PM Modi lauds work on animal conservation
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday lauded the efforts undertaken by the government towards animal conservation, following the release of the “Status of Leopard in India” report which recorded a surge in the population of leopards in the country.
“Great news! After lions and tigers, the leopard population increases. Congratulations to all those who are working towards animal conservation. We have to keep up these efforts and ensure our animals live in safe habitats,” Prime Minister Modi tweeted.
This comes after the Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change released the status of Leopard on Monday. India’s population of leopards has gone up 60 per cent and the country now has 12,852 leopards, the ministry has said.
Releasing the “Status of Leopard in India 2018” report, Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Prakash Javadekar said that increase in numbers of Tigers, Lions and Leopards over the last few years is a testimony to the conservation efforts and of the fledgeling wildlife and biodiversity of the country.

Modi government will give subsidy on sugar exports, gift to 5 crore sugarcane farmers
In the midst of the ongoing agitation on the issue of agricultural law, the Modi cabinet has taken a big decision on Wednesday. The government has decided to export 6 million tonnes of sugar, the proceeds from this, its subsidy will be directly deposited in the account of 5 crore farmers. After the cabinet meeting, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar, Ravi Shankar Prasad informed about the decisions by holding a press conference.
The Union Minister said that this year the government has decided to give subsidy on the export of 6 million tonnes of sugar. Subsidies will be directly in farmers’ account, it will cost 3500 crores. Apart from this, income of Rs 18000 crore will also be given to the farmers.
The Union Minister said that 5 crore farmers will benefit from this, 5 lakh laborers will benefit. According to the minister, within a week, farmers will get subsidy of up to Rs 5000 crore. 60 lakh tonnes of sugar will be exported at the rate of 6 thousand rupees per ton.
According to Prakash Javadekar, sugar production will be 310 lakh tonnes this year, the consumption of the country is 260 lakh tonnes. Due to the low sugar prices, farmers and industry are in trouble, to overcome this, it has been decided to export 6 million tonnes of sugar and subsidize the exports.

Javadekar Cites Commitment To Reduce Carbon Emission
Speaking on the eve of the 5th year of Paris Climate agreement, Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar on Friday said that India is not responsible for climate change. Speaking further, the Union Minister said that Climate change isn’t an overnight phenomenon. “It has taken the last 100 years,” he added. Paris Climate Accord was adopted on December 12, 2015, by 196 parties. It became effective from November 4, 2016.
Stating that the USA has 25 per cent of all emissions, Europe has 22 per cent whereas China has 13 per cent and India only 3 per cent, Prakash Javadekar said that India is in no way responsible for climate change. While comparing the global emission of the United States and China with India, the Union minister said that at present, India is contributing only 6.8 per cent of global emissions and per capita emission is only 1.9 tonnes per capita.
Claiming that climate change is a result of historical actions, Javadekar said that India is not responsible for it. He asserted that the country has only 3 per cent of all historical emissions. While announcing that India has nearly achieved targets of its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC). “Our Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) will lead to less than 2-degree rise in temperature,” he said.
