  • Helen Mirren’s ‘Golda’ to release in India on September 1

    By PTI

MUMBAI: Hollywood veteran Helen Mirren-starrer ‘Golda’, based on the life of Israel’s fourth and only woman Prime Minister Golda Meir, will be released in Indian theatres on September 1, Lionsgate India announced Monday.

Directed by Guy Nattiv and written by Nicholas Martin, the film will be released by Lionsgate and PVRINOX Pictures.

“The thriller focuses on the intensely dramatic events, high-stake responsibilities, and controversial decisions that Meir also known as the ‘Iron Lady of Israel’ faced during the Yom Kippur War in 1973,” the makers said in a press release.

” Golda was the wrong person, in the wrong place, at the wrong time. She didn’t want to be a prime minister, but she had to take the job because no one else wanted it at that time. They pushed her to be a prime minister and then she was thrown into this mayhem and trying to deal with the mess. She was the Iron Lady of Israel and, like Margaret Thatcher, there are some people who love her and some people who hate her,” Nattiv said in a statement.

‘Golda’ is produced by Michael Kuhn, Jane Hooks and Nicholas Martin.

  • Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone prequel 1932  renamed to 1923

    By Express News Service

Director Taylor Sheridan’s new Yellowstone prequel has been renamed. It was announced that the prequel series 1932 will now instead be known as 1923 and will take place in the new titular year as opposed to the former.

The show serves as a followup to the Yellowstone prequel 1883, which followed a generation of the Dutton family as they move across the country to settle in Montana. It starred Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, and Sam Elliott.

1923, which will star Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford, focuses on the Dutton family’s next two generations as they struggle to survive historic drought, lawlessness and prohibition, and an epidemic of cattle theft; all battled beneath the cloud of Montana’s great depression, which preceded the nation by almost a decade. It is set to debut on Paramount+ in December.

  • Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren join Yellowstone prequel series 1932

    By Express News Service

Set in Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone universe, 1932 will be a follow-up prequel to the recently released prequel series 1883.

1883, which is headlined by Sam Elliot, Faith Hill, and Tim McGraw, told the story of the Dutton family as they made their way to Montana to found what would become the Yellowstone Ranch in the parent series.

1932 will follow the Dutton family in the titular year, a time of Prohibition, the Great Depression, and westward expansion. The series is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studios, and Bosque Ranch Productions.

  • Helen Mirren says she felt ‘utterly useless’ at the beginning of her career

    By IANS

LOS ANGELES: Veteran Hollywood star Helen Mirren felt like a “deer in the headlights” in her early career because she had “no idea” how to behave in front of the camera and hadn’t grasped the “fundamentals” of filmmaking. She admitted to Britain’s OK! magazine: “I was utterly useless at the beginning as I had no idea about getting in the shot or the frame of the camera or what to do when you are in the frame.”I felt when I started out in film it was like deer in the headlights acting. It was like, ‘Action!’ then, ‘Freeze!’. I did not know what to do. It took me a long time.”I did a film called ‘Excalibur’ once and none of us had an idea of what we were doing. We didn’t realise we couldn’t change the shot and we had to do what we rehearsed. Even those fundamentals I did not understand.”The 76-year-old actress is keen to go back to work in the theatre because she loves the “challenge” but said getting back on stage is getting more “difficult” as she’s getting older, reports femalefirst.co.uk. She said: “I try to go back to the stage every few years but it gets difficult as you get older.”It’s only two or three hours a night but you work from the minute you wake up in the morning, as everything is geared towards that moment. “It’s like, ‘When do I eat and when I do rest?’ It’s a challenge, like, ‘Can I do it still? Am I capable?’”There’s a sense of challenge and a sense of duty as there’s a slight leftover of, ‘Well that is real acting’ and film is something else. “That’s not true but it’s a very different kind of energy and commitment. So it’s a combination of these things.”Mirren knows if she gets a stage offer, she will find it hard to turn down. She added: “I’m lucky I’ve got to a point where if I’m asked to play a role on stage it’s a great role. I find it hard to say no to great roles.”

  • Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, Al Pacino to star in ‘Sniff’

    By IANS

LOS ANGELES: Oscar winners Morgan Freeman, Al Pacino, Helen Mirren and Oscar nominee Danny DeVito will star in “Sniff”, a stylish reinvention of the film noir genre that will be directed by Taylor Hackford.

Hackford is the Oscar-winning director behind “Ray”. “Sniff” follows detective Joe Mulwray played by Freeman and partner William Keys essayed by DeVito as they investigate a high-end luxury retirement community after the mysterious deaths of two of its residents.

What starts out as a normal case quickly turns strange, as the detective duo uncover a hidden underworld of sex, drugs and murder controlled by senior living community kingpin Harvey Stride played by Pacino and his femme fatale enforcer The Spider essayed by Mirren.

Endeavor Content will launch worldwide sales at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), with CAA Media Finance co-representing the US, reports variety.com.

Adam Goodman and Matt Skiena will produce through their Dichotomy Creative Group alongside Hackford through his production company Anvil Films.

“I have always been a big fan of film noir but haven’t really made one,” Hackford told Deadline.

“The whole concept of setting a film noir in an upscale retirement community… these are proliferating all over the United States as the baby boomer generation gets to retirement. There’s a lot of money, and people want to live in a beautiful setting. Those are on the brochures, but what Tom Grey did was show what was lurking below the surface.”

Hackford added: “I thought it was a brilliant idea and he understood the nature of good noir — the dark story, the incredibly twisted characters — and I thought he had a great handle.

“Adam and Matt said, “It’s yours if you want to run with it.’ I met the writer, Tom Grey, we clicked and worked on it together, him writing and me putting ideas in.”
