  • ‘Hocus Pocus 2’ to release on Disney plus this Halloween

    WASHINGTON: Producer Adam Shankman has finally unveiled the release date of Disney’s highly-anticipated film ‘Hocus Pocus 2’.

    Taking to his Instagram handle, Shankman took announced that the sequel to Kenny Ortega’s 1993 Disney classic will debut on Disney plus this Halloween.

    “SISTAAAAAHHHHSSS! Aaaaand that’s a WRAP!!! #hocuspocus2 Congratulations to the amazing team @bettemidler @sarahjessicaparker @kathynajimy @567and8 @mrsleshem and the WHOOOOLLLEEEE cast and crew!!! Coming to you #halloween #2022 on @disneyplus,” Shankman wrote.

    In the original Hocus Pocus, a curious youngster named Max (Omri Katz) moved to Salem, where he struggled to fit in before awakening the Sanderson Sisters, a trio of diabolical witches (played by Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy) that were executed in the 17th century.

    As per Deadline, the sequel follows three young women who accidentally bring the Sanderson Sisters back to modern-day Salem. They must then figure out how to stop the child-hungry witches from wreaking havoc on the world.

    Midler, Parker and Najimy will reprise their roles, with Tony Hale, Sam Richardson, Hannah Waddingham, Whitney Peak, Lilia Buckingham, Belissa Escobedo, Doug Jones, Juju Brenner, Froy Gutierrez, Taylor Henderson and Nina Kitchen in the sequel.

    Hocus Pocus 2 is directed by Anne Fletcher, written by Jen D’Angelo, and produced by Walt Disney Pictures.

  • Hannah Waddingham joins ‘Hocus Pocus 2’ cast

    WASHINGTON: Mark your calendars ‘Hocus Pocus’ fans! The Sanderson sisters will be returning soon.

    As per People magazine, Disney+ announced on Halloween that ‘Hocus Pocus 2’ will premiere on the streaming service in Fall 2022.

    Joining the cast of the upcoming sequel are Tony Hale and Hannah Waddingham as well as Sam Richardson, Whitney Peak, Lilia Buckingham, Belissa Escobedo, Doug Jones, Juju Brener, Froy Gutierrez, Taylor Henderson and Nina Kitchen.

    Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy will reprise their roles as Winifred, Sarah and Mary Sanderson, respectively.

    Disney first revealed its plan for a ‘Hocus Pocus’ sequel in December 2020 at the Disney Investors Day event. Adam Shankman was selected to direct the upcoming film.

    In March, Shankman said he felt “incredibly honoured and humbled to be guiding forward these two Disney crown jewel legacies” in an Instagram post confirming the news.

    “My only hope is to honour those who came before me and build something new and exciting, as I desperately try to not let down the fans and enchant the new initiates!” he added.

    Vinessa Shaw, who played Allison in the original film told Entertainment Tonight earlier this month that while she “would love” to join the cast for the sequel but hadn’t “heard anything” from filmmakers. “I know, it’s so disappointing,” Shaw told the outlet.

    She added, “I would love to do the sequel. It would be so much fun. I think there’s just a different storyline with younger people, but why can’t we all come back in some way?”In October 2020, before the sequel was announced, Midler told People magazine that she was pleased with the follow-up film’s direction.

    “They presented us with an outline, and after we picked ourselves up off the floor, because it’s been 27 years, we looked at it and I think all of us agreed that it was pretty great,” the actor said at the time.

  • ‘Hocus Pocus’ sequel in the works at Disney Plus, original cast to return

    LOS ANGELES: Veteran actor Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy are set to come back as Sanderson Sisters — three witches named Winifred, Sarah, and Mary — in the upcoming sequel of the 1993’s Disney classic movie “Hocus Pocus”.

    Disney Studios had been planning to start the work on the sequel of the popular live-action film since 2019, and has finally got the original stars on board for a part two, scheduled to be released on its streaming platform Disney Plus in 2022.

    According to Variety, “The Proposal” filmmaker Anne Fletcher will be directing the movie.

    Adam Shankman, who was previously attached to helm the sequel, will now serve as an executive producer on the project.

    “As heartbroken as I am that I won’t be able to direct my friends Bette, Sarah Jessica and Kathy in what is sure to be nothing short of a major event for Disney Plus due to scheduling conflicts, I couldn’t be more pleased to be handing over the reins to Anne, who has brought so much laughter and joy into people’s lives with her previous work,” Shankman said.

    The filmmaker is currently busy with directing “Disenchanted”, a sequel to the 2007 fairytale comedy “Enchanted” starring Amy Adams.

    “Hocus Pocus”, directed by Kenny Ortega, centred on Sanderson Sisters who were resurrected in Salem, Massachusetts, and are bent on becoming immortal.

    The sequel will see three young women accidentally bring the Sanderson Sisters back to modern-day Salem.

    They must stop the child-hungry witches from causing a new kind of toil and trouble.

    Midler celebrated the news of the sequel on Twitter.

    Lynn Harris is serving as producer on “Hocus Pocus 2”.

    Steven Haft is co-producer Ralph Winter and David Kirschner are on board as executive producers.
