  • Don’t believe there is only one person for everyone: ‘How I Met Your Father’ star Hilary Duff

    By PTI

NEW DELHI: “How I Met Your Father” star Hilary Duff does not believe in the concept of one true love as the actor doubts that there is only “one person for everyone”.

Duff, who sat down for a virtual interview with PTI with co-stars Chris Lowell and Tien Tran, is happy to be returning for a second season of the sitcom.

“I do not believe that there is only one person for everyone. I think that love can exist with many different people, many different times throughout your lifetime. And it will be just as authentic,” the 35-year-old actor said.

The show follows the stories of Sophie (Duff) and her group of friends in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options in Manhattan, New York.

It is the spin-off of classic comedy series “How I Met Your Mother” that run from 2005 to 2014.

For Lowell, who plays Jesse, timing plays an important part in finding love. “To me, the thing that is the biggest factor, as I got older, is timing. I think when you meet someone is so imperative to how it goes. I just can’t believe how much that plays a part,” he said.

Tran agreed and said there is something special when two people decide to share their lives with each other. “I always joke around with my wife and say, ‘do you believe in soulmates?’ And she’s like, ‘no, there’s probably like a thousand people out there that I could be with but I chose you’. We chose each other. And that is what makes it special. And you have to choose that person every day,” the actor-comedian, who essays the character of Ellen, said.

Duff added, “And then you keep making decisions and choices that get you closer together. And then that bonding is like no other relationship that you’ll ever have.”

The second season, which currently streams on Disney+ Hotstar, sees Sophie still figuring out her love life and navigating the 30s with her friends, which also includes Valentina (Francia Raisa), Charlie (Tom Ainsley) and Sid (Suraj Sharma).

Duff said the team felt confident after the season two pickup for the show.

“The confidence of the pickup (for season two), it really just made us go ‘Woo. Okay. We got through that hard hump of figuring out what this looked like and who we are here. And then like, bang, we’re back and we’re back like with a double order and we just got to sit, be confident and comfortable. And that made this season levelled up,” the actor added.

Lowell said even the writers capitalised on the learnings of season one and used that to make the sophomore chapter better. “With season one, it was the first time all of us were getting to know each other. We were learning our own rhythms and how we worked together. And the writers were also doing all of this work trying to learn how best to write for us, our different cadences, what we do that’s funny, what works and what doesn’t. And I think they really took advantage of that in the second season of really knowing that it’s hysterical when I cry. I cry so many times this season. They find all these (moments) and really know what we can do well and how to make us the funniest versions of ourselves. And I think that has been just really fun to explore,” the 38-year-old actor said.

For Tran, returning for season two was nothing short of homecoming. “We got to come back and our cast was the same. Most of our crew had come back too. So we just got to get dropped into almost like our own home and to see all the familiar faces again that made us feel safe and feel comfortable. It only helped us level up. And I trust these two (Duff and Lowell) with my life. I feel so comfortable coming to work every day because it just felt like coming back home,” she said.

One of the highlights of season one was the guest appearance of Cobie Smulders as Robin Scherbatsky from the original series.

And now with season two, the team took it a notch above with the appearance of yet another favourite from the original series — Neil Patrick Harris as the iconic Barney Stinson.

Having Harris on board for a cameo was nothing short of exciting, said Duff.

“First of all, it’s Neil Patrick Harris. He is such a star and he’s so charismatic. He opens his mouth and you’re just like, ‘Oh yeah, you’re you’. I felt really little and small. It was just exciting,” she said.

And to share screen space with Harris was a big moment for Duff, she added.

“I don’t know if I can really put it into words except for just that I’m a big fan of his and getting to have that experience, I mean, we had like four pages of dialogue between us, it was a very big moment in the show. We also were playing people who never met before but it was very funny. And he nails it, he is just good. He’s a talented guy and very handsome,” Duff said.

“How I Met Your Father” is created by Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, previously worked as co-showrunners on “This Is Us” and creators of “Love, Victor”.

  • Nick Carter remembers his ‘baby brother’ Aaron Carter

    By Associated Press

NEW YORK: The day after 34-year-old singer Aaron Carter was found dead at his home in Southern California, Nick Carter, the Backstreet Boys member, remembered his younger brother, saying that despite “a complicated relationship”, his love for him “never ever faded”.

In an Instagram post on Sunday, with photos of the two through the years, Nick Carter said his heart was broken after the death of the youngest of five Carter siblings, whom he called his “baby brother”.

“My heart has been broken today,” wrote Carter.

“Even though my brother and I have had a complicated relationship, my love for him has never ever faded. I have always held onto the hope that he would somehow, someday want to walk a healthy path and eventually find the help that he so desperately needed.”

Deputies responded around 11 am Saturday following reports of a medical emergency at Carter’s home in Lancaster, California. Authorities said a house sitter found a man in the bathtub in the home and resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.

Carter had struggled with substance abuse and mental health.

In 2017, he attended rehab and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and on marijuana charges.

In 2019, Carter said on an episode of the talk show “The Doctors” that he was taking medication for acute anxiety, manic depression and multiple personality disorder.

That same year, Nick and Angel, Aaron’s twin sister, said they filed a restraining order against Aaron.

In September, Carter said he went into rehab for the fifth time in the hopes of regaining custody of his young son, Prince, with his fiance Melanie Martin.

At the time, Prince was under the court-ordered care of Martin’s mother.

“Sometimes we want to blame someone or something for a loss. But the truth is that addiction and mental illness is the real villain here,” Nick Carter wrote in the post.

“I will miss my brother more than anyone will ever know. I love you Chizz, now you get a chance to finally have some peace you could never find here on earth. God, Please take care of my baby brother.”

In 2012, their sister, Leslie Carter, died after falling in the shower in the year 2012 at the age of 25. Authorities said she had suffered an overdose of prescription medication.

Carter once said he felt his family partly blamed him for her death.

Carter, a singer, rapper and actor, opened for the Backstreet Boys tour in 1997, the same year his gold-selling debut self-titled album was released.

He reached triple-platinum status with his sophomore album, 2000’s “Aaron’s Party (Come Get It),” which produced hit singles including the title song and “I Want Candy.”

Carter’s acting credits included the television show “Lizzie McGuire” and an appearance on “Dancing With the Stars.” He starred alongside his brother, Nick, and their siblings BJ, Leslie and Angel Carter on the E! unscripted series “House of Carters” in 2006.

Hilary Duff, who starred in “Lizzie McGuire”, recalled Carter as having an “effervescent” charm, and said her “teenage self” loved him deeply.

“I’m deeply sorry that life was so hard for you and that you had to struggle in front of the whole world,” she wrote on Instagram.

Angel Carter, his twin sister, also responded on social media.

“My funny, sweet Aaron, I have so many memories of you and me, and I promise to cherish them,” she wrote on Instagram.

“I know you’re at peace now. I will carry you with me until the day I die and get to see you again.”

  • Hilary Duff-starrer ‘How I Met Your Father’ announces premiere date

    By ANI

WASHINGTON: Actor Hilary Duff, widely known for playing the lead role in the TV series ‘Lizzie McGuire’, recently joined her ‘How I Met Your Father’ co-stars to announce the show’s premiere date.

On Wednesday, Duff and her co-stars, including Christopher Lowell, Francia Raisa, Tom Ainsley, Tien Tran and Suraj Sharma, in a video announced the highly anticipated series’ premiere date, which is January 18.

But the ‘HIMYF’ cast didn’t just drop the big news willy-nilly, Duff and company drew things out for a full 24 seconds.

Duff took to her Instagram account to share the video and captioned the post, “HOLY CRAP HERE WE COME! @himyfonhulu @franciaraisa @tomasainsley @hanktina @mrchrislowell @surajsharmagram.”

At the start of the clip, the ‘Lizzie McGuire’ alum made a fun callback to the Hulu show’s predecessor, How I Met Your Mother, by noting, “Haaave you heard?”

Suraj jumped in with an Easter egg of his own, adding, “Wait for it!”

As viewers anxiously waited for the news, Francia finally chimed in as the voice of reason, saying, “Oh my gosh, just tell them already.”

The premiere date news follows the casting announcement that ‘Sex and the City’ alum Kim Cattrall will play the future version of Sophie and will serve as the narrator of the show, reported E! News.

Like in ‘HIMYM’, ‘HIMYF’ follows one character, Sophie (Hilary and Kim), as she recounts to her son how she met his father, bringing viewers back to the year 2021 when Sophie and her friends were trying to figure life out.

In addition to the core cast, ‘HIMYF’ features Daniel Augustin, Ashley Reyes and Josh Peck.

‘How I Met Your Mother’ ran on CBS from 2005 to 2014. The pop culture phenomenon starred Josh Radnor (Ted Mosby), Cobie Smulders (Robin Scherbatsky), Neil Patrick Harris (Barney Stinson), Jason Segel (Marshall Erikson) and Alyson Hannigan (Lily Aldrin).

The series followed Radnor’s character Ted Mosby, who tells his children the story of how he met their mother. In its nine-season run, ‘How I Met Your Mother’ earned multiple Emmy wins and Golden Globe recognition.

  • Hilary Duff opens up about her upcoming series ‘How I Met Your Father’

    By PTI
WASHINGTON: Actor Hilary Duff, widely known for playing the lead role in the TV series ‘Lizzie McGuire’, opened up about ‘How I Met Your Father’, which is an upcoming spin-off sequel series of the insanely popular show ‘How I Met Your Mother’.

Speaking for the first time since ‘How I Met Your Father’ was announced, Duff told Variety about her excitement to star in the series, which will stream on Hulu.

“After spending so much time on a show with people you love, it’s always hard to permanently say goodbye,” Duff said about ‘Younger’ wrapping up its seventh-and-final season.

“I’m not ready for it to end,” she said, but noted she is ready for “a job that shoots in L.A!”

Duff was interested in starring in the ‘HIMYM’ sequel, partly because of the female spin the series will take. However, it remains unclear whether the new show will tie into the original sitcom.

‘HIMYF’ is set in the near future where Sophie (Duff) is telling her son the story of how she met his father: a story that catapults back to the year 2021 where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life and how to fall in love, in the age of dating apps and limitless options.

“I’m a fan of Isaac and Elizabeth and was absolutely on board after reading the script for ‘HIMYF,’” Duff said of Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, the ‘This Is Us’ showrunners who will serve as writers and executive producers on ‘How I Met Your Father’.

“I knew I had to be the one to bring Sophie to life and share the female POV to this legendary show,” Duff added, with a nod to the catchphrase from the original series.

Duff shared that she was a fan of the original show. “I’m such a fan of the original cast. They were absolutely seamless and brought me many laughs,” Duff said.

With ‘HIMYF’ given the greenlight, an insider said that it’s unlikely Duff would be able to move forward with the ‘Younger’ spinoff, which has been in development and would focus around her character from the Paramount Plus series, ‘Kelsey Peters’.

While the potential spinoff was in the very early stages, the project was described to Variety as a female “Entourage” that would be set in L.A., and occupy a completely different world than that of ‘Younger’.

Meanwhile, the final season of ‘Younger’ is currently airing with new episodes dropping each Thursday on Paramount Plus. Duff said that the season is her favourite yet.

“I think the writers wrapped everything up nicely,” she said, adding that she is pleased with how her character’s journey ends.

“I love that Kelsey chooses herself, ditches the guys who aren’t good for her and continues on a journey that forces her to take risks,” Duff said, teasing, “The ending especially really got me.”

Duff, who gave birth to a baby girl less than one month ago, was pregnant while filming the seventh season of ‘Younger’, during a global pandemic, nonetheless.

“I was a little worried with the challenges of COVID and my pregnancy, but everything came together,” Duff said.

“I’m all for mask-wearing, but huffing-and-puffing on set in a mask at eight months pregnant was a challenge,” she quipped.

She added, “Fitting into clothes that aren’t made for a pregnant body was not always the most comfortable or fun. And just being freaked out to being exposed to COVID — there are always risks, even though our set was super cautious. I had to quarantine a bunch of times and that was really hard.”

New episodes of ‘Younger’ stream Thursdays on Paramount Plus, and will later be available on TV Land. A premiere date for ‘How I Met Your Father’ has not been announced, at this time.

Duff will produce in addition to starring in ‘HIMYF’, with Adam Londy serving as co-executive producer. 20th Television will produce the new series as it did with the original. Aptaker and Berger are currently under an overall deal at the studio.

‘How I Met Your Mother’ ran on CBS from 2005 to 2014. The pop culture phenomenon starred Josh Radnor (Ted Mosby), Cobie Smulders (Robin Scherbatsky), Neil Patrick Harris (Barney Stinson), Jason Segel (Marshall Erikson) and Alyson Hannigan (Lily Aldrin).

According to an individual with knowledge of the project, it remains unclear if and how the new show will tie into the original.

Expressing her excitement to star in the series, Duff said, “I’ve been incredibly lucky in my career to play some wonderful characters and I’m looking forward to taking on the role of Sophie.”

She added, “As a huge fan of ‘How I Met Your Mother,’ I’m honored and even a little nervous that Carter and Craig would trust me with the sequel of their baby. Isaac and Elizabeth are brilliant, and I can’t wait to work alongside them and all of their genius. Just fangirling over here getting to join the Hulu Originals and 20th families. I realize these are big shoes to fill and I’m excited to slip my 6 1/2 ‘s in there.”

The series brings Duff into the Hulu fold after she unsuccessfully lobbied to move the revival of the Disney Channel series ‘Lizzie McGuire’ to the streamer from Disney Plus.

Variety previously reported that Duff and series creator Terri Minsky wanted to do a more adult-themed version of the show, whereas Disney wanted something more family-friendly.

In addition to her role in ‘Lizzie McGuire’, Duff is known for starring in the critically-acclaimed series ‘Younger’, which started out airing on TV Land before moving to Paramount Plus for its final season.

‘How I Met Your Mother’ ran on CBS from 2005 to 2014. The pop culture phenomenon starred Josh Radnor (Ted Mosby), Cobie Smulders (Robin Scherbatsky), Neil Patrick Harris (Barney Stinson), Jason Segel (Marshall Erikson) and Alyson Hannigan (Lily Aldrin).

Bob Saget provided the voice of the narrator, an older version of Radnor’s character Ted Mosby.

The series followed Radnor’s character Ted Mosby, who tells his children the story of how he met their mother. In its nine-season run, ‘HIMYM’ earned multiple Emmy wins and Golden Globe recognition.

Months before the sitcom’s series finale aired in 2014, a ‘How I Met Your Dad’ spinoff series was announced. Greta Gerwig was signed on to star but CBS ultimately passed on the project.

Two years later, Deadline reported that the series was being renamed to ‘How I Met Your Father’ and getting brand new characters. Aptaker and Berger were additionally tapped to write the show, but the project was later put on hold in 2017.

It’s currently uncertain when ‘How I Met Your Father’ will release on Hulu. Meanwhile, the final season of ‘Younger’ is currently streaming on Paramount+, with the finale slated for June 10. But that may not be the last you see of Duff’s character Kelsey Peters from the series. Show creator Darren Star is in the process of developing a spinoff series.
