  • 4 civilians injured in grenade blast outside Srinagar’s Nishat garden: Police

    SRINAGAR: Four civilians were injured in a low intensity caused by militants grenade attack outside the famed Nishat garden in Srinagar on Sunday evening while a tragedy was averted by timely detection and defusing of a 10-12 Kgs Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in south Kashmir, police said.

    Police in a tweet said there was an incident of grenade throwing in the Nishat area by militants, causing a low-intensity blast.

    The grenade attack took place outside Nishat garden at around 7.30 pm. When the blast took place, lots of people were present in the area.

    In the explosion, four civilians including a three-wheeler driver received minor injuries, a security official said.

    He said they were referred to a nearby hospital, where they were given first aid and discharged.

    Immediately after the grenade attack, police and paramilitary CRPF men rushed to the area and launched a search operation to track down the militants responsible for the grenade attack.

    Meanwhile, police recovered an IED in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

    ”On a specific input of police, an IED weighing about 10-12 Kgs was recovered in the Beihgund area of Tral in Pulwama district,”  a police spokesman said.

    He said the explosive device was defused by experts of the bomb disposal squad.

    The timely detection and defusing of the IED averted a major tragedy, the spokesman said.

  • Maharashtra ATS nabs man from Shirdi for planting IED under Punjab cop’s vehicle

    MUMBAI: The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested a man from Shirdi on Saturday in connection an improvised explosive device (IED) planted under the vehicle of an officer of the Punjab police, an official said.

    In a joint operation with the Punjab police, the ATS conducted a search in Shirdi town of Ahmednagar district and apprehended the accused, identified as Rajendra, in the early hours of the day, he said.

    The arrested accused has been handed over to the team from the Punjab police, the official said.

    Earlier this week, the Punjab police had arrested two people from Delhi in connection with the IED found hidden under the SUV of sub-inspector Dilbagh Singh at Ranjit Avenue locality of Amritsar.

    The Punjab police had sent teams to different states to nab the suspects involved in the crime.

  • Terror plot foiled as security forces destroy improvised explosive device in J-K’s Rajouri

    JAMMU: Security forces detected and destroyed an improvised explosive device planted alongside the Rajouri-Gurdan road early on Saturday, thus foiling a terrorist plot, police said.

    According to a police spokesperson, information was received about some suspicious movement in Gurdan Chawa village on Rajouri-Gurdan road the previous night.

    Joint teams of the police and Army personnel launched a cordon and search operation and found a suspicious object lying on the roadside, he said.

    On inspection, the object turned out to be an IED.

    The bomb squad of the police later took it in their possession and destroyed it following standard operating procedure.

    The police have registered a case and further investigation was underway, the spokesperson said.

  • Two injured in Naxal IED blast in Chhattisgarh

    NARAYANPUR: Two workers were injured when a pressure improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Naxals went off near a pump house in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district on Tuesday, a police official said.

    The incident took place at around 11 am near Khodgaon village under Bharanda police station limits, located around 300 km from the state capital Raipur, he said.

    On Monday night, Naxals had damaged a pump house located in the area that supplies water to a nearby Border Security Force (BSF) camp, Narayanpur Superintendent of Police Girijashankar Jaiswal said.

    To restore the water supply, five workers accompanied by security personnel were heading to the pump house on Tuesday.

    Two of them stepped on a pressure IED connection and it exploded. They received minor injuries, the official said. Those injured were identified as supervisor Aslam Khan, a native of Guntur in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, and plumber Pavan Kumar, a resident of nearby Tadoki village in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district.

    The two men were admitted to the district hospital where their condition was said to be out of danger, he said.

  • IED found in J-K’s Awantipora defused by joint team of police, Army and CRPF

    AWANTIPORA: A joint team of police, Army and the Central Police Reserve Force (CRPF) on Monday defused an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) which was detected in a container approximately 10 litres in capacity, at Panzgam village in Awantipora area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday, informed the police.

    According to the police, based on a specific input regarding presence of IED like material at road side of link road leading from Railway Road Dogri Pora towards village Panzgam, a joint team of Awantipora Police, 55 RR and 185 BN CRPF cordon the area

    During the cordon operation they detected a container approximately 10 litres in capacity containing Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and defused it on the spot, said the police.

    In this regard, a case under relevant provisions of law have been registerd in the Awantipora police station and investigation is underway, the police added.
