    By Express News Service

The makers of Joaquin Phoenix’s Napoleon have unveiled a new trailer for the film. Directed by Ridley Scott, the more than two-minute-long trailer offers a gripping glimpse into the title character’s ruthless battle strategies.

Napoleon is the latest movie from director Ridley Scott, whose notable titles over the years include Alien, Blade Runner, Thelma & Louise, Gladiator, and House of Gucci.

The trailer opens with a brutal moment on the battlefield where Napoleon blasts the sheet of ice beneath the feet of an entire cavalry, sending them sinking into the water below. The remainder of the trailer showcases a similar brutality in his approach to the rest of his life.

Along with many shots of Phoenix’s titular commander, the trailer also includes the romantic relationship between Bonaparte and his wife, Empress Joséphine.

The film marks Phoenix’s second collaboration with Scott after the much-acclaimed 2000 film Gladiator. Vanessa Kirby essays the role of Josephine, the emperor’s wife.

Napoleon also stars Tahar Rahim, Mark Bonnar, Rupert Everett, and Youssef Kerkour. Penned by David Scarpa, the film is backed by Apple TV in association with Sony Pictures Entertainment.  The film will focus on the world-famous ruler’s origins, his elevation to being a ruthless emperor through the course of various battles, and strategies.

Napoleon is all set to hit the theatres on November 22. After this, the film will be available for streaming on Apple TV+

  • Joaquin Phoenix to star in Todd Haynes’ next

    By Express News Service

Director Todd Haynes, who is awaiting the release of his film May December, opened up about his next film which will feature Joaquin Phoenix, on the sidelines of the film’s promotions. The director said that the film will be a love story between two men, set against the backdrop of the 30s and will have “explicit sexual content”.

Speaking to Variety, Todd also added that one character will be Native American while the other will be a corrupted cop in LA. As the duo have to flee to Mexico, Todd was quoted as saying, “But it’s a love story and with a strong sexual component. And what was so remarkable is that it all started with Joaquin having some ideas and some thoughts and just questions and images. And he came to me and said, Does this connect to you at all? And I was like, Yeah, this is really interesting. And so we would just be on the phone talking and it developed into a script.”

While the director did not give out the names for the cast, he said that they intend to shoot in Mexico and build 30s Los Angeles there as well. While a production banner is yet to be associated, Todd said, “Everyone is already engaged on this next one and can’t wait. We have everybody already doing stuff on it, research stuff. And yeah, we’re talking to Mexican producers, co-producers.” Meanwhile, Todd’s May December, starring actors Natalie Portman, and Julianne Moore, will release in selected theatres on November 17 and premiere on Netflix on December 1. • Willem Dafoe wants to be a part of ‘Joker’ sequel with Joaquin Phoenix

    By ANI

WASHINGTON: Will we see actor Willem Dafoe take on the role of Batman’s nemesis — Joker? The Oscar-nominated star recently revealed that he has “fantasized” about being in the ‘Joker’ sequel with actor Joaquin Phoenix.

Dafoe, who appears as this month’s British GQ Hype cover star, shared his idea for a potential ‘Joker’ sequel opposite Phoenix, reported People magazine.

On being asked if he relishes playing villains, he said, “I don’t know what that is. I’ll play dumb. You play characters. I could say, ‘Oh yeah, it’s fun to play villains ’cause you can do things that you can’t do in life, or it’s fun to play with your dark side.’ But I don’t know. I’m not thinking about those things.”

Dafoe opened up about a film concept he’s frequently thought about involving a ‘Joker’ sequel with Phoenix. “There is something interesting about, like, if there was a Joker imposter,” Dafoe said.

“So it would be possible to have not dueling Jokers but someone that [claims] to be the Joker that isn’t the Joker,” he added. “And that kind of opens up the possibility of an interesting story, particularly if you had Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker, and then you had someone who was either imitating or riffing off what he did,” Dafoe continued.

The actor added, “I fantasized about that. But other than that I am not talking to anybody [about it], you’re the first one.” Phoenix starred as the Joker in the 2019 movie of the same name for which he earned an Oscar for Best Actor.

Dafoe has a long history of portraying characters of dubious intent, particularly as the Green Goblin in the original ‘Spider-Man’ trilogy with Tobey Maguire and in the most recent ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ with Tom Holland. The actor has also starred as the mentor figure of Jason Momoa’s ‘Aquaman’ in the 2018 film.

  • Hollywood star Joaquin Phoenix teases possible ‘Joker’ sequel

    By ANI

WASHINGTON: American actor Joaquin Phoenix, who won an Oscar for the hit 2019 film ‘Joker’, isn’t closing the book on his character Arthur Fleck just yet.

The 46-year-old star is open to the idea of a sequel to ‘Joker’, the Todd Phillips directorial, in which he played a young version of the infamous DC villain.

Phoenix, who garnered immense appreciation for his portrayal of Arthur in ‘Joker’, recently told The Playlist that he sees potential for a follow-up film, reported People magazine.

“I mean, I dunno. From when we were shooting, we started to — you know, uhh, this is an interesting guy,” Phoenix said, speaking of his Joker character.

“There are some things we could do with this guy and could [explore] further. But as to whether we actually will? I don’t know,” he added.

Rumours of a second ‘Joker’ film have been swirling for a while now, dating back to 2019, when the movie was first released. In November of that year, The Hollywood Reporter reported that a sequel was “on the way” after the original film brought in over USD 1 billion.

“As the movie keeps raking in money overseas, Phillips is in talks to reprise his role as director for a second Joker outing (he and Scott Silver, who penned the gritty Joker screenplay, will write the follow-up),” THR added.

However, no official plans for a ‘Joker’ sequel have been announced since.

Phoenix previously expressed interest in returning for another film as Arthur Fleck. In October 2019, the actor appeared on Popcorn with Peter Travers, where he said, “I talked to Todd [Phillips] a lot about what else we might be able to do, in general, just working together, but also specifically, if there’s something else with Joker that might be interesting.”

Phillips, who previously directed the ‘Hangover’ films, shut down the idea for a ‘Joker’ franchise similar to his hit comedy trio. He insisted to GameSpot in 2019 that Joker was “one movie.”

“We have no plan for a sequel,” the director added.

“We made this movie, I pitched it to Warner Bros. as one movie, it exists in its own world, that’s it. It’s not about world-building, it’s not about other versions, it’s like, here’s our version of the origin story, that’s it,” he further said.

While Phoenix has not confirmed any plans for a ‘Joker’ sequel, he has been keeping busy with other projects.

His most recent film, ‘C’mon C’mon’, debuted at the Telluride Film Festival in September, and he is currently filming ‘Disappointment Blvd.’, and set to star in ‘Kitbag’ as Napoleon Bonaparte.

  • Nathan Lane, Patti LuPone, Amy Ryan, Kylie Rogers join Joaquin Phoenix’s ‘Disappointment Blvd’

    By Express News Service
Actors Nathan Lane, Patti LuPone, Amy Ryan and Kylie Rogers will join Ari Aster’s upcoming Joaquin Phoenix-starrer Disappointment Blvd.

Disappointment Blvd, written by Aster, is said to be an “intimate, decades-spanning portrait of one of the most successful entrepreneurs of all time.” However, details of the plotline are currently under wraps.

Aster will write and direct, and also produce the film with Lars Knudsen, under their Square Peg banner. Elisa Alvares and Timo Argillander of IPR.VC will executive produce.

While it remains unclear when the production will begin, it is likely that Phoenix will shoot for the film before Kitbag, the Ridley Scott movie in which he plays Napoleon Bonaparte. Phoenix will be seen next in Mike Mills’ C’mon C’mon, which was shot in 2019.

A Broadway actor, Lane recently starred in Showtime’s Penny Dreadful: City of Angels and will be seen in the upcoming Hulu series Only Murders in the Building. LuPone, another stage actor, recently starred as Avis Amberg in the Netflix series Hollywood. Rogers, will be seen next in the Cheaper By the Dozen reboot.
