LOS ANGELES: Actors Jani Zhao, Indya Moore and Vincent Regan have joined the cast of the upcoming “Aquaman” sequel, fronted by Jason Momoa.

Randall Park will reprise his role of Dr Stephen Shin, a marine biologist obsessed with finding the lost city of Atlantis, in “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” from the Warner Bros/ DC film.

“Aquaman”, which was released in 2018, featured Momoa as Arthur Curry aka Aquaman, a half-Atlantean, half-human who sets out to lead the underwater kingdom of Atlantis and stop his half-brother, King Orm, from uniting the seven underwater kingdoms to destroy the surface world.

Besides Momoa, Patrick Wilson is also coming back as Orm, along with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Amber Heard as Mera and Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, plot details are being kept underwater but the new additions may reveal some scope to the story.

Zhao, a Portuguese actress of Chinese descent, will play Stingray, a mystery character specially created for the sequel.

“Pose” star Moore features in the role of the longtime DC character Karshon.

The character was originally a Green Lantern villain who was originally a shark that, after being hit with radiation, gained intelligence and telepathic powers.

British thespian Regan stars as Atlan, the ancient ruler of Atlantis who caused the city to sink into the sea.

The character appeared briefly in the 2018 “Aquaman” movie and was then portrayed by Graham McTavish.

Regan is known for films like “300” and “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance”.

James Wan, who directed “Aquaman”, is returning to direct the much-anticipated follow-up. He is also producing the film with Peter Safran.

David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick is also coming back to pen the script.

“Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” is slated to be released on December 16, 2022.

  • Jason Momoa-starrer ‘Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom’ goes on floors

    By ANI
WASHINGTON: Jason Momoa-starrer ‘Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom’ has gone on floors.

Filmmaker James Wan, who is helming the sequel to the 2018 hit film ‘Aquaman’, shared the news on his Instagram account.

The director shared a photo of the clapper board from the sets and signalled the start of the film. He wrote along with the picture, “Day One. #aquaman2.”

This update comes just two weeks after Wan revealed the official title of the upcoming DC sequel. In an Instagram post, the filmmaker posted the photo of the title card from a production meeting he attended and captioned it saying, “The tide is rising.”

The upcoming project stars Jason as Aquaman, with Amber Heard expected to return as Mera and Patrick Wilson back as Orm, as per The Hollywood Reporter.

The Warner Bros studio took the first step toward the ‘Aquaman’ sequel in February 2019, by bringing back David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick to write the script. The film will be produced by Wan and Peter Safran.

‘Aquaman’ over-performed for Warner Bros., coming in above pre-release projections after launching with USD 68.7 million in its opening weekend in North America. The title gained momentum in subsequent weeks and hit USD 330 million in North America and USD 805 million internationally, led by nearly USD 300 million in China.

Johnson-McGoldrick teamed with Will Beall on the ‘Aquaman’ script, from a story by Beall, Geoff Johns, and Wan. Johnson-McGoldrick began working on the screenplay three years ago after reading ‘Aquaman’ comic books while on the set of Wan’s ‘The Conjuring 2’.

In addition to ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’, Warners Bros. has other movies slated for a big release, including ‘The Suicide Squad’, ‘The Batman’, ‘The Flash’, and Warners’ and New Line’s ‘Black Adam’ and ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’.

‘Blue Beetle’, ‘Batgirl’, ‘Supergirl’, ‘Green Lantern Corps’, ‘Static Shock’ and ‘Wonder Woman 3’ are also in the works.

‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ is slated to release on December 16, 2022.

  • Timothee Chalamet-starrer ‘Dune’ delayed again, new release date revealed

    By ANI
WASHINGTON: The wait for ‘Dune’ just got a bit longer. Warner Bros. has shifted the much-awaited sci-fi film to three weeks later, putting it at October 22, 2021.

As per Variety, it was previously set to release on October 1. The move was part of a larger release date shuffle by Warner Bros. recently.

‘The Many Saints of Newark’ was pushed back one week, taking the original spot held by ‘Dune’. The ‘Sopranos’ prequel will now debut on October 1, a week later than its previous date of September 24.

The shuffle also affected Clint Eastwood’s upcoming film ‘Cry Macho’, which was bumped up one month after ‘Dune’ took its previous spot. ‘Cry Macho’ will now release on September 17, three weeks ahead of its prior date of October 22.

This is the latest delay for ‘Dune’, helmed by Denis Villeneuve. The hotly-anticipated film was originally set for December 18, 2020, before being punted nearly a year to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The film’s cast includes Timothee Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgard, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, Jason Momoa and Javier Bardem.

The upcoming movie tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people.

The movie, which will have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, is based on Frank Herbert’s seminal science fiction bestseller.

Coincidentally, ‘Dune’s’ new release date falls on the same day as ‘The French Dispatch’, both films star Chalamet. That’s a double treat for all the Chalamet fans.

In late 2020, Warner Bros. made the bombshell decision to release its entire 2021 slate of films simultaneously in theatres and on HBO Max for a limited time.

These films, including upcoming releases like ‘The Suicide Squad’ and ‘The Matrix 4’ are still expected to follow that release plan.

  • Jason Momoa says he wants to make a movie with Dwayne Johnson

    By ANI
WASHINGTON: Actor Jason Momoa hopes to make a movie with his friend and actor Dwayne Johnson once the stars’ schedules align.

As per People magazine, the ‘Aquaman’ star appeared virtually on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ on Thursday, where he spoke about his longtime friendship with Johnson.

The two actors have been pals for almost 20 years after meeting in Hawaii through a mutual friend, and during the interview, Momoa expressed his hopes that they will be able to make a movie together when the time is right.

“We tried to get together and make a movie together but it’s just he’s way busier than I am and I’m pretty busy right now so, one of these days!” he said.

Host Jimmy Fallon excitedly replied, “You HAVE to make a movie together!” before Momoa joked that it’s definitely possible because Johnson actually owes him a favour.

“We will! And it’s really cool because now he’s kind of in my pocket so I can call him up and be like, ‘Yo!’ and I got him,” the star said.

In April, Momoa helped Johnson celebrate his daughter Tiana Gia’s third birthday by sending a personalised video message from ‘Aquaman’, one of her favourite superheroes.

“I’m sorry I couldn’t be there but I love you and tell your papa that I love him too,” Momoa said in the celebratory video.

“I’ll see you soon, happy third birthday. Bye Jazzy, bye Tia, love you,” he added.

The ‘Jungle Cruise’ star filmed the sweet moment his daughters Tiana and Jasmine, both of whom he shares with wife Lauren Hashian, were glued to the television screen and called the birthday girl’s reaction “priceless.”

“I had to make the call…it’s what daddy’s do,” Johnson captioned the clip. “I can’t thank my brother @prideofgypsies enough for making this adoring 3yr old’s birthday the best EVER. Her reaction is priceless and what it’s all about.”

Momoa commented on the video, writing it was an “honour” to wish Tiana a happy birthday.

In other news, the ‘Game of Thrones’ alum is preparing to star in a new Discovery docuseries called ‘On the Roam’. The show will follow Momoa as he sets out in search of artists and dreamers who have mastered their individual crafts.

“On the Roam is an endless quest for me to discover extraordinary people and places. I’m thrilled to be collaborating with Discovery on this journey,” Momoa said in a statement at the time.

A premiere date for ‘On the Roam’ has not yet been announced.
