversed, the 40-year-old Duchess of Sussex claimed in her bombshell March interview with Oprah Winfrey that the media is to blame for “inventing stories to fuel a faux sisterly feud” between herself and Kate.

On the other hand, Kate’s uncle Gary Goldsmith countered Meghan’s statement by saying, “If anyone can bring peace to the royals, Kate can. Kate is a brilliant arbiter and peacemaker. Every bone in her body is about making friends and doing the best she can … She’s trying to mediate.”

Meghan and Harry have been detangling their lives from the British royal family and are currently residing in California with their two children- Archie and newborn Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.

On a related note, Meghan Markle recently celebrated her 40th birthday and the royal members including Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles, Camilla, Prince William and Kate Middleton took to their official Twitter handles, to share mesmerising pictures of the duchess and sent their best wishes on her big day.

  • Kate Middleton reacts to niece Lilibet Diana’s birth, says ‘can’t wait to meet her’

WASHINGTON: Kate Middleton expressed her excitement to meet her new niece, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s daughter Lilibet ‘Lili’ Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.

As per People magazine, the royal teamed up with First Lady Dr Jill Biden on Friday for a visit to a school, where a reporter asked Kate about the recent arrival of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s daughter.

“I wish her all the very best,” Kate said.

She added, “I can’t wait to meet her because haven’t yet met her. So hopefully that will be soon.”

The reporter followed up by asking Kate if she had video chatted with the baby yet. “No, I haven’t,” she replied.

Kate and Prince William joined fellow members of the royal family in welcoming their new addition over the weekend.

Sharing a black-and-white shot of Meghan during her pregnancy with Harry and their 2-year-old son Archie by photographer Misan Harriman on their social media accounts, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge said, “We are all delighted by the happy news of the arrival of baby Lili. Congratulations to Harry, Meghan and Archie.”

Lilibet Diana has already met her great-grandmother and namesake, Queen Elizabeth, over a video call.

According to a source in this week’s issue of People magazine, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex “were very excited and couldn’t wait to share that their daughter arrived” as soon as they returned home from Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, not far from the family’s home in Montecito, California.

Since Meghan and Harry relocated to California last year, it’s unclear when the Queen will get to meet her 11th great-grandchild in person.

Although Prince Harry is expected to return to the UK for the July 1 unveiling of the Kensington Palace statue in honour of his late mother, Princess Diana, Meghan and their two children won’t be making the trip.

Prince Harry and Meghan may decide to spend the holidays in the UK at the end of this year, or they may wait until next summer to join the Queen for her Platinum Jubilee celebrations, marking 70 years of her service to the throne.
