In a strong show of support, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has endorsed the 2026-27 state budget, calling it a masterstroke for inclusive and self-reliant development. Unveiled by Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy during the ninth session of the assembly on March 16, the budget reflects fiscal discipline amid the challenges of governing a small northeastern state.

During his address in the assembly, Saha lauded the document’s comprehensive approach. ‘Financial prudence is key, and this budget exemplifies it,’ he stated. ‘It’s designed to uplift every societal segment—from youth and women to tribals and minorities—while aligning with PM Modi’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.’

The budget’s inclusivity stands out, with tailored provisions addressing the unique needs of students, employees, pensioners, and marginalized communities. Saha noted its synchronization with the Union Budget, reinforcing national goals of economic self-sufficiency.

Drawing parallels to India’s global economic rise—from 11th to 4th position and eyeing 3rd by 2030—Saha positioned Tripura’s fiscal strategy as integral to this momentum. Key sectors like agriculture, tourism, skill development, and digital infrastructure receive boosted funding, promising job creation and enhanced living standards.

As debates conclude, the budget’s passage appears certain, buoyed by the CM’s full backing. This could mark a pivotal shift for Tripura, driving equitable prosperity and resilience in the face of regional challenges.

In a bold step towards social equity, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has rolled out special financial aid to the state’s most vulnerable populations. The government deposited extra funds…

In a bold step towards social equity, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has rolled out special financial aid to the state’s most vulnerable populations. The government deposited extra funds into the accounts of over 38 lakh beneficiaries, combining regular pensions with a Rs 2,000 relief package.

Taking to X on Tuesday, Stalin celebrated the extension of summer aid—previously lauded under the women’s assistance scheme—to elderly people, widows, elderly transgenders, and the differently-abled. ‘Their aspirations are now a reality,’ he declared, noting the direct bank transfers completed today.

Breaking down the numbers: 29.29 lakh elderly and widows received Rs 3,200 each. Support for disabilities was amplified with Rs 3,500 to 5.92 lakh individuals and Rs 4,000 to 2.58 lakh caregiver families. Fisherfolk, hit by seasonal bans, saw 1.62 lakh families aided with Rs 8,000 apiece.

Nilgiri’s tea growers also gained, as Rs 8.53 crore flowed for green leaf purchases at a guaranteed Rs 2/kg minimum via cooperative channels, benefiting 14,870 farmers.

This multi-pronged initiative arrives as Tamil Nadu balances growth with welfare, ensuring marginalized voices shape policy. Stalin’s pledge rings clear: No citizen will be sidelined in the state’s progress narrative.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai presided over a meeting of the Central Tribal Development Authority in the Korba Collectorate meeting room. Sai announced that the budget for the authority would be increased from 50 crore rupees to 75 crore rupees to enhance the development of the Scheduled Tribes residing in the central region. The meeting marked the first gathering following the reorganization of the authority, focusing on a new approach to tribal welfare and comprehensive development. The government is committed to taking concrete steps for the welfare and overall development of the tribal community, ensuring resources are available for development projects. The Chhattisgarh government has established various tribal development authorities, including those for Bastar, Surguja, and the Central region, along with the Scheduled Caste Development Authority and the Chhattisgarh State Rural and Other Backward Classes Development Authorities, taking significant steps toward inclusive development. These authorities aim to accelerate development work in tribal areas, ensure transparency, and bring public facilities to every village and family. The representation within the authority has been expanded to include Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha MPs, District Panchayat Presidents, and other key representatives. Additionally, two social workers and experts in the field of tribal development have been appointed as members to leverage their experience and expertise. The PM Janman scheme is opening new possibilities in tribal areas. Special emphasis is being given to implementing special schemes for tribal communities in education, health, and livelihoods. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Dharti Aba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan and PM Janman Yojana have opened new avenues for development in Chhattisgarh’s tribal regions, with infrastructure development, including housing, roads, electricity, water, and digital connectivity, being rapidly undertaken.
