  • no confidence motion in haryana: BJP’s Haryana govt confident of support from some JJP MLAs

BJP is confident of securing its government in Haryana, even as JJP and Congress has sought the governor’s intervention for a floor test of the Nayab Saini-led government. BJP is confident of support from several JJP MLAs.

Former BJP ally, Dushyant Chautala, has written to the governor demanding a floor test in the state assembly. In his letter, Chautala said that the recent resignations and withdrawals of support have left the ruling BJP alliance teetering on the brink of a minority status. Till a few months ago, he was deputy chief minister in the BJP-JJP alliance government in Haryana.

Similarly, Congress leader Bhupender Hooda also said he has sought time from the governor and would demand that an assembly session be called so that the Saini government would prove its majority on the floor of the House.Political temperature has risen in Haryana after three independent MLAs withdrew their support from the BJP government there. Responding to the questions of BJP government lacking majority, Saini said “whenever the session will be called, we will win the trust vote”.”Where was Dushyant Chautala when the special session of the assembly was called? And BJP govt won majority. Earlier, he was enjoying power. Now he is out of it, so he is doing all this. Chautala has lost people’s trust,” Saini said.BJP government, which has the support of two other independents, is now two seats short of the majority mark in the 90-member House, which has a current strength of 88.

  • Congress will ‘expose’ BJP-JJP government in upcoming budget session: Ex-Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda

    By PTI

CHANDIGARH: Former Haryana chief minister and leader of opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Thursday said the Congress will “expose” the BJP-JJP government by raising several issues like unemployment, farmers’ plight and rising debt in the upcoming budget session of the state assembly.

The budget session will begin on March 2.

Hooda alleged that the burden of debt and corruption on people is increasing continuously due to the policies of the coalition government.

“Haryana is facing the highest rate of unemployment, rising poverty, inequality, backbreaking inflation, deteriorating law and order, huge debt, economic slowdown, poor health facilities, falling education level, widespread corruption and also challenges like pollution,” he alleged in a statement here.

“This government has buried the state under a debt of Rs 2.5 lakh crore,” he said as he targeted the Manohar Lal Khattar-led government over several other issues.

“Every section of the state is feeling cheated,” he said.

Hooda said farmers of the state are facing the brunt of bad weather as well as government policies.

“Farmers are facing water logging and crops are getting damaged due to continuous unseasonal rains, but the government has neither compensated the farmers for the loss caused in the Kharif season nor got the full ‘girdawari’ done for the damage caused in the Rabi season,” he said.

“Farmers faced ruin for two consecutive seasons due to water logging in large areas, but the government did not take any cognisance of the problems of the farmers,” he stated.

The former chief minister said 46,500 posts in the education department and about 10,000 jobs in the health department are vacant which reflect the condition of the government departments.

“Haryana is now lagging behind neighbouring states of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh in terms of health services. A total of 52,000 Anganwadi workers have been on strike since the last two months, but the government is not ready to give them the benefits of the announcements made by the chief minister and Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he said.

Hooda also expressed concern over the dilapidated condition of roads across the state.

  • RSS not in agreement with Haryana government decision of 75 per cent quota in private sector jobs

    By PTI
NEW DELHI: The RSS is not in agreement with the decision of the BJP-JJP government in Haryana to reserve 75 per cent of private-sector jobs with a salary cap of Rs 50,000 monthly for locals, as it is against the Sangh’s view of ‘one nation, one people’, a senior functionary said on Tuesday.

The RSS, the ideological mentor of the BJP, feels that the law has been brought to ease the pressure felt by the state government in wake of the farmers’ protest against the three contentious agri laws, the functionary said.

The Haryana State Employment Of Local Candidates Bill, 2020, which was passed by the state assembly last year, will provide a quota for local people in private sector jobs that offer a monthly salary of less than Rs 50,000.

“RSS believes in one nation one people, and this law is fundamentally against it. And governments should not regulate the flow of migrant labour in the country as we all believe in unity diversity,” said the functionary, who has spend sizeable time in Haryana and the northern region looking after Sangh work.

It seems that the BJP was also not totally for this law but came on board with its ally JJP as the state government was feeling the heat of the ongoing farmers’ protest and also of khap panchayats organised across the state in support of the farmers, the Sangh leader said.

The RSS feels that this law may have some temporary benefits for a section of the people but in the long run, it will not be in the interest of Haryana’s economy, he said.

JJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister of Haryana Dushyant Chautala, who was piloting this bill, said the state government is open to including suggestions from industry bodies while framing rules for the law.

Responding to criticism from various quarters, including some members of the industry, Dushyant claimed that many people have “misconception” about the law and pointed out that Haryana was not the only state where such a provision had been made.

  • Haryana: Day before no-confidence vote, JJP MLA Babli says he stands with farmers

    By PTI
CHANDIGARH: A day before the Haryana assembly takes up a no-confidence motion against the BJP-JJP government, JJP MLA Devender Singh Babli on Tuesday said he stands with protesting farmers but added that he alone could not take a decision and it was for his party to decide on walking out of the ruling alliance.

Asked about his party issuing a whip to its MLAs for their compulsory presence in the House on Wednesday and his stand on the no-confidence motion, Babli said, “When the party has issued whip, willingness or non-willingness is not the question, one has to go by what the party has decided.”

On farmer leaders spearheading the stir against the Centre’s new farm laws requesting all MLAs to support the no-confidence motion, Babli said, “If I alone take a stand, will farmers get justice? The voice I am raising in favour of farmers by being a member of the House, will I be able to do that when my party expels me for taking a different stand.”

Babli, who was interacting with reporters after the end of the day’s proceedings in the assembly, said, “You should understand. Entire party should withdraw support, Dushyant (Chautala) should take a step if this issue (farmers) is not being resolved. All (JJP) MLAs should come out (of the alliance).”

He said during party legislature group meetings in the past Deputy Chief Minister and JJP leader Dushyant Chautala had been telling them the farmers issue will be resolved.

Asked why Chautala is not listening to his MLAs when majority of them have openly come out in support of farmers, Babli replied, “Don’t you know that? He thinks he can get more benefits for the farmer by being part of the government.”

To another question, he said, “I have come in support of farmers and even today I have the same stand. Earlier too, I had said the situation wherein ruling party legislators are facing opposition from farmers in villages is not good and this issue should be resolved.”

Talking to reporters after the day’s proceedings in the state assembly ended on Tuesday evening, former chief minister and Congress leader B S Hooda reiterated, “The no-confidence motion will let people know which MLA stands with the government and which MLA stands with farmers.”

He said the party needed to move a no-confidence motion because the BJP-JJP government has lost public confidence and the coalition government, betraying public opinion, is taking anti-people decisions one after the other.

When asked that opposition did not have the numbers on their side, Hooda quipped, “But that does not mean opposition will not play its role.”

With the Congress’s no-confidence motion against the BJP-JJP government set to be taken up in the Haryana Assembly on Wednesday, the ruling BJP-JJP as well as main the opposition party have issued whips to their respective members for their compulsory presence in the House.

In the 90-member Haryana Assembly, currently having an effective strength of 88 members, the ruling BJP has 40 members, the JJP 10 and the Congress 30.

Seven are Independents, five of whom are supporting the government, while one member is of the Haryana Lokhit Party, who has also extended support to the government.

    By PTI
KARNAL: Ruling JJP’s Karnal district president Inderjit Singh Goraya on Tuesday quit the party in solidarity with farmers protesting against the Centre’s agriculture laws.

Goraya, a leader of Jannayak Janta Party, which is a coalition partner of the BJP in Haryana, quit is party post along with the party, saying he had earlier asked Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala to exert pressure on the Centre to rollback these “anti-farmers” laws.

“The stir against these farm laws has become a people’s movement but the Centre is not accepting the demand farmers’ demand to repeal them,” he said.

“Thousands of peasants are protesting for the past 70 days at various Delhi border points against these laws. I am a farmer first and I decided to resign from my post and quit the party to stand with them,” he said.

  • BJP confident of Dushyant Chautala remaining in Haryana govt

    Express News Service
NEW DELHI:  The BJP appears confident that the alliance government in Haryana will come out unscathed from the farmers’ agitation on account of the political compulsion of Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala. Giving confidence to the BJP is that the Dushyant Chautala-led Janata Jannayak Party (JJP) is faced with the challenge to retain its Jat support base, which is seen increasingly shifting to the Congress.

Even as Khattar and the BJP leaders haven’t been able to cut ice with the agitating farmers, the party believes that there’s not much of support for the agitation from Haryana. Union Home Minister Amit Shah had met CM Manohar Lal Khattar and Dushyant at North Block on Tuesday in the backdrop of the JJP MLAs growing vocal against the farm laws.

“The JJP MLAs are under pressure from its Jat voters. In the Rohtak-Sonipat region, former Haryana CM Bhupinder Hooda has been able to wean away the Jats. The farm agitation is just incidental, as the Jats are shifting away from the JJP to the Congress,” a party insider said.

With the JJP and the Congress largely competing for the Jat votes, the BJP leaders claim Dushyant has more stakes in ensuring that the alliance government lasts full term.  “The JJP had far more anti-BJP posturing during the Haryana poll campaign, and the post-poll change of stance by Dushyant  to forge an alliance with the BJP is putting pressure on him to retain his votes among the Jats,” said a BJP functionary.

  • Khattar, Chautala meet Amit Shah, say BJP-JJP govt in Haryana ‘strong’

    By Express News Service
NEW DELHI/CHANDIGARH: With the Centre’s new farm laws threatening to rock the boat of the BJP-JJP alliance government in Haryana, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday took stock of the political situation in the state at a meeting with CM Manohar Lal Khattar and his deputy Dushyant Chautala.

While the BJP leaders sought to downplay the threat to the alliance, Shah, who had scripted the alliance after the fractured state poll mandate, turned the focus on the law and order situation and security at the meeting.

“The government is strong and it will complete the full tenure. All aspects, including the stay by the Supreme Court and the formation of a committee of experts, were discussed with a focus on the preparations for the January 26 Republic Day celebrations,” Khattar told reporters after the meeting. Chautala, who has a strong vote base among the Jat agrarian community, also said there was no threat to the alliance government in the state. Haryana BJP chief O P Dhankar also attended the meeting.

In the House of 90 legislators, the BJP has 40 and the JJP 10 MLAs. A few of the JJP MLAs are learnt to have told the deputy CM that the alliance government may have to pay a heavy cost if the laws aren’t repealed. The Centre, incidentally, has stated on occasions that the laws will not be repealed. The Centre should rollback these laws as farmers of Haryana, Punjab and the country are up in arms against the legislations, JJP MLA Jogi Ram Sihag. “We will request Dushyant ji to convey our feelings to Amit Shah ji,” he said. “I have nothing to do with the JJP (meeting)… Not going to Delhi… The sentiment in Haryana is against the laws and it will cost the ruling alliance heavily,” JJP MLA Ram Kumar Gautam said.
