A deepening food crisis in Pakistan is casting a long shadow over public health and economic recovery efforts. With a significant portion of the population facing acute food insecurity, the nation teeters on the brink of a humanitarian disaster. Climate calamities, particularly monsoon floods, have annihilated wheat and rice harvests. This natural devastation collided with economic pressures like currency devaluation and import dependencies, making staples unaffordable. The human toll is heartbreaking, with surging cases of severe acute malnutrition among children in rural areas. Policymakers are responding with emergency measures, but true progress demands investment in storage infrastructure.

In an unexpected turn of events, President Donald Trump and New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani held a remarkably amicable meeting at the White House. Despite past sharp criticisms from both sides, the discussion centered on shared priorities: tackling housing affordability, reducing the cost of living, and combating inflation. Trump expressed optimism about Mamdani’s potential, hinting at federal cooperation, while Mamdani highlighted the constructive dialogue and a unified commitment to New Yorkers’ well-being. The meeting focused on practical solutions, aiming to ease the financial burdens faced by residents of the nation’s largest city. Trump’s positive remarks suggested a potential shift in his stance, recognizing common ground on critical economic issues that resonate deeply with the electorate. This surprising convergence underscores the possibility of bipartisan collaboration even among political rivals facing significant public challenges.

Purchasing a car in Pakistan is a significant financial undertaking, a stark contrast to the affordability seen in India. While cars are within reach for many middle-class families in India, the same vehicles are sold at significantly inflated prices in Pakistan. A prime example is the Maruti Suzuki WagonR. In India, the starting price is approximately ₹4.98 lakh, whereas in Pakistan, the same car sells for around ₹32.14 lakh. Similarly, the popular hatchback Suzuki Alto starts at just ₹3.50 lakh in India, but costs over ₹23.31 lakh in Pakistan. This price difference is so substantial that one could purchase a mid-size SUV in India for the same amount. The exorbitant prices in Pakistan make car ownership a considerable economic burden for its citizens.

The President of the Pradesh Congress Communication Department, Sushil Anand Shukla, stated that the Modi government has modified two GST slabs after devastating the country’s trade and industry and increasing inflation. The 28% and 12% slabs have been removed, but a new 40% slab has been added to the GST. Rahul Gandhi had previously stated that the GST would have to be withdrawn, and now his words have come true. The irregular GST imposed by the Modi government was a ‘Gabbar Singh Tax’ for the public, and further changes are needed in the GST. The 5% and 18% GST rates on daily consumable items are too high. The Modi government took a U-turn on the GST, which was introduced on July 1, 2017, with a faulty tax system, calling it an economic freedom. The Congress’s initial criticisms of the entire process have been proven correct.

Fuxing Yuan, a major cemetery operator and funeral service provider in China, has experienced a loss, marking the first such instance in a decade. The company, based in Shanghai, reported a loss of 261 million yuan (36.6 million USD) in the first six months of the year, a significant shift from its previous financial performance. This downturn is attributed to economic challenges, including inflation and reduced consumer spending. Revenue for the company decreased significantly, with a notable decline in revenue from burial services, including land sales, and funeral services. The company cites external challenges, including a cautious approach to post-mortem expenses by consumers and increased competition within the industry, as key factors contributing to the loss. The aging population in China, which previously fueled double-digit growth for the company, now faces pressures. The company is also facing challenges related to economic slowdown, property market decline, and uncertain employment prospects. In response to government efforts to encourage domestic spending, retail sales have shown modest growth, and the adoption of environmentally friendly and affordable burial options, such as scattering ashes at sea or in flower beds, has gained traction. The average selling price of burial plots has also decreased.

Senior Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, is leading a ‘Vote Adhikar Yatra’ (Vote Rights Journey) in Bihar before the upcoming elections, alleging…

Senior Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, is leading a ‘Vote Adhikar Yatra’ (Vote Rights Journey) in Bihar before the upcoming elections, alleging vote theft. He is joined by RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, CPI(ML) leader Dipankar Bhattacharya, and other leaders of the INDIA alliance. During the ‘Vote Adhikar Yatra’, Rahul Gandhi is strongly criticizing the BJP government and the Nitish Kumar government.

On Thursday, Nitish Kumar posted on social media platform X, posing a direct question: “I want to ask you all a direct question – Can a government formed by stealing votes ever intend to serve the public? Absolutely not!”

He stated that they do not need people’s votes, so they don’t care about their problems. He highlighted the current situation: record-breaking unemployment is ruining the future of the youth, and the government keeps filling the coffers of capitalists.

He further stated that scams like NEET, SSC, and paper leaks have ruined the careers of lakhs of students, with the government turning a blind eye.

Rahul Gandhi highlighted that inflation is soaring, making it difficult for the common person to live. Yet, the government continues to increase taxes.

He also claimed that hundreds of innocent people died untimely due to rail accidents and the collapse of infrastructure like roads and bridges, but the government didn’t even fix accountability.

He added that from Poonch to Manipur, incidents of terror and violence have occurred, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of people, and the government hasn’t taken responsibility.

He said that demonetization, COVID, and the farmers’ movement took the lives of lakhs of people. The Prime Minister did not offer help, nor did he show sympathy. Why? Because this government was not chosen by the people; it was formed by stealing votes.

He stated that whether people live, die, or suffer, it doesn’t matter to the government. They are confident that whether the people vote or not, they will return to power through theft.

Rahul Gandhi said a clean voter list is the foundation of free and fair elections. He urged people not to let go of their right to vote, as all their rights rest on this foundation. He called for people to choose their government – a government that truly belongs to them, takes responsibility for them, and is accountable to them. He appealed to protect Bharat Mata (Mother India) and the country’s constitution with their vote.

The number of Russians residing in Turkey has significantly decreased, with the population nearly halving in the past two years. In 2023, approximately 154,000 Russians lived in Turkey, but by 2025, this number had fallen to around 85,000. This information was provided by the Russian-supporting newspaper Izvestia, citing the Russian embassy in Ankara.

Following Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, many Russians initially moved to Turkey. However, they are now leaving or relocating to other countries. Some are returning to Russia, while others are moving to Serbia, Portugal, Spain, or Georgia. Several factors have contributed to this shift.

Iran is set to remove four zeros from its currency, the rial, in a move approved by the Economic Commission of Iran’s Parliament. This plan aims to combat persistent inflation and streamline financial transactions. The new currency will retain the name ‘rial,’ with one unit equaling 10,000 of the current rials, further divided into 100 gherans. The primary goal is to simplify everyday financial calculations and reduce the need to express large numbers in millions or billions. For instance, an exchange rate of 920,000 rials per U.S. dollar would become 92 new rials per dollar, making calculations less complex. The redenomination also seeks to lower the costs associated with printing banknotes. This decision comes amid economic challenges and currency devaluation, particularly following U.S. sanctions in 2018 after the collapse of the nuclear agreement.

Heavy rainfall has wreaked havoc on vegetable crops in Chhattisgarh, leading to a significant surge in prices. Approximately one thousand hectares of vegetable farms have been affected, with crops like tomatoes, okra, gourds, and cucumbers perishing due to the incessant downpour. This has drastically reduced the supply in local markets, causing prices to escalate. The impact is being felt by consumers as the cost of essential vegetables, especially tomatoes, has seen a sharp rise. Retail prices for tomatoes have reached 50 to 60 rupees per kilogram, while other vegetables are also significantly more expensive.

The situation is further compounded by the fact that local tomato supplies have dwindled. Tomatoes are now being sourced from Bangalore, adding to the cost. Wholesale prices have reached 600 to 650 rupees per crate, a stark contrast to the 250 to 300 rupees per crate just ten days prior. This price increase affects not only tomatoes but all vegetables, with many now being sourced from states like Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat. The wholesale prices of most vegetables range from 30 to 60 rupees per kilogram, with retail prices between 40 and 80 rupees per kilogram.
