Marking a somber milestone, US and Japanese envoys in India commemorated the first anniversary of the Pahalgam massacre, vowing continued backing for New Delhi’s anti-terror efforts. The April 22, 2025, incident shocked the nation when gunmen ruthlessly executed 26 civilians after religious profiling in the popular tourist spot.

Ambassador Sergio Gor of the United States described the attack as ‘extremely cruel,’ detailing how TRF militants, linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba, targeted tourists and a brave local operator. ‘We honor the innocent souls lost in Pahalgam and stand shoulder-to-shoulder with India against terror,’ Gor stated on social media, resonating with grieving families.

Japan’s envoy, Ono Keiichi, joined the chorus of condemnation. His message emphasized Tokyo’s firm stance: ‘Remembering the victims of the Pahalgam attack one year on. Japan denounces terrorism in all forms and commits to peace alongside India.’

The brutality was chilling: attackers forced religious recitations to isolate non-Muslims, killing 25 visitors—many honeymooners—and one rescuer. This offshoot of Pakistan-based terror networks exposed deep vulnerabilities in the region.

In retaliation, Operation Sindoor saw Indian forces deliver measured blows to terror hideouts across the border on May 6-7. The operation crippled enemy setups in Pakistan and PoK, sending a clear message of India’s resolute defense posture without escalating tensions.

These diplomatic gestures amid military resolve paint a picture of strengthened alliances. The anniversary not only mourns the fallen but reinforces global unity in combating the scourge of terrorism that threatens peace everywhere.
