Former US President Donald Trump has become a subject of global discussion. His decisions continue to draw attention. Trump has now targeted Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan amidst a tariff dispute, demanding his immediate resignation. Trump has also levied serious accusations against Tan.

The controversy between Trump and Tan is linked to China. This is because Trump has targeted his former business partner. Following Trump’s statement, Intel’s shares experienced a significant decline, posing a new challenge for the company.

In April, Reuters reported that Intel CEO Tan had invested at least $200 million in hundreds of Chinese chip companies, some of which were connected to the Chinese military. Following this revelation, former US President Donald Trump demanded the immediate resignation of new Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan on Thursday. He labeled Tan as “highly controversial” due to his connections with Chinese companies. Trump’s comment came one day after the Reuters report.

Tan is accused of making these investments between March 2012 and December 2024. According to reports, many of these companies are believed to have ties with the Chinese military and advanced manufacturing sectors. This is why Trump has called Tan controversial and demanded his resignation.

The US President’s statement and media reports have directly impacted the share market. Intel’s shares saw a sharp decline after Trump’s statement, presenting a new challenge for the company. The shares fell by nearly 3 percent by the end of trading.

Intel appointed Malaysian-born American technology executive Lip-Bu Tan as its new CEO in March 2025. He is also the founder and chairman of Walden International. Prior to joining Intel, Tan served as the CEO of Cadence Design Systems from 2009 to 2021. Tan has worked with several major technology companies, including Hewlett Packard Enterprise and Schneider Electric.

Intel is discontinuing its automotive processor division, leading to significant layoffs within that segment. This strategic shift is part of a broader initiative to streamline operations and concentrate resources on core businesses, including client computing and data centers. The decision was communicated internally, signaling a complete wind-down of the automotive vertical. Intel has stated its commitment to fulfilling existing commitments in the automotive sector before fully exiting the market. While the exact number of affected employees remains undisclosed, the impact is expected to be substantial. Despite this pullback, Intel retains a majority stake in Mobileye, its self-driving technology subsidiary, which is currently unaffected by these changes. Furthermore, the company is implementing additional cost-cutting measures, including outsourcing marketing and potential layoffs in manufacturing, under the direction of the new CEO.
