BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya also claimed that assets of a minister in the TMC government have increased exponentially since 2006.

COVID-19: Vijayvargiya says media ‘spreading panic’ as MP’s virus situation worsens
By PTI
INDORE: BJP general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya on Tuesday said panic is spreading by media reports showing bodies of COVID-19 victims piling up, and urged media persons to also show positive stories of those serving the pandemic-affected people. He said doctors, paramedical staff, NGOs and people from other fields are working continuously to serve the COVID-19-affected people.
“I request to the people in the media. You are everyday showing piles of dead bodies (of COVID-19 victims), suffering and agony of dying patients. This is creating panic among common people,” Vijayvargiya told reporters.
He said If you look at history, pandemic comes once every 100 years.
In such a situation, the media should show how doctors and paramedical staff are working continuously.
The BJP leader said many non-medical persons and NGOs are also serving the coronavirus-affected people.
“This, too, should be shown to the public as it is very essential for creating a positive atmosphere,” he said.
The COVID-19 tally in Madhya Pradesh increased by 12,727 on Tuesday to reach 4,33,704, while the day also saw 77 patients dying and 8,937 recovering, an official said.
The state has so far seen 4,713 deaths and 3,50,720 people getting discharged, leaving it with an active caseload of 78,271, he added.
In April so far, the state has recorded 138,193 new cases and 727 fatalities, the official pointed out.
Indore’s count rose by 1,753 to touch 92,768, and Bhopal’s touched 71,967 with the addition of 1,693 cases, he said.
“During the day, Indore reported eight deaths, taking its toll to 1,062, while that of Bhopal rose by three to touch 682.
Indore has 12,324 active cases and Bhopal has 9,037,” he added.
With 51,385 samples being examined on Tuesday, the number of tests in MP crossed 71.79 lakh.
Coronavirus figures in MP are as follows: Total cases 4,33,704, new cases 12,727, death toll 4,713, recovered 3,50,720, active cases 78,271, number of tests so far 71,79,032.
Vijayvargiya termed as unconstitutional, the demand of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to curtail election schedule in her state to check the spread of COVID-19.
The senior BJP leader, in-charge of party affairs in West Bengal, said Banerjee lacks knowledge about technical aspects of elections.
Banerjee has requested the Election Commission to reconsider its decision of conducting elections as scheduled earlier.
The TMC chief has suggested to hold the polling in the last three phases of elections in one go or in two days to minimise the effect of COVID-19.
Banerjee lacks knowledge about technical aspects of elections.
Once the EC has announced poll schedule, it sets the schedule of many poll-related exercises, including time that a candidate gets for campaigning,” Vijayvargiya said.
How can one reduce the time period for campaigning.
The EC wont be able to take any such decision as it will be unconstitutional.
It is not proper for Banerjee to make such a demand to gain sympathy of people, the BJP leader said.
On senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi cancelling his election rallies in West Bengal, he caustically remarked, Who is anyway going to his rallies? Vijayvargiya claimed the BJP will easily get past the majority mark (148 seats) in West Bengal after the sixth phase of polling on April 22.
After seventh and eighth rounds of voting, the partys tally of seats would reach 200 in a house of 294, he claimed.
West Bengal assembly elections are being held in eight phases.
The last phase will be held on April 29, while counting of votes will take place on May 2.
On protests by the Congress in Madhya Pradesh on the issue of shortage of hospital beds, Remdesivir injections and medical oxygen for COVID-19 patients, he said in such a difficult situation politicians should come forward to help people by rising above party politics.
Answering a question, he said the state’s BJP government is taking all possible measures to deal with the pandemic.

No plans to conduct NRC exercise in Bengal, CAA to be implemented: Vijayvargiya
By PTI
KOLKATA: Countering opposition claims that the BJP, if voted to power in Bengal, will update the National Register of Citizens (NRC), thereby “taking away the citizenship rights of people”, Kailash Vijayvargiya, the saffron camp’s national general secretary, on Sunday reaffirmed that no such plan is on the radar. He, however, stated that the party intends to implement the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and provide rights to refugees who fled religious persecution in neighbouring countries and moved to India.
“We are only looking forward to implementing the CAA after the elections, as promised in the manifesto. It is an important issue for us, as we strive to grant citizenship to the persecuted refugees. We do not have any plan of conducting the NRC exercise, even if we win the elections,” he said.
According to state BJP sources, the new citizenship law will benefit more than 1.5 crore people in India, including over 72 lakh in West Bengal.
Accusing the TMC of “running a disinformation campaign against the saffron camp, the 64-year-old leader wondered why the ruling party in the state is opposing the CAA, which could be of benefit to many.
Bengal has a sizeable population of Matuas, who had been migrating to the state since the 1950s, primarily due to religious persecution.
The community, with its three million members, influences at least four Lok Sabha seats and 30-40 assembly seats in Nadia, North and South-24 Parganas.
The TMC hopes to politically exploit the confusion over CAA implementation to curry favour with the Matua community, which had voted hands down in favour of the saffron camp in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
Training his guns on Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over her assertion that the “Election Commission was working at the behest of the BJP”, Vijayvargiya, who is also the BJP’s Bengal minder, said it was an irony that the TMC boss pointed no finger at the poll panel when her party registered two successive electoral victories.
Contending that Banerjee’s “foolish claims” will yield no result, he said the TMC, sensing defeat, is levelling absurd allegations against the saffron party.
“Mamata Banerjee never felt that the EC was acting partially when she won the polls. The irony is that when you were winning the elections, everything seems fine. Once you start sensing defeat, you blame the EC and the electronic voting machines,” he said.
Exuding confidence that the BJP will sweep the assembly elections, with more than 200 seats in its kitty, Vijayvargiya also downplayed insinuations that the party could be at a disadvantage for not having projected a chief ministerial face in Bengal, and said “several leaders are capable of taking the reins of the state” and a decision would be taken only after the polls.
“We are fighting the elections under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. We have never projected a CM face in poll-bound states. For us, ideology is important. Once voted to power, the legislative party in consultation with the top leaders will decide on the CM candidate,” he said.
In an interview with PTI, the BJP’s Bengal minder further claimed that the people of the state are waiting to witness “ashol poriborton” (real change), as they have long endured infiltration woes, corrupt practices and the politics of appeasement.
The call for “poriborton” was first given by the TMC during the 2011 assembly polls, as it sought to end the 34- year Left rule in the state.
Slamming the Mamata Banerjee camp over its “outsider versus insider” debate, the BJP’s chief strategist in Bengal said that the ruling party in the state has nothing better to talk about, given its dismal performance in the last 10 years.
The TMC has branded the BJP as a “party of outsiders” as its top leaders hail from other states.
“The TMC wants to make an emotional appeal with its ‘Bengal daughter’ campaign. But I don’t think Bengal would get swayed away by this. This is 2021, and such issues don’t have much of an impact. As the party has no achievement in its bag, it clings to this ‘outsider-insider’ debate,” he said.
Noting that people are fed up with the TMC’s “syndicate culture, appeasement politics and politicisation and criminalisation of administration”, Vijayvargiya said “corruption has percolated to the grass-roots level, and that has angered the people of the state”.
Insisting that the BJP is keen on securing India’s eastern borders, which have turned into a “transit point for terror elements”, he said infiltration is not just threatening national security but also taking a toll on the country’s economy, as locals now have to compete with the illegal immigrants for jobs.
Dismissing allegations that “communal polarisation has reared its ugly head in Bengal, with the growth of the BJP in the state”, the senior saffron camp leader said the TMC’s appeasement politics was to blame for the rise in identity politics, and his party, once voted to power, would put an end to this practice.
Asked whether the rift between old-timers and newcomers over ticket distribution has been reined in, he said everyone in the party will have to abide by the rules and regulations laid down by the top brass.
“During the last assembly polls, we had difficulty finding suitable candidates for the 294 seats. This time, however, there were as many as 5,000 aspirants. Thankfully, everything is under control.”
“We have spoken to all workers, and they are back working for the party. We are a disciplined party, but we also practise democracy and everyone has the right to express their views,” he said.

By PTI
KHANDWA: BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya on Thursday claimed that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will be defeated from Nandigram in the coming Assembly polls. She would have lost from Bhabanipur, her current constituency, and therefore decided to contest from Nandigram this time, he said.

By ANI

Several other leaders, including BJP West Bengal Vice President Arjun Singh and Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary, have also hit out at Banerjee for ‘doing nautanki’ (theatrics) to gain sympathy.

Banerjee sustained “severe bony injuries” on her left foot and ankle as well as bruises and injuries on her shoulder, forearm and neck, according to the report of her initial medical examination.

‘I am a cobra…’: Mithun Chakraborty joins BJP, pledges support to PM Modi
By Express News Service
KOLKATA: Former TMC Rajya Sabha MP and Bengali actor Mithun Chakrabarty, who joined the BJP and shared the stage with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Kolkata’s Brigade Parade Ground, have raised a new slogan for the upcoming Assembly elections.Accusing Bengal’s ruling party of following the politics of violence, Chakrabarty reminded a famous dialogue of his Bengali film and said he would use the new slogan during the campaign.
“Earlier it was marbo ekhane, lash porbe shoshane (I will beat you here, your body will be found in a crematorium). It has become old now. I have prepared a new slogan for the campaigns in this election. It is aami jaldhora noi, helebora noi, aami jaat gokhro, ek chobolei chobi (I am a venomous snake-like Indian cobra, if I bite you, you will be dead),” he said as the crowd roared.
The National Award-winning actor said he had always wanted to work for the underprivileged, and the saffron camp has given him a platform to fulfil his aspiration.
Chakrabarty was handed over a party flag by BJP’s West Bengal president Dilip Ghosh. The actor was once known for his close proximity with former transport and sports minister Subhas Chakrabarty during the Left Front regime.
Later, he then shifted sides and became TMC’s Rajya Sabha MP. However, had quit the Upper House in 2016 after his name surfaced in the Saradha Ponzi scam.
Sources in the BJP said he would start participating in poll campaigns from March 12.
Praising Chakrabarty, Modi said, “Mithun Chakrabarty is among us today. He struggled in his life and achieved what he is today. He is blessed by Lokenath Thakur”.
Reacting to Chakrabarty’s new slogan, TMC MP and spokesperson Saugata Roy said, “He changed his political allegiance several times. I do not want to give him importance.”
He also asserted that he was proud to be a Bengali.
“I always wanted to do something big in life, but had never dreamt of being a part of such a huge rally which is to be addressed by world’s most popular leader Narendra Modi.
I wished to work for the poorer sections of our society, and that wish will now be fulfilled,” he said.
Vijayvargiya, who visited Chakraborty at his residence here on Saturday evening, had announced that he would be participating in the rally.
Last month, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat met the actor at his Mumbai bungalow over breakfast, setting off speculation that he might join the BJP.
The septuagenarian actor, a former Naxalite, sprang to stardom with his role as a tribal archer in Mrinal Sen’s film ‘Mrigayaa’ in 1976 for which he won the National Film Award for the best actor.
An alumni of Kolkata’s prestigious Scottish Church College, which boasts of Subhash Chandra Bose, Nepal’s first Prime Minister B P Koirala and Gopinath Bordoloi, the first chief minister of Assam, as its students, Chakraborty was seen as a politically conscious actor and often cast by Leftist movie directors.
His joining the Trinamool Congress, a left of centre regional party, consequently did not come as a surprise.
However, his move to join the BJP, a right of centre party is seen as a complete break from his past political views.
Chakraborty, however, defended his decision by stating he remained consistent in his desire to serve the poor.
Chakraborty became a popular name in Bollywood and in foreign film markets like the former Soviet Union in the 1980s when he starred in a string of action movies, family dramas and musicals.
Among his box office hits were ‘Disco Dancer’, ‘Kasam Paida Karne wale Ki’ and ‘Commando’.
His action movies won him a large following among youth growing up in the 1980s to 2000s.
Parallel to his Bollywood career, Chakraborty also became a star in the Bengali film industry with major productions such as ‘Nadi theke Sagare’, ‘Troyee’, ‘Kalankini Kankabati’ and ‘MLA Fatakeshto’, making him a household name in Bengal.

Tejashwi Yadav won’t make any difference in Bengal Assembly polls: Kailash Vijayvargiya
By ANI
KOLKATA: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya on Tuesday said that Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav will not make any difference in the West Bengal Assembly polls because people will vote for BJP due to their faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This comes a day after Yadav promised to give his full support to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the coming assembly polls in the state.
“Before the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Mamata Banerjee projected herself as Prime Ministerial candidate by calling leaders from all parties on a stage in Kolkata. Inspite of this, the people of Bengal did not vote for her. Tejashwi Yadav or anybody will not make any difference in West Bengal polls because people have faith in Narendra Modi and want a government under his leadership,” Vijayvargiya told ANI here.
The BJP made deep inroads in the state in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections winning 18 seats and reducing TMC’s tally to 22. Out of the total 42 Lok Sabha constituencies in West Bengal, Congress won two seats, the Left drew a blank.
When asked about the infighting between Congress leaders over the party’s alliance with Furfura Sharif’s Indian Secular Front (ISF), Vijayvargiya said, “I don’t want to comment on Congress’ infighting. It is their own fight. Relations don’t get stronger when there is a fight for selfish needs.”
“An alliance based on greed doesn’t last long. It’s alarming that Congress, CPM and TMC are going to any length for appeasement politics. They are getting exposed in the process,” he added.
Vijayvargiya, BJP’s central observer for West Bengal, also spoke about PM Modi’s scheduled rally in Kolkata on March 7 and the party’s prospects.
“BJP is going among the masses with the message of ‘sabka saath, saabka vikas’. Narendra Modi’s upcoming rally will be the biggest rally in the history of West Bengal,” he said.
BJP functionaries including Kailash Vijayvargiya, national General Secretary, Mukul Roy national Vice-President, Sanjay Singh, General Secretary and Swapan Dasgupta, MP, Rajya Sabha are looking into the preparations at Brigade Parade Ground, Kolkata where PM Modi will address a public meeting on March 7.
This will be PM Modi’s first rally in West Bengal post the announcement of election dates by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Meanwhile, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Swapan Dasgupta along with other BJP leaders met the Election Commission seeking clarification on the status of administrators of 124 municipalities and 477 corporations “whose term has ended but most of them are being run by administrators, who are not actually administrators but political appointees. They are still continuing.”
“Does the model code of conduct apply to them? We believe it does and must be adhered to by them. We demanded that these so-called administrators must be replaced by people who are answerable to the government. These people are not accountable to the government. Various ward offices in the municipal and corporations are being run as political parties offices. We urge the commission to ensure that this does not happen,” Dasgupta said.
West Bengal Assembly elections will be held in eight phases starting from March 27 with the final round of voting taking place on April 29. Counting of votes will take place on May 2.

‘Vijayvargiya’s aide plotted against me’, says Bengal BJP leader booked in drug case
By Express News Service
KOLKATA: BJP’s West Bengal youth wing leader Pamela Goswami, who was arrested with cocaine in her possession in Kolkata on Friday, alleged that Rakesh Singh, a close aide of the saffron camp’s national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya hatched the conspiracy to frame her in a false case. She also demanded a probe by the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) into the incident.
Pamela, who is the secretary of the youth wing, was intercepted by the officers of the New Alipore police station. Cocaine weighing 76 gm was found in her handbag and under the seat of the car in which she was traveling. She and a man, who was accompanying her, were arrested under the provisions of the NDPS Act.
While being produced in a Kolkata court, Pamela got down from a police vehicle and frantically shouted: “BJP’s Rakesh Singh, the close aide of Kailash Vijayvargiya, should be arrested. This his conspiracy to frame me in a false case. I want CID investigation.” Vijayvargiya is also BJP’s Bengal observer.
Pamela, however, did not repeat her allegation in the courtroom. She was remanded to police custody for five days.
Police sources said Pamela came under the scanner of the cops after she was spotted on several occasions visiting a particular café, sitting in a parked car, and interacting with youth who drove up to the car riding motorcycles.
“Suspecting a drug deal, we waited for her to arrive on Friday and caught her red-handed,” said a police officer.
