A scathing report from Washington reveals how Pakistan is cloaking its harsh control tactics in Gilgit-Baltistan behind a veil of religious rhetoric. Analyst Senge Sering contends that this ploy distracts from efforts to dismantle local culture and exploit the region’s mineral wealth and strategic location.

Regional dynamics add urgency: a full-scale Iran-Arab war could endanger Pakistan’s Shia population, positioning integration with India as a viable escape from outdated partition ideologies for Gilgit-Baltistan’s people.

The Karakoram Highway faces unprecedented threats beyond natural disasters, fueled by local volatility. Post the killing of Iran’s supreme leader, riots engulfed Gilgit and Skardu, spiraling out of control.

March 1 saw Pakistani troops shoot into crowds, claiming 18 lives – eight of them children. Curfews followed amid reports of protesters killing two soldiers and setting fire to army assets.

Security forces are raiding homes at night, detaining suspects linked to alleged Iranian religious groups, even as Ramadan unfolds. Secret detention centers hold those who challenge authority or rally support.

High-profile detainees include advocates Ehsan Ali and Nafis, engineer Mahboob, and activists Fida Issar, Taruf Abbas, Sheikh Yusuf, Nazar Kazmi, and Shabbir Mayar.

This crackdown suppresses growing dissent, as Pakistan juggles expectations from the US and Saudi Arabia for anti-Iran military backing. Intelligence sharing and media campaigns demonize Tehran, while narratives twist India-Iran ties and inflame Hindu hatred at home to serve broader aims.

The report underscores a region teetering on the edge, where religious manipulation masks deeper power plays with implications for South Asian stability.

In a bold display of regional assertiveness gone awry, Pakistan’s air force launched strikes into Afghanistan on Sunday, prompting immediate backlash from India. The operation, conducted amid Ramadan observances, killed at least 17 people—predominantly civilians—and left six unaccounted for, according to Afghan reports.

Speaking to the press, India’s official MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal minced no words: ‘This irresponsible act by Pakistan during the holy month of Ramadan is strongly condemned by India.’ He linked the strikes to Islamabad’s chronic inability to address its domestic security woes, accusing it of exporting instability.

Pakistan defended the pre-dawn raids as a necessary counter-terrorism measure, with Information Minister Attaullah Tarar stating on X that intelligence pinpointed seven TTP camps in border regions of Nangarhar and Paktika. Yet, the human cost has overshadowed these claims.

Afghanistan’s Taliban-led administration was quick to retaliate verbally. Spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid shared graphic accounts online: ‘Dozens of our civilians, women, and children were martyred and wounded in the bombings.’ This has spiked tensions, threatening fragile border peace.

New Delhi, a key stakeholder in Afghan stability, reaffirmed its commitment to Kabul’s sovereignty and unity. The episode highlights persistent fault lines: Pakistan’s fight against TTP spills over, while India views it as emblematic of broader Pakistani adventurism.

With both sides digging in, analysts warn of a volatile spiral. India’s stance serves as a diplomatic signal, urging restraint and multilateral dialogue to prevent wider fallout in South Asia’s tinderbox.

In the wake of intense social media backlash, Mohammad Aamir remains steadfast in his evaluation of rising Indian star Abhishek Sharma. The ex-Pakistan pacer labeled the opener a mere ‘slugger’ during a TV appearance, sparking outrage among fans who hailed the youngster’s explosive T20 exploits.

‘That’s my view – he’s a slugger. Without the ability to read the line or defend solidly, is he a full-fledged batsman? He goes after every ball with power swings, and it’s paying off now. But mastering defense against probing lines will change everything,’ Aamir remarked unapologetically.

He emphasized the limitations of Abhishek’s current success. ‘Flat tracks and short boundaries aren’t the ultimate challenge. Send him to swinging conditions in South Africa, New Zealand, or England. Surviving there against seam movement – that’s when we’ll know. Success in those realms, and I’ll acknowledge him as a proper batter first.’

Aamir balanced his critique by praising Indian cricket royalty. ‘No bias here. Virat Kohli remains the best of our era for me. But Abhishek? Still a slugger.’

Sluggers thrive on strength, muscling the ball rather than employing textbook shots.

Abhishek’s T20 record speaks volumes: 1,297 runs in 38 innings from 39 matches, featuring 2 tons and 8 fifties, topped by a 135. His strike rate of 194.45 marks him as a white-ball terror. A recent stomach bug forced him out of the Namibia T20 World Cup game.

As speculation swirls about his availability against Pakistan, Aamir’s comments add fuel to the India-Pak rivalry. Can Abhishek silence his detractors on the global stage? The cricket world watches closely.

A scathing report has dismantled Pakistan’s yearly ‘self-determination’ posturing, arguing it masks the iron-fisted control over Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Gilgit-Baltistan. Released on Thursday, the Eurasia Review analysis insists genuine autonomy is evident in people’s lived experiences, not ritualistic statements from Islamabad.

Pakistan marks January 5 as ‘Right to Self-Determination Day,’ using the occasion to stake false claims on Jammu and Kashmir. Yet, the report highlights how federal overlords in Pakistan dictate every major decision in these territories, rendering local bodies mere puppets.

Suppression is rampant: independence advocates are silenced, journalists operate under suffocating censorship, and constitutional barriers block any meaningful self-rule. Development lags disastrously, with locals enduring neglect while Islamabad prioritizes propaganda.

Meanwhile, India’s Jammu and Kashmir has seen a renaissance since 2019. Infrastructure booms—new highways, rail lines, reliable power grids, upgraded hospitals, and better schools. Tourism’s resurgence has sparked economic vitality, generating employment and boosting local businesses.

Direct cash transfers have streamlined aid, property laws now protect women and the underprivileged, and district elections have empowered communities. High voter participation and rising economic indicators reflect a shift toward normalcy and prosperity.

The report skewers Pakistan’s double standards: clamoring for global intervention in India’s affairs while dodging accountability for its own abuses. It condemns India’s human rights record selectively, ignores its own restrictions on dissent, and criticizes troops while nurturing militants.

As India’s integral territory, Jammu and Kashmir thrives with democratic institutions and constitutional safeguards. Its people, through ballots and bustling markets, vote with their feet for integration, growth, and peace—rejecting Pakistan’s divisive myths that romanticize unrest over real solutions.

Following India’s purchase of oil from Russia, the Trump administration imposed heavy tariffs on India, drawing significant criticism. US strategic affairs expert Ashley J. Tellis suggests that Trump feels betrayed because he did not receive credit for resolving the India-Pakistan dispute in May 2025. In an interview, Tellis highlighted that while policy disagreements regarding India’s Russian oil purchases are possible, the situation may also involve a deeper sense of grievance. Trump, according to Tellis, believes he was denied the recognition he deserved for his role in the India-Pakistan dispute. Tellis also commented that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s attempts to rectify the situation may have exacerbated, rather than alleviated, the tension. The imposition of tariffs on Indian goods, escalating to 50%, and a 25% secondary tariff on oil imports have negatively impacted trade talks between the two countries. The current US tariffs on Indian exports are among the highest, second only to those imposed on Brazil. Tellis observed that Trump’s focus on India stems from his belief that he was not given due credit for his efforts to bring peace between India and Pakistan. China, the largest buyer of Russian oil, imported $62.6 billion worth of Russian oil in 2024, compared to India’s $52.7 billion. Despite this, Trump’s criticism has been disproportionately directed at India, overlooking China’s significant role. Tellis also criticized Trump’s trade advisor, Peter Navarro, asserting that Navarro has damaged relations between Delhi and Washington, forcing India to align with some of America’s adversaries. The US government has strongly reacted to India’s continued purchase of Russian crude oil, arguing that it finances Vladimir Putin’s war against Ukraine, a conflict Trump failed to end despite previously claiming he could do so quickly.

Amidst global trade tensions, particularly regarding tariffs imposed by the US, Pakistan’s Army Chief, Asim Munir, is set to visit the United States. This marks his second trip to the US within two months. General Munir is scheduled to attend the farewell ceremony of CENTCOM Commander General Michael E. Kurilla in Tampa, Florida, where CENTCOM’s headquarters is located. This frequent travel highlights the ongoing military and strategic ties between the two nations. The timing of Munir’s visit is particularly noteworthy, given the recent announcement of additional tariffs on India by the US, and discussions about establishing an oil storage center in Pakistan. During his previous visit in June, Munir met with former US President Donald Trump, where they discussed matters related to the Indo-Pakistani conflict. The meeting included a lunch, and both leaders exchanged words of appreciation. Trump acknowledged Munir’s efforts in preventing conflict, while Munir reportedly suggested Trump should be nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize for averting a potential nuclear war between the South Asian neighbors.

The pain of what happened in Hiroshima 80 years ago is still fresh, and that attack serves as a warning to the world, not just a historical event, highlighting how a single mistake can lead to global devastation. This is especially significant in today’s world, where tensions between some countries are escalating, leading to concerns about a potential Third World War. If such a conflict were to erupt, several nations could resort to nuclear war against their adversaries.

During World War II, the United States dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. Three days later, on August 9, a nuclear attack was launched on Nagasaki. Fortunately, no country has used nuclear weapons since then. However, given current circumstances, there are growing fears of a Third World War. The likelihood of conflict is particularly high between the United States and Russia, South Korea and North Korea, and the United States and China. A survey conducted by YouGov explored the public’s views on the possibility of nuclear war in Europe.

Former US President Donald Trump has again touted his accomplishments, this time focusing on his role in ending international conflicts. He recently reiterated his claim of brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. In a post on Truth Social, Trump responded to criticism from radio host Charlamagne Tha God, asserting that his administration had successfully ended five wars. He cited the 31-year conflict between the Republic of the Congo and Rwanda as an example, alongside the India-Pakistan situation. Trump also criticized Charlamagne’s understanding of his achievements, mentioning his actions regarding Iran’s nuclear capabilities, border security, and the economy. The remarks followed Charlamagne’s comments about the Epstein scandal during an interview with Lara Trump. Trump had previously announced on May 10th that India and Pakistan had agreed to a ‘full and immediate’ ceasefire.

The White House has asserted that former US President Donald Trump should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, citing his role in brokering numerous peace deals and ceasefires across the globe. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt highlighted Trump’s mediation efforts, stating that these agreements, averaging one per month, were instrumental in resolving various conflicts.

Leavitt specifically mentioned Trump’s intervention in the Thailand-Cambodia conflict, where he allegedly facilitated an immediate ceasefire, ending a deadly conflict that had displaced over 300,000 people. She stated that Trump communicated directly with the leaders of both nations, linking trade agreements to the cessation of hostilities. Leavitt further claimed that Trump ended conflicts between Israel and Iran, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and India and Pakistan.

Notably, India has refuted Trump’s claims of ending hostilities between India and Pakistan. Indian officials have maintained that any matters concerning the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir are to be addressed bilaterally between the two countries. Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that no world leader instructed India to halt its operations. Modi recounted a conversation with the US Vice President, in which he was informed of a potential Pakistani attack, to which he responded with a warning of a strong Indian response. The cessation of hostilities between India and Pakistan was agreed upon after a call between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries.
