  • Actor Jeremy Renner suffered ’30 plus broken bones’ in snow plow accident

    By AFP

LOS ANGELES: Actor Jeremy Renner — perhaps best known as Hawkeye in the Marvel Universe films — said Saturday he broke more than 30 bones when he was run over by his own snow plow at his Nevada home on New Year’s Day.

The “Avengers” star spent more than two weeks in the hospital after the giant 14,000-lb (six-ton) vehicle rolled onto him as he was clearing a driveway.

“These 30 plus broken bones will mend, grow stronger, just like the love and bond with family and friends deepens,” the 52-year-old two-time Oscar nominee wrote on Instagram, thanking fans for their messages of support.

I want to thank EVERYONE for their messages and thoughtfulness. Much love and appreciation to you all. These 30 plus broken bones will mend , grow stronger, just like the love and bond with family and friends deepens pic.twitter.com/kzj2CLYdXA

He posted a photo of himself lying on a medical bed, hands clenched at the chest, while a man is holding up his leg, bent at the knee.

“Morning workouts, resolutions all changed this particular new years,” Renner wrote. “Spawned from tragedy for my entire family, and quickly focused into uniting actionable love.”

Renner sustained the injuries while attempting to climb into the snow plow to stop it. He was evacuated by helicopter and later posted a selfie from his hospital bed, showing heavy bruising on his face.

Officials said shortly after the accident there was no indication that alcohol or drugs were involved.

The PistenBully, or snowcat, operated by Renner is a large specialized snow-plowing vehicle with giant, raised caterpillar tracks on each side of an enclosed cab.

Renner has been nominated for two Oscars for his roles in “The Hurt Locker” and “The Town.” He also stars in the Paramount+ series “Mayor of Kingstown.”

  • My feelings for Hawkeye have only deepened: Jeremy Renner

    By PTI

NEW DELHI: It’s been a decade since Jeremy Renner took on the role of Hawkeye and the actor says he is grateful for all the experiences that came his way while playing the character in multiple Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films.

Renner played Clint Barton aka Hawkeye, an expert marksman and archer, for the first time in 2011’s “Thor” before becoming one of the central figures of the MCU with “The Avengers” (2012).

Since then, the 50-year-old actor has essayed the role in “Avengers: Age of Ultron”, “Captain America: Civil War” and “Avengers: Endgame”, earning his own dedicated army of Marvel fans.

Now, he returns with the character for Disney+ Hotstar series “Hawkeye”, which also stars Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop.

“My feelings for this character have only deepened. This series is a great way to express the character, over the six hours and I was very grateful for that. My daughter realises what the heck I do for a living, really grateful for that. This will be the first thing she’s ever seen me do.”

“I love the life experiences that it’s bestowed upon me. And very blessed for that and for the friendships and life experiences that I got around the globe,” Renner told PTI in a group interview over Zoom.

“Hawkeye”, which started streaming on Disney+ Hotstar from Wednesday, is set two years after the events of “Avengers: Endgame”.

It follows Barton who must partner with Kate Bishop to confront enemies from his past as Ronin in order to get back to his family in time for Christmas.

Renner, whose impressive acting resume also include critically-acclaimed movies such as “The Hurt Locker”, “The Town”, “Arrival”, “The Wind River” and two “Mission: Impossible” movies, said the show allowed him to venture into uncharted territories with the character.

“Personally, with this series, I got to explore different sides of him and be able to share with fans because the fans are really the ones that make this happen. I’m very thankful and happy to explore all these other kinds of fun sides and darker sides.”

Besides, the show also cements a lot of things that audiences already know about Barton, Renner added.

“I liked the sense of humour and it’s also with the different characters that are introduced in the show. They bring up different sides of him, which I think are really great.”

“I love starting out in this world as not in superhero mode and with the end of the world scenario, which is nice. It’s like you get a cup of coffee first and enjoy the day and then the aliens come. So it’s kind of a nicer introduction. And I can tell that it widens the lens here a little bit.”

Renner also praised Steinfeld, one of the emerging stars of Hollywood, and said he was glad to have her as his partner-in-crime.

“I love, appreciate, respect and admire Hailee for her intelligence, her skillset, and courageousness. I adore her kindness towards her family and her connection to her family.”

“I love to witness her expression of her spirit through art. I think she’s a tremendous actress and I got to work with her. And so it was pretty amazing to witness,” he said.

“Hawkeye” has been created by Jonathan Igla and co-directed by Rhys Thomas and filmmaker duo Bert & Bertie.

The show also stars Vera Farmiga, Fra Fee, Tony Dalton, Zahn McClarnon, Brian d’Arcy James, and Alaqua Cox.

“Hawkeye” is available for streaming on Disney+ Hotstar in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam

  • Bow and behold

    Express News Service

The upcoming Marvel series, Hawkeye, starring Jeremy Renner, has a lot of questions to answer. What happened to this important character after the events of Avengers: Endgame? Will we learn more about the character’s time as Ronin, as shown in Endgame? Will he pave the way for another Hawkeye to emerge? Renner, speaking with us as part of a press conference, says that the series will explain it all. If all of these questions are not enough, there’s the big one as well: How is Clint Barton dealing with the loss of his best friend, Natasha Romanoff? “There’s an emotional line from Endgame that leads into this, and there’s a lot of healing. However, this series begins on a happy note—with a Christmas vacation in New York—as Barton takes his kids to a musical, when everything goes sideways,” says Renner.

The series will also see Hailee Steinfeld playing the role of Kate Bishop, a girl who annoys Barton a lot but later wins his respect with her talent. Renner is all praise for Steinfeld: “She came in well-prepared. It’s pretty sad that I feel a bit old to see people coming in and going out (laughs). But Hailee came in ready. I just wanted to communicate with her that I had her back as a lot of strange things go into the production of such a show and the filmmaking itself is rather different. I just wanted to let her know that she wasn’t alone, and that I would give her answers if she wanted them.”

Clint Barton showered similar affection on Natasha Romanoff, who, as we saw in Endgame, sacrificed herself to save him and the world. Ask him about how Barton is dealing with survivor’s guilt and Renner says, “On the outside, there’s the guilt, and having to deal with the loss, yes. But then, he has lost more as well. This is addressed in the show, and I think it is beautifully intimate. It also brings characters closer as well as the audience. It all comes from just the weight of the horror and tragedy and the loss that comes with playing the game. The lightness and brightness that Hailee’s character brings in counteracts that. So, it’s cathartic, and I think it is quite beautiful.”

Renner goes on to elaborate on the relationship between Kate and Clint: “They are polar opposites, and yet, have congruent values, belief systems and skillsets. It’s a wonderfully complicated partnership. When you put them together, you get winning scenarios. It’s more like a buddy cop story with a mentor.” The series will also reportedly spend time establishing Clint Barton as a father and he calls that “one of the most important anchors”.

He says, “It tells the audience what Clint’s real superpower is—it’s an amalgamation of all this practical, ultimately, very palatable and accessible morality. I think any amazing parent is a superhero in their own right. To be a father is a tremendous honour and a gift, and the most difficult thing I think any human can go through. I think it really is the anchor and base to where all of Barton’s steadfastness, actionability and relatability come from. That’s his superpower.”

  • There’s no standing apart, it’s about standing together: Hailee Steinfield on Marvel show ‘Hawkeye’

    By PTI

NEW DELHI: Hollywood star Hailee Steinfeld says headlining her own Marvel project felt like becoming a part of a team and her endeavour was to showcase her credentials as a team player.

One of the rising stars in Hollywood, Steinfeld makes her debut in the highly-successful Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) with her upcoming series “Hawkeye”, co-starring Jeremy Renner.

The Disney+ Hotstar series introduces Steinfeld as Kate Bishop, an ardent follower of Clint Barton aka Hawkeye (Renner).

She becomes his protege as they confront enemies from his past.

“I just feel so lucky to be a part of this show. Becoming a part of the MCU feels like I’ve become a part of a team. And there’s no standing apart, it’s about standing together. So I feel very lucky to be involved at all,” the 24-year-old actor told PTI during a group Zoom interview.

With MCU expanding in all sorts of directions with its post-“Avengers: Endgame” projects, there is bound to be pressure on newcomers to make their mark.

Steinfeld, who previously starred in movies such as “True Grit”, “Begin Again”, “The Edge of Seventeen” and “Bumblebee”, however, is already an established star in her own right.

The actor said she was was glad to work with Renner, a veteran figure in the MCU and one of the original members of the Avengers team.

“We just met and we were on our way with this thing. Everything happened so fast and we sort of jumped right into the deep end. And I think that sort of left us no choice but to become a team because we were taking all this on together. We had a lot of laughs and we had a great time, so that obviously helped and we got to do some of the coolest things ever. So, we had some fun, little bonding moments as we worked on this series.”

Renner, she said, was a pillar of support and a true mentor on the show.

“It’s really been so incredible having Jeremy throughout this experience because it truly has been unlike anything I’ve ever experienced in the past. It was something that I could not have really prepared myself for and so I’m grateful that I had him and his support and his mentorship through this whole thing. I really did feel that collaboration and that team very early on and it was also very cool just to watch him do his thing as a fan of the Avengers,” she added.

Steinfeld has been acting since the age of 10 and found fame when she was cast as Mattie Ross in critically-acclaimed Westerner “True Grit”.

Over the years, her portrayal of strong-willed and headstrong characters has won her praise from  critics and fans.

The actor said there is both an element of deliberateness as well as coincidence in her finding such amazing characters.

“There’s obviously something there that I love and that I’m drawn to. But I do think that these qualities aren’t necessarily the qualities that I actively searched for in the characters that I play. But I do love it when I discover that they all happen to have that in common, that there are these strong-willed and strong-minded young women who have a point of view and are trying to figure out their place in this world and assert that position,” Steinfeld said.

“Hawkeye” has been created by Jonathan Igla and co-directed by Rhys Thomas and the filmmaker duo Bert & Bertie.

The show also stars Vera Farmiga, Fra Fee, Tony Dalton, Zahn McClarnon, Brian d’Arcy James, and Alaqua Cox.

“Hawkeye” will start streaming on Disney+ Hotstar in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam on Wednesday.

  • Marvel Studios’ ‘Hawkeye’ series to debut on Disney Plus in November

    By PTI
LOS ANGELES: Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfield-starrer superhero series “Hawkeye” will premiere on streamer Disney Plus on November 24.

The show’s release date and the first look was shared by Entertainment Weekly on Friday.

In the series, Renner is reprising his role of Clint Barton aka Hawkeye from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), with Steinfeld essaying the part of Kate Bishop.

The project, which hails from Marvel Studios, is being planned as a graduation point for Renner’s Barton where he passes on the Hawkeye mantle to his young protege Bishop.

“(Kate is) a 22-year-old kid and she’s a big Hawkeye fan. She has a wonderfully annoying and equally charming manner about her, because she’s such a fangirl of Hawkeye,” Renner told the outlet.

“The relationship grows from that, but the biggest problem for Clint is Kate Bishop and the onslaught of problems that she brings into his life,” he added.

Renner, 50, said he played a mentor figure to Steinfield off-screen as well since “Hawkeye” is her first project in the MCU.

“That was always my role. Outside of acting in the thing, I was protecting her and giving her the CliffsNotes on how it goes with this kind of filmmaking: Green screen, superhero life, all that stuff,” Renner said.

“I just wanted to protect her, because there’s a lot of physical stuff. She’s a wonderful actress, a wonderful human, and I can’t wait to see all the cool stuff that she’s able to do,” he added.

Created and written by Jonathan Igla, “Hawkeye” will also feature Vera Farmiga as Kate’s mother Eleanor Bishop as well as Florence Pugh, who is reprising her character Yelena Belova from the MCU film “Black Widow”.

The show’s cast also include Fra Fee, Tony Dalton, Alaqua Cox, and Zahn McClarnon.

With its launch in November, “Hawkeye” will be the fourth live-action MCU show to debut on Disney Plus.

The first was “WandaVision” with Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany followed by “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier”, led by Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan.

Most recently, the streamer debuted “Loki” starring Tom Hiddleston and Sophia Di Martino.
