He also submitted some pictures in support of his petition.

  • Nadda slams Congress for its philosophy of ‘no mission but commission’

    By PTI
NEW DELHI: Taking a swipe at the Congress, BJP president J P Nadda claimed on Monday that its philosophy has been “no mission but commission” while his party has been synonymous with nationalism.

Speaking at an event on the 22nd anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas to pay homage to the soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in the war, he lauded the measures taken by the Modi government to protect India’s defence interests and hit out at the Congress for “believing” in the policy of “no decision is the best decision”.

“Whenever it is about a deal in the national interest, the Congress’ philosophy is no mission but commission. The modernization of Indian military had stalled during the Congress-led UPA government but now we have advanced very rapidly in that direction,” Nadda said.

By launching air and surgical strikes against Pakistan-based terrorists, India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has shown that “India means business, business, business,” he added.

Nadda claimed that the army used to wait for the government’s approval to retaliate against the enemy’s action earlier but it has now been given a free hand by the Modi dispensation.

While defence has nothing to do with politics but people should realise which party and leaders give paramount importance to it, he added.

Paying rich tributes to the fallen soldiers, he said it is a day to rededicate ourselves to honouring them.

He also cited the Modi government’s implementation of the “one rank, one pension” scheme for veterans to laud its commitment to the forces’ welfare.

    By PTI
PANAJI: BJP president J P Nadda on Sunday termed as baseless the Pegasus snooping allegations, and hit out at the opposition parties over it saying that there was no issue left with them.

He also said that although the Centre was ready to hold talks over different issues, the “disappointed” and “issueless” opposition parties led by Congress were disrupting the proceedings of Parliament.

Nadda was speaking to reporters here at the end of his two-day Goa visit.

Replying to a question over the Pegasus snooping row, he said, “It is baseless. It is issueless. The opposition parties led by the Congress do not have any issue which they want to raise for people. That is why they raise this kind of issue.”

However, the government has been denying all Opposition allegations in the matter.

Speaking about frequent disruptions of the parliamentary proceedings, Nadda said, “We are ready for all types of discussion, but Congress along with other opposition parties, has become disappointed and issueless and hence resorts to such disruptions. They do not know what to do. They want to stop Parliament over issueless things.”

“But people know that despite all their efforts, the productivity of Parliament has broken all the records under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, the business has broken all the records,” he added.

    By PTI
NEW DELHI: Top BJP leaders and Union ministers, including party president J P Nadda, Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh, held a meeting to discuss matters related to the upcoming Monsoon session of Parliament and frame the party’s strategy to counter the opposition, sources said.

The meeting was held at Union Minister Rajnath Singh’s residence, they said.

The Monsoon session of Parliament, which is scheduled to start from July 19, will be the first session after the second wave of COVID-19, which was far more worse than the first.

The opposition is expected to rake up this issue and launch a scathing attack on the government.

Union ministers Dharmendra Pradhan, Bhupender Yadav and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and ministers of state Arjun Ram Meghwal and V Muraleedharan, among others, were present in the meeting.

Besides them, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi also attended the meet.

  • Dust off inertia: Modi’s message to his ministers ahead of Cabinet reshuffle

    Express News Service
NEW DELHI:  Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday presided over a marathon meeting with his Council of Ministers, dropping hints that a Cabinet reshuffle is round the corner and that non-performers may be eased out.

While the PM asked his ministerial colleagues to make the vaccination drive a resounding success, it is reliably learnt the ministers were told some of them were not seen doing enough in their respective spheres.

The meeting was seen part of the exercise at the level of the PM to review the performances of the ministries with his senior Cabinet colleagues during which BJP chief J P Nadda was present.

It is also learnt that the ministers were asked for better coordination with the BJP, with a few leaders singling out lack of team work for the “excessive negative buildup of perception against the government during the pandemic”.

“The meeting also gave a sense that Modi wants the governance to be seen in tune with business as usual after a long spell of the Covid9 shadow. The government is confident of the success of the vaccination drive, but the focus also needs to return on other aspects of the governance,” a source added.

That the PM is holding a number of review meetings point to the urgency at the top level for return to normalcy in governance for setting the mood ahead of the 2024 polls, sources added.

    By PTI
NEW DELHI: Preparation for the assembly polls in five states early next year was the main agenda of a meeting of senior BJP leaders, including several Union ministers, on Saturday as they deliberated on political and governance issues linked to these states.

Party president J P Nadda and Union ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nirmala Sitharaman, Narendra Singh Tomar, Smriti Irani, Piyush Goyal and Dharmendra Pradhan were among those who attended the meeting, party leaders said.

“Preparation for the assembly polls in five states was the main agenda of the meeting,” a party leader said after the meeting.

Union ministers Pralhad Joshi, Mansukh Mandaviya and Hardeep Singh Puri, besides BJP general secretary Bhupender Yadav and its vice president Baijyant Jay Panda also attended the meeting.

Assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Manipur and Goa are slated for early next year.

The BJP is in power in all these states except Punjab, and has been holding a series of meetings of its senior leaders as it works to put up an impressive show in the next round of elections.

In the meeting, party leaders also took stock of various development works going on in these states as the BJP leadership has often stressed on the need for coordination among different ministries and the party organisation in an effort to factor in the feedback, sources said.

Uttar Pradesh is especially crucial to the BJP’s political fortunes as the party has been the dominant power in the country’s most populous state since Prime Minister Narendra Modi led it to power at the Centre in 2014.

The ruling party leaders have been holding deliberations for weeks over a number of political and governance issues.

  • ‘Congress misleading people, will be remembered for duplicity and pettiness’: Nadda hits out at Sonia

    By PTI
NEW DELHI: BJP president J P Nadda on Tuesday accused the Congress of misleading people and creating false panic in the fight against COVID-19, and alleged that the conduct of its leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, during the pandemic will be remembered for “duplicity and pettiness”.

Nadda wrote a four-page letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, a day after the Congress Working Committee, the apex body of the opposition party, hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government over the handling of the coronavirus crisis.

The BJP president also accused Congress leaders, including a chief minister, of trying to actively create vaccine hesitancy during the “once-in-a-century” pandemic.

Lauding the work of healthcare personnel, he said, “You must ask yourselves – in times as these, is your party’s (Congress) conduct weakening the morale of these COVID-warriors? Deliberately or otherwise, are your actions trying to weaken this fight against COVID-19? Deliberately or otherwise, are your actions trying to weaken this fight against COVID-19?” Under Modi, the fight against the pandemic is driven by unwavering belief in science, support to innovation, trust in COVID warriors and cooperative federalism, he said.

Nadda said he is saddened but not surprised by the conduct of the Congress during these challenging times.

The CWC had said that Modi must “atone for his mistakes” and serve the people instead of carrying on with his “personal agenda” oblivious to the sufferings all around.

The BJP president also hit back over the criticism of his party for holding big poll rallies in April even as COVID cases surged across the nation and also of the ongoing construction of the Central Vista project.

The Congress is doing no favours to itself by opposing lockdowns and then demanding it, he said, accusing it of “ignoring” the Centre’s advisories on the second wave of COVID-19.

Congress leaders, he said, held massive election rallies in Kerala causing a spike in the COVID cases and are now “grandstanding” about poll rallies elsewhere.

“Even when the second wave was on the rise, your party leaders were happier being seen in super spreader political events in north India, where there was no regard for masks or social distancing. This is not the era when such information can be erased from public memory,” he said.

Hitting back at the Congress over the CWC criticism that the Centre had abdicated its responsibility on the vaccination and left the matter to states, Nadda wondered if there is so much gap between the party and its leaders in power in some states as he noted that its top functionaries in April had called for decentralisation of the inoculation programme.

The Centre has so far distributed 16 crore vaccines to states and 50 per cent of them are being provided even now free of cost, he said, and asked Gandhi if the states where her party is in power will also give free jabs to people as those ruled by the BJP and its allies have done.

The Modi government has engaged with all stakeholders, including chief Ministers, in fighting the pandemic and former prime minister Deve Gowda has also acknowledged that, he said.

The poor have been Modi’s priority with the Centre ensuring food and DBT (direct benefit transfer) distribution, he said.

While acknowledging that a few Congress members are doing commendable work in helping people like other several other selfless citizens, Nadda said their hardwork gets eclipsed by the consistent negativity spread by the more senior members of the opposition party.

“One would wish that while India is fighting COVID+19 with utmost courage, the top echelons of the Congress would stop misleading people, creating false panic and even contradicting their stands just based on political considerations,” he said.

With the Congress blaming the BJP government for mishandling the crisis, Nadda wrote to Gandhi, “There are other aspects that also need greater thought. For instance, the data from February and March would reveal which states failed to track the rising cases. Why are mortality rates in states such as Punjab so high? These are questions you must ask your own Chief Ministers.”

Defending the ongoing Central Vista project, he said there is a “new trend” in the Congress to put all the blame on this.

The need for a new Parliament building was raised during the Congress-led UPA time with the then Speaker Meira Kumar underscoring the need for this, he said, noting that Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has addressed queries regarding it.

“Yet, the Congress does not believe in facts. People are also contrasting the Congress’ stand on Central Vista with the Chhattisgarh Government going ahead to build a new assembly complex,” Nadda added.

  • Nadda vows to ‘save’ people of Bengal from chain of political violence

    By PTI
KOLKATA: BJP president J P Nadda on Wednesday took a symbolic oath here to protect democracy and “save the people of West Bengal from the cycle of political violence”.

Nadda, who had attended a dharna near a Gandhi statue in the central part of the city on Tuesday, said his party will ensure that the entire country gets to know about the widespread violence unleashed in the state following the declaration of assembly poll results.

“I will be visiting districts such as North 24 Parganas to be on the side of our members who were at the receiving end of this brutality. We want to tell the entire country about this,” Nadda said at a programme organised by the saffron camp at its Hastings office here.

The BJP has claimed that at least six of its workers and supporters, including a woman, were killed in attacks allegedly perpetrated by the TMC following its victory in the assembly elections.

  • Post-poll violence in Bengal reminiscent of Partition days: Nadda hits out at Mamata

    By PTI
KOLKATA:  BJP president J P Nadda on Tuesday said the widespread post-poll violence in West Bengal is reminiscent of the atrocities people had to face during the country’s Partition, and exhorted party workers in the state to democratically fight the “savagery”.

Nadda, who arrived on a two-day visit to Bengal, said BJP workers across India have expressed solidarity with their activists in the state, who are “facing violent attacks”.

“We are committed to democratically fight this ideological battle and the activities of the TMC, which is full of intolerance,” he told reporters at the NSC Bose International Airport here.

“I had heard of the immense atrocities committed during the Partition, but I have never seen such post-poll violence that is occurring in West Bengal after the declaration of election results (on May 2),” the senior BJP leader said.

Nadda said he will visit the residences of BJP workers “killed” in attacks in South 24 Parganas district and speak to their kin, assuring them that justice will prevail.

“We want to give this message that crores of BJP workers across the country are with them. We will not leave any stone unturned to establish the rule of law in Bengal,” he said.

The BJP has claimed at least six of its workers and supporters, including a woman, were killed in violence allegedly unleased by the Trinamool Congress following its victory in the assembly elections.

Later in the day, after visiting the house of a BJP worker who was reportedly attacked at Sonarpur in South 24 Parganas district, Nadda claimed that none of the persons accused of attacking BJP workers have yet been arrested by police.

“This shows the state of law and order in the state,” he said.

Alleging that two women were gangraped and 11 people killed in the last few days, Nadda said under the chief ministership of Mamata Banerjee, women have faced the most atrocities in Bengal.

“Instead of acting against all this, she has once again started her policies of appeasement, extortion and dictatorship,” Nadda said.
