  • IPL 2024: Know All About Shamar Joseph Who Quit Job Of Security Guard To Become Cricketer | cricket news

Shamar Joseph, once a newcomer to the first-class cricket scene, has swiftly ascended to become a cricketing sensation in the West Indies. His remarkable performance in Brisbane, despite battling injury, has propelled him into the spotlight, with accolades pouring in from cricketing luminaries worldwide.

Former South African great AB de Villiers took to social media to praise Joseph’s fairy-tale journey, urging fans to read about his life on Wikipedia. De Villiers described Joseph’s story as inspirational, noting that it moved him to tears.

Here’s a condensed account of Shamar Joseph’s extraordinary journey to cricket stardom in five key points:

Originating from the secluded maroon village of Baracara in Guyana, Shamar Joseph, aged 24, grew up in a community of around 400 people. Situated two hours away by boat from the nearest city, New Amsterdam, the village only gained access to the internet in 2018.

In his childhood, cricket was a staple pastime in Baracara, alongside dominoes. With no formal cricket grounds, Joseph and his friends improvised, playing in makeshift areas around their homes, earning them the moniker “jungle-land cricket.”

Resources were scarce in Baracara, and cricket equipment was a luxury. Instead of traditional gear, Joseph and his peers used makeshift balls crafted from fruits or melted plastic from bottles when supplies ran low.

Overcoming parental resistance, Joseph pursued his cricketing aspirations. His parents, adhering to religious practices, initially discouraged his involvement in the sport, insisting on dedicating Saturdays to church activities. Joseph began training full-time only after reaching adulthood.

Seeking better opportunities, Joseph relocated to New Amsterdam, where he juggled long hours of guard duty and construction work to support himself. Despite the challenges, he persevered, eventually leaving his job to pursue a career in cricket, buoyed by the support of his family.

Joseph’s journey from the remote village of Baracara to cricketing stardom serves as a testament to his resilience, determination, and unwavering passion for the sport.

  • Big Blow for RCB As Rs 17.5 Crore Signing Tested Positive For Covid-19 Ahead Of IPL 2024 | cricket news

In a significant development, Australian all-rounder Cameron Green, along with Australia’s head coach Andrew McDonald, has tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of the pink-ball Test against West Indies at the Gabba in Brisbane. The news comes as a setback for the Australian cricket team, as both Green and McDonald will be separated from the squad until they return a negative test.

Cricket Australia stated, “Cameron Green and Andrew McDonald will be separated from the group until they return a negative test. It will not hinder Green taking part in or McDonald attending the match in line with CA protocols.”

    — Mufaddal Vohra (@mufaddal_vohra) January 24, 2024

Despite the positive tests, both Green and McDonald could still be involved in the Test against West Indies if they return negative results in the next 24 hours, following Cricket Australia’s protocols. The situation is being closely monitored as the Australian team prepares for the crucial pink-ball Test scheduled for January 25.

Meanwhile, in the IPL context, this development poses a potential challenge for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), who traded in Cameron Green from Mumbai Indians for a whopping Rs 17.5 crore ahead of the IPL 2024 auction.

RCB Director of Cricket, Mo Babat, had previously hailed the move, stating, “We have got a strong core of retaining players, and we have got a very powerful top order. Part of the decision-making that we had around our player release. The decisions were to try and strengthen the middle order, and bringing Cameron Green was a fantastic move.”

However, with Green testing positive for COVID-19 and the uncertainty surrounding his participation in the upcoming matches, RCB might face a considerable setback. If Green fails to recover in time for the IPL 2024, it could impact RCB’s middle-order dynamics, a key area the franchise aimed to strengthen with the acquisition of the talented Australian all-rounder.

It’s worth noting that Cameron Green’s health has been a concern beyond the recent COVID-19 diagnosis. He had previously revealed that he is battling irreversible chronic kidney disease. Despite being in stage two, Green has managed the condition well throughout his career. However, the unpredictable nature of his health poses an additional challenge for both the Australian team and his IPL franchise.

As the situation unfolds, both the Australian cricket team and RCB will be closely monitoring Cameron Green’s health, hoping for a speedy recovery and his availability for the upcoming matches. The IPL 2024 auction has already taken place, but the impact of Green’s potential absence will only become clearer as the tournament approaches.

RCB could retain just 3 players ahead of auction and they decided to let Chahal go, their only good leg-spinner. Chahal was not even told about this decision by the franchise, had revealed in a podcast. Fair to say, the relationship between Chahal and RCN did not end on a bright note. Chahal has played two seasons now for Royals and has done well for them.

It will be interesting to see how the likes of Fad du Plessis and Virat Kohli, current and former captain of RCB, react to Chahal’s reaction. Chahal is a good friend of du Plessis and very close to Kohli. RCB’s reaction would also be interesting to see here.

One thing is for sure that Chahal has not forgotten the ‘disrespect’ he felt after not receiving the kind word from the franchise during his time of exit. It is also important to note that Chahal did not mock any RCB player but his comment made in fun was targeted towards the planning of the franchise for the IPL 2024 Auction.
