NEW DELHI: Members of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) took out a candle march here in the memory of the farmers who died during the almost year-long agitation demanding the rollback of the three contentious farm laws.

The candle march that was started at the IYC office ended at Jantar Mantar.

It took place after Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday announced the repealing of the Centre’s three farm laws in the upcoming winter session of Parliament.

Srinivas BV, president of the IYC, said “many conspiracies were hatched to ruin, humiliate the farmers, but in the end the truth came out victorious”.

“Today we pay our tributes to the farmers who were martyred in the farmers’ movement. Once again it became clear that truth can be disturbed, not defeated. The country cannot forget the conspiracy that was hatched against the farmers and the conspiracy under which they were humiliated. The country will remember all — martyrdom and also BJP brutality. Jai Kisan, Jai Hindustan. Salute to the martyrdom of farmers,” Srinivas was quoted as saying in a statement.

The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella body of 40 farmer unions spearheading the agitation against the new farm laws, claims that nearly 700 farmers have been martyred in the struggle against the laws.

The candle march saw participation by several Youth Congress workers, including national general secretary and Delhi incharge Bhaiya Pawar, national media incharge Rahul Rao and national secretary and Delhi co-incharge Khushboo Sharma.

  • Indian Youth Congress stages protest against National Monetisation Pipeline

    By PTI

NEW DELHI: The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) held a protest on Thursday against the National Monetisation Pipeline (NMP), and alleged that the Centre is “selling everything to its friends”.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had on August 23 announced the Rs 6 lakh crore NMP that will look to unlock value in infrastructure assets across sectors ranging from power to road and railways.

The IYC protest was held near Shastri Bhawan.

Terming the NMP the “National Mitigation Scheme”, IYC national president Srinivas BV alleged that the government is keeping the interest of the countrymen at bay and “doing good only for itself and its friends”.

“Those who had vowed that I would not let the country be sold, they are selling everything to their friends one by one under the ‘National Mitigation Scheme’.

“Road, rail, airport, electricity, gas, petrol, mines, stadium, warehouse, everything is being sold,” Srinivas alleged in the statement.

The “sell policy” of the central government will prove to be harmful for the country, he alleged.

IYC national general secretary Bhaiya Pawar, national secretary Mohit Choudhary and Delhi Pradesh Youth Congress president Ranvijay Singh Lochav were among those who took part in the protest.

  • Youth Congress chief Srinivas urges Centre to remove GST on Covid-19 drugs

    By Express News Service
SHIVAMOGGA: Indian Youth Congress national president B V Srinivas urged the Centre to remove Goods and Services Tax (GST) on all drugs meant for the treatment of COVID-19 patients. He questioned the levy of GST on the drugs at a time when the people are short of money.

Srinivas told reporters here on Friday that India is the one of the biggest manufacturers of vaccines for COVID-19. “Unfortunately, there is unavailability of vaccines for our people. The vaccine produced here is being exported to other countries. The government is negligent towards the health of the people,” he alleged.

The IYC president said that the second wave of COVID-19 has shaken India badly and that the third wave is beginning to spread. “Still, the government is not serious about it. The government should immediately discuss preventive measures with experts. We should be ready to face the third wave,” he said.

He said that Congress is committed to serving the public and hence it is distributing food to people across the country.

When asked about him being lauded across the country for supplying oxygen, medicines and arranging beds for COVID-19 patients, Srinivas said that it was party leader Rahul Gandhi who was his inspiration. “Gandhi had held a meeting with us on March 1 last year and had asked us to come to the rescue of people. We are working as per his direction,” he said.

IYC national secretary D M Sandeep said that BJP MP Tejasvi Surya should learn from Srinivas in managing the COVID crisis. Srinivas distributed food kits, isolation kits and immunity boosters to people and flagged off ambulance services called ‘Congress Cares’ on the occasion.

  • COVID-19: Congress launches medical advisory helpline ‘Hello Doctor’

    By PTI
NEW DELHI: The Congress on Saturday started a new initiative — plasma collection drive — with its leader Rahul Gandhi launching a medical advisory helpline aimed at helping those battling with COVID-19.

“India needs to stand together and help our people. We have launched ‘Hello Doctor’ a medical advisory helpline. Please call +919983836838 for medical advice,” Gandhi said on Twitter while launching the doctor helpline.

“Dear Dr’s and mental health professionals, we need your help. Please enroll on,” he said sharing the “Hello Doctor” helpline link and urging doctors to join the battle against the coronavirus and help those in need.

Later, the Indian Youth Congress launched a new initiative ‘Plasma Help link’, whereby those recovered from COVID-19 would be contacted by the IYC and their plasma collected.

Srinivas BV, president of the Congress’s youth wing, said this is for the first time in India’s history that “rather than the government, it is the opposition which is reaching out to the people”.

He said people recovered from COVID-19 can register themselves with the helpline and donate plasma.

The helpline will soon be linked to the Congress help centres being set up at party headquarters and at state offices, which in turn will help people in need of plasma.

AICC spokesperson Pawan Khera said the initiative will come to the aid of those in need of plasma.

He said it will help those in need irrespective of their political leanings or belief.

Congress secretary Pranav Jha said the hallmark of any government is to be able to help its people when they need it, irrespective of whether they are their supporters or opponents.

He said people in need of help are tagging “Congress party frontline workers, youth leaders, their social media handles”.

“Congress party knows how to serve those who are in need because it’s in our legacy. We know how to do it! We open that one door when all others have shut. We reach the unreachable. And we do it all without seeking any credit,” he said.
