Amid the dust settling from Bihar’s Rajya Sabha election results, Tejashwi Yadav, the fiery young leader of RJD, didn’t mince words. The Opposition Leader asserted that Mahagathbandhan’s defeat stemmed purely from treachery, insisting their win was a done deal otherwise.

In a candid media interaction, Yadav detailed the initial advantage: Mahagathbandhan led by six votes for the fifth seat against NDA’s shortfall. ‘We prefer battle to submission,’ he declared, emphasizing ideological opposition. Bolstering their position, alliances with AIMIM and BSP brought their count to six.

But Yadav accused the BJP of orchestrating horse-trading across states. ‘Their character is defined by cunning, corruption, and abuse of power structures,’ he charged, vowing continued resistance.

NDA swept all five seats with victors including Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Nitin Nabin, Upendra Kushwaha, Ram Nath Thakur, and Shivesh Ram, who won on second preferences after topping first counts. RJD’s Amarendra Dhari Singh fought valiantly but fell short in the fifth seat showdown.

The victory parade for NDA comes with implications: Nitish Kumar’s Rajya Sabha move means relinquishing his CM chair, potentially triggering a power shuffle in the state. Tejashwi’s defiant tone signals that the political warfare in Bihar is far from over, with fresh battles on the horizon.

Tensions are rising within the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) as Odisha gears up for Rajya Sabha elections on March 16. The party has slapped show-cause notices on two MLAs—Chakramani Kanhar (Baliguda-ST) and Naba Kishore Malik (Jaydev-SC)—for repeatedly ignoring summons from Naveen Patnaik. The former CM convened critical strategy sessions at Naveen Niwas from March 13-15, issuing a strict three-line whip.

Chief Whip Pramila Malik’s statement details the breach: the MLAs skipped training and legislative party meetings essential for the polls. BJD is contesting four seats with candidates Santrupti Mishra and Datteshwar Hota, but its strength supports only one victory. To counter cross-voting risks, Patnaik ordered all legislators to remain in the capital.

The notices demand personal appearance by 9 PM on March 15, 2026 (possibly 2024), threatening suspension or worse. This action reflects the party’s proactive discipline drive, with Patnaik stressing the need for vote procedural awareness among MLAs. Accusations fly that BJP is attempting to lure defectors.

Four MLAs total absented themselves: Kanhar, Malik, Manohar Randhari, and Souvik Biswal, prompting internal ripples. Echoing the strategy, Congress has herded its MLAs into a secure Bengaluru resort. BJD’s measures highlight the cutthroat politics of Rajya Sabha battles, where loyalty is paramount.

With elections hours away, this episode reveals the high wire BJD walks—balancing internal cohesion against external pressures. A united front could secure their seat, but any defection might reshape Odisha’s upper house dynamics.

The National Conference (NC) will contest all four upcoming Rajya Sabha seats independently, following the Congress party’s decision not to field a candidate. This move comes as NC leader Omar…

The National Conference (NC) will contest all four upcoming Rajya Sabha seats independently, following the Congress party’s decision not to field a candidate. This move comes as NC leader Omar Abdullah directly accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of engaging in ‘horse-trading’ to secure any seats. Abdullah asserted that the BJP lacks the sufficient legislative strength to win any seats without external support, highlighting their need for 30 votes for the fourth seat compared to their 28 MLAs. He warned that any BJP victory beyond their inherent numbers would be a result of ‘money power, muscle power, or the use of agencies.’ Abdullah suggested that such an outcome would validate concerns raised about the BJP’s actions in the Bihar elections.

These Rajya Sabha elections are anticipated to reveal the true allegiances of legislators, exposing those who covertly support the BJP versus those who genuinely oppose it. Abdullah cautioned that any legislator abstaining or voting in favor of the BJP would be publicly identified. He emphasized that in the past year, only the 18 BJP MLAs have actively supported the party, making these elections a critical test of political alignment. The decision for the NC to contest all seats arose after the Congress, which was initially allocated one seat, opted out despite having a strong chance of winning the fourth. Addressing speculation, Abdullah clarified that his father, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, was not denied a mandate for a Rajya Sabha seat, stating that he voluntarily stepped aside due to health considerations, recognizing his significant leadership status.
