Kabul airport attacker was in India, claims ISIS
Express News Service
KOZHIKODE: Islamic State (IS) has claimed that the suicide bomber who killed around 180 people at the Kabul airport on August 26 was arrested in Delhi five years ago and was deported to Afghanistan after being imprisoned for five years.
He is suspected to be an Afghan national. The new edition of the IS magazine Voice of Hind said: “By the grace of Allah, a soldier of the Khilafah, Abdur Rahman al-Logri, carried out an istishadhi (suicide attack) operation. The brother was arrested five years ago in India, when he had travelled to Delhi to carry out an istishadhi operation on the cow-worshipping Hindus in revenge for Kashmir.”
“But Allah had decreed otherwise, the brother was tested with imprisonment and was deported to Afghanistan. Staying true to his promise to Allah, the brother didn’t go home, rather carried out his operation, his heart filled with tranquility and pleasure,” it said.
IS says its soldiers will attack Taliban
The magazine’s 20th edition did not say anything about the operation in Delhi or how and when he was arrested. The National Investigation Agency had arrested three persons from Kashmir two months ago for circulating Voice of Hind, a digital magazine brought out by Ansarul Khilafa Al Hind, the IS module in India.
Referring to the Taliban’s resolve to finish off the IS, the magazine said: “These deviated Sufis (Taliban) along with their Mullahs have threatened to eliminate the Khilafah. The soldiers of Allah are more than prepared for them and soon they will see Allah’s punishment. The brothers who escaped along with Abdur Rahman al Logri are waiting for their opportunity.”
It may be recalled the IS had claimed Malayalis were involved in two attacks in Afghanistan. An Nabha, another IS magazine, had said Muhammad Mohsin from Kasaragod was the suicide bomber who attacked gurudwara in Kabul on March 25, 2020. The terror outfit had also claimed another Malayali was among those who attacked the prison in Jalalabad on August 2, 2020.

NIA has arrested 168 people in terror cases linked to Islamic State so far, 27 accused convicted
By PTI
NEW DELHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) said on Friday that it has so far arrested 168 people in 37 cases of terror attacks, conspiracy and funding which have been inspired by the Islamic State (IS) ideology in the country.
It said charge sheets have been filed in 31 of the cases, the most recent of which was registered in June, and that 27 accused have been convicted after trial.
“Investigation by the NIA has revealed that IS (Islamic State) is trying to spread its tentacles in India through continuous propaganda online. Gullible youths are targeted on open social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram,” a spokesperson of the agency said.
The NIA said once a person shows interest he or she is then enticed to communicate with online handlers based abroad using encrypted social media platforms.
“Depending on the gullibility of the person, the handlers then use the person for uploading online content, translation of IS texts to local language, conspiracy, preparation of a module, collection of arms and ammunition, preparation of improvised explosive devices (IEDs), terror funding and even attacks,” the spokesperson said.
The NIA appealed to the public to bring into its notice any such activity on the internet.

MUMBAI: The Bombay High Court on Friday granted bail to a 28-year-old man, arrested for allegedly being a member of the banned terror outfit – Islamic State (ISIS).
A division bench of Justices S S Shinde and N J Jamadar allowed the petition filed by Iqbal Ahmed Kabir Ahmed challenging an order of a special court refusing bail to him.
“The order passed by the special court is quashed. The appellant (Ahmed) shall be released on bail upon furnishing a bond of Rs one lakh and one or two solvent sureties of the same amount,” the bench said.

Ahmed was arrested on August 7, 2016 and booked under the stringent provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for being part of a terror outfit and under the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The prosecution’s case was that Ahmed was part of the ISIS’s ‘Parbhani module’, who were purportedly planning to carry out a terror attack on the office of the Superintendent of Police in Parbhani.
Ahmed’s advocate Mihir Desai had argued that there was no evidence against the petitioner and that the trial in the case is yet to commence and there are over 150 witnesses to be examined.

ISIS module: Six arrested after NIA raids 7 locations in Kashmir
Express News Service
SRINAGAR: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday raided seven locations in Kashmir in a case regarding online radicalisation by Islamic State in India and arrested six suspects, including the head of a Darul Uloom (Islamic seminary). The NIA team accompanied by police and paramilitary personnel did simultaneous raids in Srinagar and Anantnag in south Kashmir. The case was registered by NIA on June 29 under IPC and UAPA in connection with the conspiracy of the ISIS to radicalise and recruit youth to wage violent jihad against the Indian state, an NIA officer said, adding that an organised campaign was launched on the cyber space which is supplemented by on ground terror financing activities.
Sources said the NIA raided the Darul Uloom at Nawab Bazar area in downtown Srinagar. “During the search of the Darul Uloom, NIA seized a laptop and some office records. They also arrested the head of the Darul Uloom.” During the raids at Pushroo, Sunsooma, and Achabal in Anantnag district, the NIA sleuths arrested six persons including a garment dealer, a chemist, a laboratory technician, two shopkeepers and the Darul Uloom head.
An NIA spokesperson said the multiple raids led to confiscation of incriminating documents and digital devices. The spokesperson added ISIS militants operating from various conflict zones along with those in India, by assuming pseudo-online identities, have created a network wherein ISIS-related propaganda material is disseminated for radicalising and recruiting new members.
“In this connection an India-centric online propaganda magazine ‘the Voice of Hind’ is published on monthly basis with an aim to incite and radicalise impressionable youth by projecting a skewed narrative to arouse a feeling of alienation and communal hatred,” the spokesperson said. The NIA raids took place a day after the J&K government sacked 11 government employees, including two sons of Hizbul chief Syed Salahuddin, for their alleged involvement in anti-national activities.

IS militants abduct five people in Sinai, say Egyptian officials
By Associated Press
EL-ARISH: At least five Egyptians were abducted by Islamic State militants on Tuesday in the restive northern part of the Sinai Peninsula, security officials said. The five were driving to their workplace in the small town of Bir al-Abed when the militants from the Islamic State group stopped their vehicle and took them to an unknown place.
The five include three engineers, a labourer and their driver, said the officials.
They all work at the el-Salam canal project that moves the Nile Delta drainage water to be reused in agriculture in the peninsula.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.
The two security officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media.
Egypt has been battling militants, now led by the Islamic State group, in the northern part of Sinai for years.
Violence and instability there intensified after the 2013 military’s ouster of Egypt’s elected but divisive Islamist president, Mohammed Morsi, amid nationwide protests against his year in power.
IS has carried out numerous attacks, mainly targeting Egyptian security forces, the country’s minority Christians and those whom the militants accuse of collaborating with the military and police.
They have also kidnapped people, mostly Christians and Bedouins, sometimes for ransom.
Though the pace of IS attacks in Sinai has slowed to a trickle since February 2018, when the military launched a massive operation in Sinai that also encompassed parts of the Nile Delta and the desert along the country’s western border with Libya, abductions, and kidnappings still occasionally happen.
