Friday marked a pivotal moment at Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar district, where Saraswati Puja kicked off at the contentious Bhojshala complex under an ironclad security blanket. Devotees in large numbers flocked to the venue since dawn, transforming the historic site into a hub of devotion on Vasant Panchami.

The Supreme Court’s timely intervention on Thursday paved the way, granting Hindus full-day puja rights from sunrise to sunset and reserving afternoon hours for Muslim namaz. This balanced approach aims to prevent any flare-up in a region prone to communal sensitivities.

At the heart of the controversy is the 11th-century structure under ASI protection. For Hindus, it’s the sacred Bhojshala temple enshrining Goddess Saraswati; for Muslims, the Kamal Maula Mosque. A longstanding 2003 pact had delineated worship days, but today’s event tests the fragile equilibrium.

Security forces, numbering more than 8,000 including elite RAF teams, blanketed the area. District Collector Priyank Mishra detailed the meticulous planning, emphasizing zero tolerance for disruptions. Communal harmony remains the top priority, he stressed, with severe penalties for hate-mongering across media channels.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s Vasant Panchami wishes on social media highlighted Saraswati’s benevolence, wishing enlightenment and prosperity for every resident of the state and nation.

With Muslims scheduled to arrive for prayers between 1 PM and 3 PM, the administration’s vigilance is unwavering. This event not only celebrates knowledge and learning but also serves as a litmus test for India’s pluralistic fabric, where faith meets forbearance.

The Supreme Court’s bid to balance Hindu worship and Muslim prayers at Madhya Pradesh’s disputed Bhojshala complex may inadvertently fuel division, according to prominent Muslim leader Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi. Speaking…

The Supreme Court’s bid to balance Hindu worship and Muslim prayers at Madhya Pradesh’s disputed Bhojshala complex may inadvertently fuel division, according to prominent Muslim leader Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi.

Speaking exclusively in Bareilly, Razvi, who heads the All India Muslim Jamat, dissected the court’s Thursday order allowing sunrise puja on Basant Panchami followed by namaz. While ownership of the Dhar site—claimed as both Bhojshala temple and Kamal Maula Mosque—remains sub-judice, this status quo arrangement has Razvi worried.

“Shared sacred spaces breed conflict when crowds gather simultaneously,” he cautioned. The decades-old row intensified recently, with lower courts halting rituals before the apex court stepped in to mandate timed access and prevent clashes.

Razvi prayed for calm but painted a grim picture: rival groups jostling for space could spiral into violence. He highlighted the site’s dual significance—Hindus see it as a 11th-century seat of learning, Muslims as a functioning mosque—making coexistence tricky.

On a related note, Razvi weighed in on Shankaracharya Avimukteshwaranand’s standoff at Prayagraj’s ongoing Kumbh. The notice barring his ritual bath wounded the revered figure’s dignity, he said, but urged closure.

“As a dharmaguru, he should heed the Chief Minister’s call, drop the dharna, and focus on piety,” Razvi advised. With UP CM intervening personally, prolonging the issue serves no purpose.

Razvi’s interventions reflect broader anxieties in India’s pluralistic fabric, where judicial nods to tradition must not override the imperative of peace. The Bhojshala test case looms large for future disputes.
