The State Government has requested the Government of India to provide 3 lakh 50 thousand bales of gunny bags for purchase of paddy from farmers in the Kharif marketing year 2020-21 in Chhattisgarh. The Government of India has given information of supplying only one lakh 43 thousand bales of gunny bags to Chhattisgarh by 50 percent, through the Jute Commissioner and till now the state has received only 56 thousand bales of gunny bags. is. Due to drastic reduction in the supply of gunny bags by the Government of India, the purchase of new gunny bags of 70 thousand HDPE, PP through the Gem portal is being done by the State Government. Apart from this, arrangements are also being made to procure paddy from the remaining gunny bags in PDS system.
Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel has instructed to use savings gunny bags for paddy purchase after use in PDS system to prevent paddy purchase as a result of the Government of India cutting the supply of gunny bags. On the instructions of the Chief Minister, the Food Department has directed all the collectors of the state to collect the savings of gunny bags of PDS and keep them safe for paddy purchase.
It is noteworthy that about 95 lakh metric tonnes of paddy is estimated to be purchased in the Kharif marketing year 2020-21. It is expected that 4 lakh 75 thousand bales of gunny bags are required for the procurement of paddy. The Government of India was requested to provide 3 lakh 50 thousand bales of gunny bags for the purchase of paddy by the Government of Chhattisgarh. On the request of the State Government, the Government of India was informed on 30 July 2020 to supply 3 lakh bales of gunny bags through Jute Commissioner Kolkata. On 9 October, regarding the new jute gunny bags sent by the Government of India, it was informed that the supply of gunny bags to Chhattisgarh has been reduced by 50 percent. Only one lakh 43 thousand bales of gunny bags will be supplied to Chhattisgarh. So far, only 56 thousand bails of gunny bags have been received by the Government of India through the Jute Commissioner after the information of supply of one lakh 43 thousand bales of gunny bags. Paddy procurement should not be affected by the cut in supply as per the demand of gunny bags by the state government, for this, the collection of PDS gunny bags and old gunny bags of Miller are being verified in the state. Along with this, 70 thousand bale HDPI, P.P. Procurement of new gunny bags through Gem portal is being done by the State Government.
