  • Jason Momoa to star in Warner Bros’ ‘Minecraft’ film

    LOS ANGELES: Further cementing his relationship with Warner Bros, actor Jason Momoa is set to star in “Minecraft”, a live-action movie based on the popular video game from the studio.

    Momoa is already part of the Warner Bros universe courtesy his role as the DC superhero Aquaman. He recently starred in the multiple Oscar-winning film “Dune”, which also hails from the stable.

    According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor is in final negotiations to star in “Minecraft” to be directed by Jared Hess of “Napoleon Dynamite” fame.

    Minecraft, a product of the Swedish studio Mojang, debuted in 2011 and allows players to use blocks to create structures and worlds.

    The game became a sensation, reaching 100 million users just a few years after launch and helping spark Microsoft to acquire Mojang for USD 2.5 billion in 2014.

    “Dune” producer Mary Parent and Roy Lee will produce the upcoming movie, with Jill Messick receiving a posthumous producing credit for developing the film before her death in 2018.

    Executive producers include Jon Berg, Cale Boyter and Jon Spaihts.CLydia Winters and Vu Bui of Mojang will also produce the film.

    Warner Studios has been developing a project based on the game for years, with Shawn Levy and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” star Rob McElhenney among those who have been attached to direct.

    Momoa will next reprise his role in “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom”, the sequel to the 2018 film “Aquaman”, slated to be released in March 2023.

    In the late 2010’s, the actor gained prominence following his performance as Khal Drogo in the first two seasons of “Game of Thrones”, a fantasy drama series from HBO, a premium cable network under WarnerMedia.

  • Jason Momoa to lead ‘Chief of War’ series for Apple TV+

    LOS ANGELES: “Aquaman” star Jason Momoa is set to headline “Chief of War”, a limited series that has been greenlit by the streamer Apple TV+.

    The streaming platform has given a straight-to-series order to the show, which Momoa has also penned making it his writing debut for television.

    According to Deadline, “Chief of War” follows the epic and unprecedented telling of the unification and colonisation of Hawaii from an indigenous point of view.

    Momoa, whose father is of Native Hawaiian ancestry, has also created and executive produced the eight-episode series with Thomas Pa’a Sibbett.

    Justin Chon, known for co-directing the currently on-air Apple series “Pachinko” with Kogonada, is in negotiations to helm the first two episodes of “Chief of War”.

    Executive producers on the series also include Francis Lawrence, Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, Erik Holmberg and Doug Jung, who serves as showrunner too.

    The show comes from Endeavor Content and Chernin Entertainment.

    Momoa’s previous writing credits include films that he also directed, such as “Brown Bag Diaries: Ridin’ the Blinds in B Minor”, a short, and “Road To Paloma”.

    The “Game of Thrones” alum is also credited as co-story writer on the upcoming “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom”, which will see him reprise the role of Arthur Curry/ Aquaman.

    Momoa currently stars in Apple’s post-apocalyptic drama series “See”, which has been renewed for a third season.

  • Jason Momoa to play villain in Fast & Furious 10

    Actor Jason Momoa has revealed that he will be playing an antagonist in the upcoming Fast & Furious 10. He disclosed the information dueing the red carpet of The Batman. He was recently seen in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune and is famous for his role in Aquaman and Game of Thrones.

    Fast 10, a working title expected to change, is rumoured to be the last film in the franchise. It is expected to feature the return of stars including Vin Diesel, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Sung Kang, Michelle Rodriguez, and Charlize Theron. But, Dwayne Johnson and John Cena, who appeared in F9, have not confirmed their participation.

    Production of the film is expected to begin this spring with Justin Lin returning to direct it.  Writer Chris Morgan, who has penned the previous instalments, returns to pen the script for the final chapter.

    Fast 10 is expected to hit theatres on May 19, 2023. While Momoa’s upcoming Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set to premiere on December 16, 2022.

    WASHINGTON: Warner Bros has recently unveiled the first-look footage from Jason Momoa-starrer upcoming superhero film ‘Aquaman and the Lost City’.

    The studio took to their official Instagram handle to share a video clip, providing glimpses to their upcoming lineup of highly-anticipated superhero films including ‘The Flash’ and Dwayne Johnson’s ‘Black Adam’.

    In the compilation video titled ‘The World Needs Heroes,’ the ‘Aquaman’ sequel footage is the shortest of the bunch, with brief shots of star Jason Momoa in front of ancient ruins and on the Atlantean throne.

    “What could be greater than a king? A Hero” Momoa says, an audio clip lifted from 2018’s ‘Aquaman’.

    The studio also provided a first look glimpse at Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate in the upcoming ‘Black Adam’, as well as a glimpse of the rest of the ‘Justice Society of America’: Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo), Hawkman (Aldis Hodge) and Cyclone (Quintessa Swindel). The film is headlined by Dwayne Johnson who is playing Black Adam that is slated to release on July 29, 2022.

    Ezra Miller’s look in his new speedy superhero suit for his long-awaited ‘The Flash’ stand-alone film was also notable in the video.

    The studio first has ‘The Batman’ starring Robert Pattinson that is slated to release in theatres on March 4; then, ‘Black Adam’ which will debut on July 29; ‘The Flash’, which is coming on November 4. And finally, ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ will open in theatres on December 16.

    WASHINGTON: Universal Pictures never fail to impress their fans! This time they are adding ‘Aquaman’ star Jason Momoa to play a key role in the upcoming part of Vin Diesel lead ‘Fast and Furious’ film series.

    As per The Hollywood Reporter, Momoa is in final negotiations to join the cast of what is being called ‘Fast and Furious 10’ as a working title.

    Reports suggest the plot details are being muffled and the ‘Aquaman’ actor could be one of the film’s villains.

    Justin Lin, who returned to the franchise with 2021’s ‘F9: The Fast Saga,’ is back to don the director’s hat. Longtime stars Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges and Sung Kang are also returning for the 10th installment.

    Charlize Theron, who first appeared in the eighth film, ‘The Fate of the Furious,’ and returned for F9, is also expected to be back.

    Diesel and Lin are producing the 10th installment.

    The search for a new star began after Dwayne Johnson refused to return to the franchise, despite Diesel’s plea for him to come back after skipping F9.

    However, because the script is still a work in progress, it is unclear whether Momoa’s part is protagonist or antagonistic in nature, or perhaps even both.

    It is unclear who else would return for Fast 10 which shoots this spring. Universal currently has the movie set for a May 19, 2023, release.

  • Jason Momoa, Lisa Bonet end relationship after five years of marriage

    WASHINGTON: American actors Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet are parting ways. The couple announced their decision to split in a joint statement posted on Momoa’s Instagram. “We have all felt the squeeze and changes of these transformational times… A revolution is unfolding and our family is of no exception… feeling and growing from the seismic shifts occurring,” the joint statement read.

    The statement continued, “And so we share our Family news that we are parting ways in marriage. We share this not because we think it’s newsworthy but so that as we go about our lives we may do so with dignity and honesty. The love between us carries on, evolving in ways it wishes to be known and lived. We free each other to be who we are learning to become.”

    The statement concluded, “Our devotion unwavering to this sacred life our children. Teaching our children what’s possible. Living the Prayer. May Love Prevail J & L.”

    Along with the announcement, Momoa shared several photos in his post, including one of a sunset sky, one of a person holding a baby bird and wearing a shirt that reads “May my soul shout love”, and another close-up of the hands holding the young bird.

    As per People magazine, the couple started dating in 2005 after being introduced by mutual friends at a jazz club. During an appearance on ‘The Late Late Show with James Corden’, Momoa spoke about his first date with Bonet, saying, “We just happened to be in the right place at the right time.”

    “I actually had dreaded my hair for her. I had dreadlocks, she had dreadlocks. I literally turned around and I see her and she goes, ‘I’m Lisa.’ I turned around to my friend and I [pretended to scream]. I had f–ing fireworks going off inside, man,” he said at the time.

    “I convinced her to take me home, because I was living in a hotel,” he added. The two ended up sharing a meal at Cafe 101, where Momoa said they hit it off.”We sat down, she ordered a Guinness, and that was it,” he added. “I beyond love Guinness. We had Guinness and grits, and the rest is history.”

    In July 2007, the pair had their first child, Lola, and welcomed their second child, Nakoa-Wolf, in December 2008. Bonet is also mom to Zoe Kravitz (33) whom she shares with her ex-husband Lenny Kravitz.

    Though it was initially believed that Momoa and Bonet married in November 2007, the couple later wed in October 2017. Meanwhile, on the work front for Momoa, he will be next seen in ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ directed by James Wan.

  • Jason Momoa says he tested positive for COVID-19 after London premiere of ‘Dune’

    LOS ANGELES: Actor Jason Momoa, who recently tested positive for coronavirus, has said he is doing fine and currently isolating at his home.

    On Tuesday, the 42-year-old actor took to his Instagram Stories and revealed that he tested positive for COVID-19 “right after” attending the London premiere of his latest film “Dune”.

    “I got hit with Covid right after the premiere. There’s a lot of people I met in England. So, I got a lot of aloha from people, and who knows,” Momoa said.

    “Either way I’m doing fine, thank you for your concerns and love and I’m just camped out in my house but I have some really cool stuff that’s coming out,” he added.

    Momoa said that he is isolating with his “roommate”, skateboarder Erik Ellington.

    In another post, the actor posted a video, showing Ellington doing tricks on his skateboard through the house.

    “Everyone wants to know how COVID is going, it’s going pretty good. Yeah, we’re having a ball,” Momoa said.

    The actor recently featured in filmmaker Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi epic “Dune”, which released worldwide in October.

    He will be next seen in “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom”, which will be released in December 2022.

  • Jason Momoa reveals sustaining multiple injuries during ‘Aquaman 2’ shoot

    WASHINGTON: It’s not at all easy for actor Jason Momoa to shoot ‘Aquaman 2’ as he suffered multiple injuries on the sets. During the latest episode of ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’, Jason opened up about the injuries, reported Fox News.

    “I’m getting old…I messed up my eyes. I just got something in it that kinda cut it up, and then I’ve gotta get surgery, I have a hernia, I’ve got ribs out. I’m just getting beat up,” he shared.

    Jason is no stranger to injuring himself. He had earlier revealed that he once broke his femur and injured his face, leaving a scar. Reportedly, he was also hit by a stuntman while filming ‘Braven’ in 2018.
