  • JEE-Advanced registrations deferred again due to delay in JEE-Mains results

    NEW DELHI: The registrations for Joint Entrance Examination (JEE)-Advanced for admission to IITs were on Monday deferred again due to delay in announcement of JEE-Main results.

    The registration process was to begin last week but was deferred till Monday due to the delay in result.

    However, the registration did not begin on Monday as well.

    Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, which is conducting JEE-Advanced this year, has not announced a new date for registration and has asked candidates to wait for an update.

    JEE-Advanced is scheduled to be conducted on October 3.

    “The result for JEE-Mains will be announced either tomorrow or latest by Wednesday,” a senior official said.

    The official did not comment on the reason behind the delay in announcement of result.

    Starting this year, JEE-Mains was conducted four times a year to offer flexibility to students and a chance to improve their scores.

    The first phase was held in February and the second in March.

    The next phases were scheduled for April and May but those were postponed in view of the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic that raged through the country affecting lakhs.

    The third edition was held from July 20-25 while the fourth edition was conducted from August 26 to September 2.

    The ranks of the candidates will be released taking into consideration the best of the four NTA scores in accordance with the policy already made.

    According to the officials, NTA scores are normalised across multi-session papers and are based on the relative performance of all those who appeared for the examination in one session.

    “The marks obtained are converted into a scale ranging from 100 to 0 for each session of examinees.

    NTA score is not the same as the percentage of marks obtained,” a senior official said.

    While the JEE-Mains is conducted for admission to engineering colleges across the country, it is considered as a qualifying test for the JEE-Advanced.

  • CBI books institute, its directors for alleged irregularities in conduct of JEE (Mains) exam

    NEW DELHI: The CBI has booked Affinity Education Pvt Ltd and its directors for alleged irregularities in the conduct of JEE (Mains) examination and carried out searches at 20 locations across the country on Thursday, officials said.

    The searches were spread at various cities, including Delhi-NCR, Pune, Jamshedpur, they said.

    The CBI has booked the institute, its directors, their touts/associates and staff posted at the examination centre and other unknown persons, CBI Spokesperson RC Joshi said.

    “A case was registered on 01.09.2021 against a the private company and others, including its directors, three employees and private persons (conduits),” he said.

  • Pending editions of JEE-Mains to be held from July 20-25 and July 27-August 2: Ramesh Pokhriyal

    NEW DELHI: The pending editions of Joint Entrance Examination (JEE)-Mains will be conducted from July 20 to 25 and July 27 to August 2, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ announced on Tuesday.

    The results of the two editions, which were postponed in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, are likely to be announced in August.

    “The third edition of JEE-Mains will be conducted from July 20-25 while the fourth edition will be held from July 27 to August 2. The exams will be conducted while following all Covid protocols keeping the safety of candidates in mind,” Nishank said.

    JEE-Mains for admission to engineering colleges is being conducted four times a year from the current academic session to offer flexibility to students and a chance to improve their scores amidst the second wave of the pandemic in India.

    The first phase in February was followed by the second phase in March, while the next phases were scheduled for April and May.

    But those were postponed after a spike in the number of cases of coronavirus during the second wave of the pandemic.

    The JEE-Advanced exam, which is conducted for admission to the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and the National Institutes of Technology (NITs), was also postponed.

    The exam was scheduled on July 3.

  • COVID: Pending editions of JEE-Mains likely in August, NEET may be postponed to September

    NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Education is contemplating conducting pending editions of engineering entrance exam JEE-Mains in July and August while the medical entrance exam NEET can be shifted to September, according to sources.

    However, a final decision in this regard is yet to be taken and the Ministry is in process of reviewing the COVID-19 situation across states and UTs.

    “The pending editions of JEE-Mains are likely to be conducted either at the end of July or August with a fortnight’s gap between the two tests. NEET is likely to be pushed to September,” a source said.

    From the current academic session, JEE-Mains is being conducted four times a year to offer flexibility to students and a chance to improve their scores.

    The first phase in February was followed by the second phase in March, while the next phases were scheduled for April and May.

    But those were postponed after an exponential rise in the number of COVID-19 cases during the second wave of the pandemic in the country.

    The JEE-Advanced exam, which is conducted for admission to the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology and the National Institutes of Technology, was also postponed.

    The exam was scheduled on July 3.

    While no further decision was taken on NEET-UG which is scheduled on August 1, the registration for the exam, which was supposed to commence from May 1, was kept in abeyance.

    The ministry is also yet to decide on the fate of the Central University Common Entrance Test (CUCET).

    Earlier this month, the CBSE cancelled class 12 board exams in view of the pandemic and has announced a marks tabulation policy.

    Following the same route, the CISCE and several state boards also cancelled the same exams.

  • May edition of JEE-Mains postponed due to worsening COVID-19 situation

    NEW DELHI: The Centre on Tuesday announced that the May session of the Joint Entrance Examination (Main) is being deferred in the wake of Covid-19 situation in the country.

    The April session of the entrance test was earlier also postponed while its previous two sessions, in February and March, had been held successfully.

    “Students are advised to keep visiting the official website of NTA (National Testing Agency) for further updates,” Union education minister Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank tweeted on Tuesday

    The test this month was scheduled for May 24-28. “However, keeping the present situation in mind, the JEE (Main) – 2021 May session is also being postponed,” NTA, under the education ministry which organises the examination, said in a statement.

    The rescheduling of the April and May sessions will be done subsequently and the registration for the May session will also be announced at a later stage, the NTA added.

    From this year, the exam for engineering students is being conducted four times a year to offer flexibility to students and a chance to improve their scores.

    While the first phase was conducted in February followed by the second phase in March.

    The next phases were scheduled to be held in April and May.

    Over 6.2 lakh candidates appeared in the first session while 5.5 lakh candidates appeared in the second session of the exam.

    As per the policy, after the February, March, April and May sessions of JEE(Main)-2021, the ranks of candidates will be released taking into consideration the best of their four scores.

    India’s total tally of COVID-19 cases crossed the 2-crore mark with over 50 lakh infections being added in just 15 days.

  • JEE Mains entrance exam postponed as India registers nearly 2.7 lakh COVID-19 cases

    NEW DELHI: Engineering entrance exam JEE-Mains scheduled to be held from April 27-30 has been postponed in view of the COVID-19 situation, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ announced on Sunday.

    “Given the current #covid19 situation, I have advised @DG_NTA to postpone the JEE (Main) – 2021 April Session.

    I would like to reiterate that safety of our students & their academic career are @EduMinOfIndia’s and my prime concerns right now,” Nishank tweeted.

    According to an official order by the National Testing Agency (NTA), “looking at the present situation of COVID-19 pandemic and also taking into account the safety and well being of candidates and examination functionaries, it has been decided to postpone JEE-(Main) April session”.

    “The revised dates will be announced later on and at least 15 days before the examination,” the order said.

    Starting this year, the exam will be conducted four times a year to offer flexibility to students and a chance to improve their scores.

    While the first phase was conducted in February followed by the second phase in March.

    The next phases were scheduled to be held in April and May.

    Over 6.2 lakh candidates appeared in the first session while 5.5 lakh candidates appeared in the second session of the exam.

    Earlier this week, the CBSE had cancelled class 10 board exams and postponed class 12 exams in view of the exponential rise in cases.

    The CISCE board followed the move besides several state boards who have either cancelled or postponed board exams.

    The announcement comes on a day when a record single-day rise of 2,61,500 coronavirus infections took India’s total tally of COVID-19 cases to 1,47,88,109, while active cases went past the 18-lakh mark.

    The death toll increased to 1,77,150 with a record 1,501 new fatalities, the Union Health Ministry data updated at 8 am Sunday showed.

    Registering a steady increase for the 39th day in a row, the active cases stand at 18,01,316, comprising 12.18 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has dropped to 86.62 per cent, the ministry said.

    The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 1,28,09,643, while the case fatality rate has further dropped to 1.20 per cent, the data stated.

    India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed 20 lakh on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16.

    It went past 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19.

    According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, 26,65,38,416 samples have been tested up to April 17 with 15,66,394 samples being tested on Saturday.

    The 1,501 new fatalities include 419 from Maharashtra, 167 from Delhi, 158 from Chhattisgarh, 120 from Uttar Pradesh, 97 from Gujarat, 80 from Karnataka, 66 from Madhya Pradesh, 62 from Punjab and 39 from Tamil Nadu.

    These fresh fatalities also include 37 each from Rajasthan and Uttarakhand, 34 each from Bihar and West Bengal, 32 from Haryana, 30 from Jharkhand, 27 from Kerala, 15 each from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and 12 from Himachal Pradesh.

    The ministry said a total of 1,77,150 deaths have been reported so far in the country including 59,970 from Maharashtra, 13,270 from Karnataka, 13,071 from Tamil Nadu, 11,960 from Delhi, 10,540 from West Bengal, 9,703 from Uttar Pradesh, 7,834 from Punjab and 7,388 from Andhra Pradesh.

    The health ministry stressed that more than 70 per cent of the deaths occurred due to co-morbidities.

  • Results announced for March session of JEE-Mains, 13 candidates score perfect 100

    NEW DELHI: Thirteen candidates scored perfect 100 in March edition of the engineering entrance exam JEE-Mains, results of which were announced on Wednesday, according to officials of the National Testing Agency.

    The exam was conducted from March 16 to 18 and a total of 6,19,368 candidates had registered for it.

    The perfect scorers are Siddharth Kalra and Kavya Chopra from Delhi; Bannuru Rohit Kumar Reddy, Madur Adarsh Reddy and Josyula Venkata Aditya from Telangana; Bratin Mondal from West Bengal; Kumar Satyadarshi from Bihar,;Mridul Agarwal and Zenith Malhotra from Rajasthan; Ashwin Abraham from Tamil Nadu; Atharva Abjhijit Tambat and Bakshi Gargi Makarand from Maharashtra.

    According to officials, NTA scores are normalised scores across multi-session papers and are based on the relative performance of all those who appeared for the examination in one session.

    NTA score is not the same as the percentage of marks obtained,” a senior official said.

    The Examination was conducted at 792 centres in 334 cities, including 12 cities outside India in Baharain, Colombo, Doha, Dubai, Kathmandu, Kualalumpur, Lagos, Muscat, Riyadh, Sharjah, Singapore and Kuwait.

    “Kargil, Kuala Lumpur, and Lagos were added for the first time on the request of candidates,” the official said.

    The examination was conducted for the second time in 13 languages (English, Hindi, Gujarati along with Assamese, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu).
