The Government of Chhattisgarh has taken several new initiatives in the last two years to increase access to health services, provide quality treatment and provide free screening, treatment and medicines to the needy. The Health Department, under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Bhupesh Baghel, has ensured free access to health facilities through Dr. Khubchand Baghel Health Assistance Scheme, Chief Minister Special Health Assistance Scheme, Chief Minister Haat-Bazar Clinic Scheme and Chief Minister Slum Health Scheme. The needy at the local level are getting quality treatment at the local level only due to continuous upgradation of facilities and resources in medical college hospitals, district hospitals, civil hospitals, community health centers, primary health centers and sub health centers.
Dr. Khubchand Baghel Health Assistance Scheme started in the state from January 1 this year, cashless treatment of priority and Antyodaya ration card holders families up to five lakh rupees. The scheme covers 56 lakh financially vulnerable families. All government hospitals and contracted private hospitals can be treated under this scheme with ration card and another identity card. In the Dr Khabchand Baghel Health Assistance Scheme, other ration card holders families are entitled to treatment up to Rs 50 thousand. In total, about 65 lakh families of the state are under the scheme. So far, three and a quarter lakh patients have been treated under the scheme.
Due to the introduction of chemotherapy and dialysis facility in many district hospitals, treatment of serious diseases is now being done locally. This is saving people time, labor and money to go out for treatment. This facility has proved to be a boon for the people during the transition to the global epidemic corona. The closure of public transport services has saved the lives of specialist health facilities provided at the local level. Currently, free chemotherapy of cancer patients is being done through longevity wards in nine district hospitals of the state. At the same time, free dialysis facility is also being operated in five district hospitals under Jeevan Dhara National Dialysis Program. Both these facilities will be expanded in all district hospitals. Besides providing necessary medical facilities to the citizens by the Health Department, programs related to public health and family welfare are also being implemented seriously. In the year 2019-20, five lakh 85 thousand children have been fully immunized for up to one year. During this period, all vaccines have been ensured to reach 94 percent children of the state. This is the highest coverage of vaccination in the state so far.
Lack of human resources is constantly being overcome through new recruits to strengthen health services. In the last two years, 541 new doctors have been recruited. At the same time 512 MBBS And 132 pg. Contracted doctors have also been posted in government hospitals across the state. Along with this, the recruitment of 2100 regular and 3349 contract officers and employees at various posts in the Health Department is also under process.
