Love triumphed over legal hurdles in Aurangabad, Bihar, where a jilted lover turned bridegroom on the spot after his release on bail. Vipul Kumar, fresh out of jail, chose the court complex temple for his marriage to long-time partner Gunja Kumari, brushing aside any thoughts of returning home first.

Their romance unfolded against the backdrop of rural Bihar. Frequent visits to his aunt’s house in Gambhirdih introduced Vipul to Gunja, igniting a passionate affair. Inter-caste barriers and familial opposition forced them to flee to a distant state, where they welcomed a baby into the world.

Fate took a dark turn when Vipul deserted Gunja, prompting her family to involve the law. Police tracked him down, leading to his incarceration for eight long months. Bail brought relief, but reconciliation was key. Through a village-style panchayat orchestrated by counsels, families reconciled, paving the way for matrimony.

The ceremony, held in the sacred confines of the district court’s temple, was a poignant affair. Vipul and Gunja, surrounded by loved ones, committed to each other forever. This heartfelt union underscores the resilience of love amid adversity, offering hope to many facing similar struggles. Locals are abuzz with tales of this ‘bail-to-bridal’ story, a testament to second chances.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of a report concerning the social ostracization of a tribal family in Odisha’s Rayagada district following an inter-caste marriage. The NHRC has requested a comprehensive report from the state government. The villagers reportedly demanded a purification ritual, including head shaving, if the woman’s family, belonging to the Scheduled Tribe (ST), wished to be reintegrated into the community. Refusal, they were warned, would lead to an indefinite boycott. The NHRC, noting potential human rights violations, has issued a notice to the Chief Secretary, demanding a detailed report within two weeks. The family, including at least 40 members, underwent the ritual, as reported. The incident occurred in Baiganaguda village under Gorakhpur panchayat of Kashipur block on June 19. The ritual involved animal sacrifices before the local deity. The woman, a member of the Scheduled Tribe, had recently married a man from the Scheduled Caste (SC) category, despite local opposition. A community meeting mandated the purification ritual to ‘atone’ for the marriage. Following a video’s viral spread on social media, the district administration initiated an investigation.
