In a significant step for the Indian diaspora, the Consulate General of India in Toronto activated the One Stop Centre for Women (OSCW) this week. Aimed at empowering Indian women across Canada, it provides comprehensive assistance for a spectrum of distresses, including legal battles, financial hardships, and emotional turmoil.

Acting Consul General Kapidhwaj Pratap Singh explained to Radio Canada International that cultural hurdles often prevent women from seeking help from local organizations. OSCW breaks these barriers, offering a trusted bridge to essential services.

From domestic abuse and dowry harassment to exploitation and family conflicts, the center covers it all. Singh noted, “Visitors, workers, students, and permanent residents of Indian origin can all access this support.”

Just days after its December 26 launch, more than a dozen women have contacted the center with varied concerns. Services include immediate counseling, legal advice, psychosocial care, and links to Canadian social services—all within legal bounds.

Financial assistance is also on the table, making this a true one-stop solution. The initiative not only aids individuals but also contributes to a more secure, inclusive society for women in the diaspora. Early feedback suggests it’s already making a tangible difference.
