  • Airfield security review in Jammu: IAF officer urges people to promptly report any suspicious activities

    JAMMU: A top Indian Air Force officer on Saturday underlined the need to maintain strict vigil to ensure airfield security and urged people to provide timely information on any suspicious activities, according to a defence spokesperson.

    Air Officer Commanding (AOC), Air Force Station Jammu, Air Commodore G S Bhullar said this while chairing an airfield security review meeting here, the spokesperson said.

    Village heads from areas in the immediate vicinity of the Jammu airfield, officials of concerned civic agencies and key officials of the Airport Authority of India attended the meeting at the Air Force Station here.

    Addressing the meeting, the AOC highlighted the need for exercising strict vigil to prevent any untoward incidents and check any suspicious activities or drone sightings, and requested the stakeholders to promptly report them, the spokesperson said.

    He also expressed concern over rampant garbage dumping around the Jammu airport and how it is contributing to heightened bird activity which might lead to aircraft accidents.

    The officer urged all village heads and civic agencies to take steps to educate people in their areas about better waste segregation and disposal.

    Garbage disposal in important areas in the vicinity of the Jammu airfield was also highlighted during the meeting, the spokesperson said.

  • Jammu and Kashmir govt to handover 122 acres of land to AAI to build new airport terminal at Jammu

    JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir administration will soon hand over 122 acres of land to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to build a state-of-the-art 25,000 square metre new terminal building at the airport here, officials said.

    Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Raghav Langer informed about the development during a meeting to review the progress on demarcation of land for the new terminal, they said.

    The 122 acres or 974 kanal of land has already been identified, the officials said, adding that it will soon be handed over to the AAI to build the terminal.

    The runway at the Jammu airport has been expanded and the 30 per cent load penalty has been removed.

    It will bring huge relief to airlines and passengers, the officials said.

    The divisional commissioner also directed the animal husbandry department to immediately shift its animals and its office buildings to other locations as over 100 acres of its land has been identified for the expansion of the Jammu airport, they said.

    The Jammu deputy commissioner has been asked to demarcate the land and handover the same to airport authorities so that work can begin.

    The deputy commissioner informed that land at Nagrota has already been allotted to the animal husbandry department for relocation of offices and poultry.

    The divisional commissioner also reviewed the alignment of the Delhi-Katra expressway stretch from Satwari to Fourth Bridge.

    The expressway will be constructed from Delhi to Katra via Kunjwani and Satwari Chowk to Bhagwati Nagar Fourth Bridge to link it with the Jammu Akhnoor road project, they said.

  • Twin explosions at IAF station in Jammu airport terror attack: J-K DGP Dilbag Singh

    JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Dilbag Singh on Sunday termed the twin explosions at the high security Indian Air Force station in the Jammu airport a terror attack.

    The police, IAF and other agencies were investigating the attack, he said.

    Two IAF personnel were injured when two explosives-laden drones crashed into the station around 1.40 am.

    The blasts took place within six minutes of each other.

    The first blast ripped off the roof of a single-storey building at the technical area of the airport manned by the IAF in Satwari area of the city.

    The second one was on the ground, officials said.

  • Two explosions rock Indian Air Force station in Jammu; probe underway

    SRINAGAR: Two explosions, within a gap of five minutes, rocked the heavily guarded Indian Air Force station in Jammu in the early hours of Sunday, officials said.

    Without specifying how the explosions occurred, it said one of the blasts caused minor damage to the roof of a building while another exploded in an open area.

    The first blast is reported to have taken place at 1:37 am and the second one was at around 1:42 am.

    “There is no injury to any personnel or any damage to any equipment. Investigation is on and further details are awaited,” a defence spokesperson said.

    The police officials and forensic experts immediately rushed to the spot to ascertain the cause and nature of the explosions.

    “Investigation is in progress along with civil agencies,” stated the official Twitter handle of the Indian Air Force.

    The area was sealed by security forces within minutes.

    Jammu airport is a civil airport with the runway and the ATC under the IAF.

  • Two explosions rock technical area of Jammu airport

    JAMMU: Two explosions within a gap of five minutes rocked the high security technical area of Jammu airport in the early hours of Sunday, officials said.

    The explosions took place around 1.45 am.

    The first blast ripped off the roof of a building and the second one was on the ground.

    There were no immediate reports of any casualties.

    The area was sealed by security forces within minutes, the officials said.

    Senior officials, police and forensic experts rushed to the scene.

    There is no official word on it as of now.

    Further details are awaited.
