  • TV host Jimmy Fallon apologises to ‘The Tonight Show’ staffers after toxic work environment allegations

    By PTI

LOS ANGELES: American TV host Jimmy Fallon has apologised to the staff of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” after there were allegations of a “toxic” work environment on the show’s set.

The Rolling Stone magazine on Thursday came out with a report in which many staffers alleged that “The Tonight Show” has been a toxic workplace for years due to Fallon’s ‘erratic behaviour’.

Fallon, who took over as the host of the late-night programme from Jay Leno in 2014, held a brief Zoom meeting on Thursday evening and tendered an apology to the staff, reported American outlet Variety.

“It’s embarrassing and I feel so bad. Sorry if I embarrassed you and your family and friends. I feel so bad I can’t even tell you,” the 48-year-old TV personality said.

“I want this show to be fun, it should be inclusive for everybody, it should be funny, it should be the best show, the best people,” he added.

The Rolling Stone spoke to two current and 14 former employees who claimed the show’s working environment has been “far outside the boundaries of what’s considered normal in the high-pressure world of late-night TV”.

“It’s a bummer because it was my dream job. Writing for late night is a lot of people’s dream jobs, and they’re coming into this, and it becomes a nightmare very quickly. It’s sad that it’s like that, especially knowing that it doesn’t have to be that way,” one employee said.

According to the staffers, the “ugly” behind-the-scenes environment began at the top, with Fallon displaying “erratic” behaviour that led to constant shake-ups in the show’s leadership teams.

The show has had nine different showrunners since Fallon started hosting ‘The Tonight Show’.

One staffer claimed they were fired without explanation and prior warnings.

According to the report, multiple sources alleged Fallon had a history of “outbursts” and he would lash out at staff when under pressure.

They also accused the previous senior staff of bullying and belittling them.

Fallon’s ‘The Tonight Show’ is currently on hiatus due to the strikes by the Writer’s Guild of America (WGA) Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) unions.

  • Matthew McConaughey on potential political run, says he’s ‘giving consideration’

    By ANI
WASHINGTON: Hollywood star Matthew McConaughey recently opened up to talk show host Jimmy Fallon, regarding him thinking of taking political office.

According to Fox News, McConaughey while appearing on ‘The Tonight Show’, told host Jimmy Fallon that he thinks taking political office is an honourable thing to do.

The statement from the ace actor comes 10 days after he confirmed on ‘The Balanced Voice Podcast’ that he has thought of running for governor in Texas.

McConaughey told Fallon, “Well, it’s come up a lot lately. And I’m gonna say to you now the same thing I’ve been saying, which is true. It’s not a dodge. And when I say it’s something, I’m giving consideration, absolutely.”

He added, “What an honourable thing to even be able to consider. But that’s no further than that right now, sir.”

Apart from speaking about his potential run for governor, McConaughey also shared that he and his family faced their own set of hardships during the February Texas snowstorms.

The 51-year-old actor said, “Look, we’re doing good. We had, you know, a couple of pipes break. We’ve had to pull up some drywall in the house. Lost power. Just got off having to boil water four days ago.”

He continued, “But the problem in Texas is there’s tens of thousands that aren’t as good a shape as we are right now. There’s a lot of people that are out of home.”

Fox News reported that McConaughey and his wife Camila Alves are hosting a ‘We’re Texas’ virtual benefit concert Sunday evening to help raise money for the Just Keep Livin Texas Relief Fund, which is welcoming several philanthropic celebrities.

Country music and pop stars are set to perform, including Miranda Lambert, Willie Nelson, Kelly Clarkson, and more.

Meanwhile, A-listers who are Texas natives are set to make special appearances, including HGTV’s Chip and Joanna Gaines, Dr. Phil McGraw, Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Garner, Megan thee Stallion, Michael Strahan, Selena Gomez, and Stone Cold Steve Austin.

As per Fox News, last week while promoting the benefit concert on ‘CBS This Morning’, McConaughey had expressed his shock about Texas Governor Greg Abbott lifting the state-wide COVID-19 face mask mandate while saying businesses can operate at 100 per cent capacity.

  • Jimmy Fallon draws lowest ‘Tonight’ audience rating

    By ANI
WASHINGTON: American comedian Jimmy Fallon drew the lowest rating on Monday’s showing of ‘The Tonight Show.’

According to Fox News, the 46-year-old comedian averaged the smallest television audience ever for an original episode of the late-night show, according to early Nielsen ratings – pulling in 947,000 total viewers on Monday night (local time).

One of Fallon’s competing programs, Stephen Colbert’s ‘Late Show,’ on CBS took the cake on Monday evening, drawing just over 2 million viewers, according to Nielsen’s Live and Same Day fast-national numbers as reported by The Wrap.

As reported by Fox News, coming in at second place was ABC’s ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ with 1.67 million total viewers.

Per the outlet, the final numbers are expected on Wednesday.

With Fallon’s showing on Monday, the ratings unseat a previous low for an original ‘Tonight Show’ episode that came as recently as September 25, 2020 – on that night Fallon secured 992,000 total viewers when his show was delayed following a Stanley Cup Finals game.

As reported by Fox News, Fallon’s guest list on Monday was not short on big names, either.

He welcomed funnyman Bill Burr, Rashida Jones and had Old Dominion on as the evening’s musical guest.

Meanwhile, Colbert interviewed Chris Rock on Monday night while welcoming Joss Stone as the show’s musical performer.

If late-night fans had switched over to Kimmel on ABC, they would have seen ‘This Is Us’ star Milo Ventimiglia and Jake Tapper with Queen Naija as the musical guest.
