  • West Bengal reports 840 new dengue cases

    KOLKATA: Dengue cases in West Bengal continued to rise with the state health department reporting 840 new infections on Monday.

    Health officials and doctors urged people to be cautious and take preventive measures like not allowing water to accumulate and using mosquito nets, among others.

    The new cases were detected after testing 7,682 samples, the health department said. At present, 541 patients are admitted at government hospitals with the disease.

    Most of the cases have been reported from North 24 Parganas, Howrah, Kolkata, Hooghly, Murshidabad, South 24 Parganas, Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling districts.

    NEW DELHI: India saw a single-day rise of 4,417 new coronavirus infections, the lowest in last three months, taking the tally of Covid-19 cases to 4,44,66,862, according to the Union health ministry data updated on Tuesday.

    Active Covid cases have further declined to 52,336, while the death toll has climbed to 5,28,030 with 23 fatalities, including one death reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am showed.

    India had reported 3,714 new cases in a span of 24 hours on June 6. Active cases comprises 0.12 per cent of the total infections while the national Covid-19 recovery rate has increased to 98.69 per cent, the health ministry said.

    A decline of 1,638 cases has been recorded in the active Covid-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

    The daily positivity rate was recorded at 1.20 per cent while the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 2.06 per cent, according to the health ministry.

    The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,38,86,496, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.19 per cent.

    According to the ministry, 213.72 crore doses of Covid vaccines have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide Covid-19 vaccination drive.

  • Wuhan COVID-19 Cases May Have Been 10 Times Higher Than Reported, CDC Study Reveals

    The number of COVID-19 cases in Wuhan, where the virus is believed to have originated, may have been 10 times higher than what was actually reported, as per China’s Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Chinese authorities have reported 50,000 infections in Wuhan since the outbreak began in December 2019, however, a study by the public health officials in the country suggest that the number may have been as high as 5,00,000.

    According to Bloomberg, the Chinese CDC had conducted a serological study in April, the data for which was released on December 27. According to the study, around 4.4 percent of the 34,000 people surveyed in Wuhan tested positive for antibodies, indicating that they might have contracted COVID-19 at some point during the outbreak. This would mean that the original number of people infected in the city must be higher than reported.

     With 44,878 new COVID-19 infections reported in the last 24 hours, India’s total cases surged to 87,28,795, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) said on Friday.

    With 547 new deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the toll has mounted to 1,28,688.

    The total number of active cases in the country stands at 4,84,547 after a decrease of 4,747 in the last 24 hours. Total cured cases are 81,15,580 with 49,079 new discharges in the last 24 hours.

    According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a total of 12,31,01,739 samples have been tested for COVID-19 up to 12th November, of these 11,39,230 samples were tested yesterday.

    Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan on Wednesday said that India’s COVID-19 response approach has been pre-emptive, proactive and graded, keeping in mind the large population of the country.

  • 19 infections in 24 hrs, India’s COVID-19 tally reaches 86,36,012

    With 44,281 new COVID-19 infections reported in the last 24 hours, India’s total coronavirus cases surged to 86,36,012, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) said on Wednesday.

    With 512 new deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the toll mounted to 1,27,571.

    The total number of active COVID-19 cases are 4,94,657 after a decrease of 6,557 in the last 24 hours. Total cured cases are 80,13,784 with 50,326 new discharges in the last 24 hours

    Maharashtra has reported 93,400 active cases, 15,88,091 recoveries and 45,435 deaths due to the disease so far while Karnataka recorded 31,082 active cases, 8,08,700 recoveries and 11,430 deaths so far.

    The national capital reported 41,385 active cases and 7,143 deaths while 4,02,854 people recovered from the infection till now.

    Kerala reported 78,812 active cases, 4,15,158 recoveries and the death toll stands at 1,742 according to the Health Ministry. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a total of 12,07,69,151 samples have been tested for coronavirus till November 10, of these, 11,53,294 samples were tested yesterday.

    Meanwhile, MoHFW has said that “India has scaled an unprecedented peak as the active COVID-19 cases have dropped below the 5-lakh mark for the first time after 106 days”

  • India’s COVID-19 active cases dips below 6 per cent of the total cases: Health Ministry

    India’s COVID-19 active cases have fallen below 6 per cent of the total cases, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Tuesday.

    In a tweet, the Health Ministry said, “Demonstrating a landmark achievement, India’s Active Cases have fallen below 6% of the Total Cases. The Recovered Cases have leaped past 92% of the cumulative cases.”

    In another tweet, it said, “Calibrated and effective strategy of the Centre focused on high levels of testing for early identification combined with timely tracing, isolation and hospitalisation for the severe cases have resulted in a manageable number of active cases and continuously rising number of recoveries.”

    On Monday, Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan held a virtual meeting with Health Ministers of Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Punjab, Rajasthan, Telangana, and West Bengal to review the COVID-19 situation.

    With 45,903 new COVID-19 infections reported in the last 24 hours, India’s total cases surged to 85,53,657, the MoHFW said on Monday.

    With 490 new deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the death toll has mounted to 1,26,611.

    The total number of active cases stands at 5,09,673 in the last 24 hours while the total cured cases are at 79,17,373.

    Telangana recorded 1,416 fresh COVID-19 cases, 1,579 recoveries and 5 deaths on 31st October, taking total cases to 2,40,048 including 2,20,466 recoveries, 1,341 deaths and 18,241 active cases, according to the State Health Department, Govt of Telangana.
