  • Embracing the ‘shoey’: Harry Styles drinks out of shoe during Australia concert

    By ANI

CANBERRA: Singer Harry Styles surprised everyone by kicking off his concert with an Aussie tradition.

The ‘As It Was’ chart-topper played his first Aussie show in Perth Monday night and stunned fans when he drank out of his Adidas sneaker, Page Six reported.

Taking a song break, Harry, 29, slipped off one of his shoes, filled it with liquid – presumably beer – and without hesitation necked his shoe’s contents before putting it back on his foot.

“This is one of the most disgusting traditions I’ve ever (heard of),” Styles said, referencing the “shoey,” which was popularized by Formula 1 driver Daniel Ricciardo.

Footage of the moment quickly went viral, leaving several netizens uneasy.

“This is so horrible,” a social media user commented.

“Why Harry Why,” another one wrote.

Harry jetted off to Australia shortly after appearing at this year’s Brit awards in London, where he won all four awards he was nominated for, including best artist, best song for As It Was, best album for Harry’s House and best pop/R&B act.

  • Harry Styles wins album of the year Grammy; Beyonce triumphs

    By PTI

LOS ANGELES: Harry Styles won album of the year at Sunday’s Grammy Awards, taking home the top honor on a night that Beyonce dominated and became the ceremony’s most decorated artist.

Beyonce won her 32nd award, breaking a 26-year-old record. But as in years past, the album of the year honor eluded her.

Styles took home three awards Sunday.

“I’m so inspired by every artist in this category,” said the teary-eyed singer.

“A lot of different times of my life, I’ve listened to everyone in these categories. It’s so important to remember that there is no such thing as best.”

Still, Beyonce stands alone on her Grammy throne and had the support of the room throughout the night, with winners frequently referencing her and her influence on them.

“I’m trying not to be too emotional,” the superstar said after her historic win as her husband Jay-Z stood and applauded her.

The singer thanked her late uncle, her parents, Jay-Z and her children for supporting her.

“I’m just trying to receive this night. I want to thank God for protecting me. Thank you, God,” she added.

Beyonce won for best R&B song for Cuff It, dance-electric music recording for Break My Soul, traditional R&B performance for Plastic Off the Sofa and dance-electric album for Renaissance, which is also nominated for album of the year.

Lizzo won record of the year for About Damn Time, delivering a rousing speech that brought many in the audience, including Beyonce, Taylor Swift and Adele, to their feet.

“Me and Adele were having a good time, rooting for our friends. This is an amazing night. This is so unexpected,” Lizzo said, dedicating her award to Prince.

“I wanted to make the world a better place, so I had to be that change to make the world a better place.

Now, I look around and see these songs are about loving your body and feeling comfortable in your skin and feeling good.

Jazz singer Samara Joy won best new artist, shrugging off challenges by such acts as Wet Led, Anitta and Maneskin.

The New Yorker was virtually in tears when she collected the award and noted that her little brother was her date.

I’m so, so grateful. Thank you.”

She has released two albums as a lead artist and also won the Grammy for best jazz vocal album earlier in the night.

Beyonce missed being in the room when she tied Solti’s record, which stood since 1997.

Host Trevor Noah said she was on her way to the ceremony but blamed Los Angeles traffic for not being in person to accept it.

The song was written by several writers including Beyonce, The-Dream, Nile Rodgers and Raphael Saadiq.

Once Beyonce the night’s leading nominee finally arrived, Noah presented her with the best R&B song award at her table.

Veteran singer-songwriter Bonnie Raitt shrugged off big-name rivals like Adele, Taylor Swift and Beyonce to win the song of the year award.

“I’m so surprised. I don’t know what to say, “a visibly stunned Raitt said, adding that the song Just Like That” explores organ donation.

It capped a night when Raitt won two other Grammys for best Americana performance and best American roots song.

A who’s who of hip-hop royalty took the stage for an epic, rousing 15-minute tribute to the genre’s 50th anniversary.

The performance included Grandmaster Flash doing part of his seminal hit The Message, Run DMC, Chuck D and Flavor Flav along with Ice-T, Queen Latifah, Busta Rhymes and Nelly all taking the stage.

It ended with everyone on the stage and LL Cool J shouting multi-generational! Fifty years! Bad Bunny opened the show with a festive, high-energy performance that brought many of the audience including Taylor Swift who rose to her feet and danced near her table at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena.

Styles won the main telecast’s first award for best pop vocal album for Harry’s House. The singer said recording the song was one of the greatest experiences of his life.

It’s been my greatest joy.  Sam Smith and Kim Petras won best pop duo-group performance for their song Unholy.

Petras said Smith wanted Petras to make the acceptance speech because I’m the first transgender woman to win this award.

“I want to thank all the incredible transgender legends before me who kicked these doors open for me so I could be here tonight,” said Petras, who made a reference to friend and Grammy-nominated musician Sophie, who died after an accidental fall in Athens, Greece in 2021.

You told me this would happen. I always believed in me. Thank you so much for your inspiration, Sophie. I adore you, and your inspiration will forever be in my music.

Petras thanked Madonna for being a tremendous supporter of LGBTQ rights. I don’t think I could be here without Madonna, Petras said. My mother, I grew up next to a highway in nowhere Germany.

And my mother believed me that I was a girl. I wouldn’t be here without her and her support.

During the in memoriam segment, the Grammys recognized the lives of Loretta Lynn, Migos rapper Takeoff and Christine McVie with several star-studded performers paying them homage.

The touching performances included Kacey Musgraves singing Coal Miner’s Daughter in tribute to Lynn; Quavo and the Maverick City Music hit the stage to honor his nephew Takeoff with the song Without You; and Sheryl Crow, Mick Fleetwood and Bonnie Raitt performed Songbird to remember McVie.

Kendrick Lamar won sixth career trophy for best rap performance for The Heart Part 5 and also won best rap album for his studio offering, Mr. Morales & The Big Steppers.

“You know, as entertainers, we say things to provoke thoughts and feelings and emotions,” he said. So making this record is one of my toughest.  I would like to thank the culture for allowing me to evolve in order to make this.

I finally found imperfection with this album.

Viola Davis emerged from Sunday’s show an EGOT  a term for those who have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony after her win for best audio book, narration and storytelling recording.

The actor gave an emotional speech and emphatically said I just EGOT after she marched on stage to collect her award.

    “Oh, my God,” she said.

“I wrote this book to honor the 6-year-old Viola, to honor her, her life, her joy, her trauma, everything,” Davis said. It has just been such a journey.

Tattered streetwear, T-shirts and denim mixed with blinged-out couture, wild patterns and plenty of skin on the Grammys carpet.

Lizzo wowed in a bright orange Dolce & Gabbana robe adorned with flowers and a huge hood while Taylor Swift wore a long two-piece sparkly skirt with a high-neck and long-sleeve crop top in midnight blue.

The show marks a return to Los Angeles after the pandemic first delayed, then forced the Grammys to move to Las Vegas last year.

Noah hosted the ceremony as well, which saw Jon Batiste take home album of the year.

  • Emma Corrin talks about intimate scenes in ‘My Policeman’

    By IANS

English actress Emma Corrin, who is awaiting the release of her movie ‘My Policeman’, recently opened up about the importance of intimate scenes in the film. The film, which also stars Harry Styles (Tom) and David Dawson, sees Emma playing the role of Tom’s wife, Marion.Talking about the intimate scenes and how they helped to move the narrative forward, Emma said, “When Tom and Marion are first intimate together, it’s almost heartbreaking in the sense that, although they’re physically close to each other, they’re so far apart. I think it’s one of the first times she realises there’s something quite significant missing from their relationship. You feel that and feel for her, and that’s very powerful.”The film is set in 1957 Britain when homosexuality was taboo. It tells the story of a married man falling in love with his best friend. But the ‘many’ intimate scenes in the film have become the talk of the town.Adding how the bond between the three friends is crucial in the film, Corrin said, “The friendship that the three of them have is so central and we knew that the audience would really need to believe in that. We were lucky to have a three-week rehearsal process before we started shooting where we got to know each other.”Corrin, who identifies as a non-binary, found it challenging to play the character, “I was willing to explore it and I learned a lot. I certainly learned what it was like for people to exist at that time.”With hopes that the film will further conversations about the LGBTQIA+ community in society, Corrin concluded, “Marion’s journey and what she does, is so central to furthering the narrative of queer acceptance today. It’s why the film is so heartbreaking.”Directed by Michael Grandage, ‘My Policeman’ is based on Bethan Roberts’ 2012 novel of the same name and is set to stream on Prime Video from November 4.

  • Harry Styles and other stars raising cash for WHO in Ukraine

    By AFP

GENEVA: British music stars Harry Styles and Ed Sheeran, US basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal and other celebrities will donate personal objects for a campaign launched on Saturday to support healthcare in Ukraine.

Seven months into Russia’s war, the WHO Foundation — an independent organisation that works to raise funds to support the UN health agency’s work addressing global health crises — launched the “Human Kind” e-store, where fans can try to win items donated by their favourite celebrities.

The funds raised will go towards supporting WHO’s actions in war-ravaged Ukraine and neighbouring countries, the foundation said, adding that it aimed to raise USD 53.7 million.

Harry Styles has donated a signed vinyl, while Shaquille O’Neal, Ukrainian footballer Vitaliy Mykolenko and other sports legends have donated signed shirts and jerseys.

Wladimir Klitschko, a former heavyweight boxing champion and brother of Kyiv’s mayor, has donated a boxing glove.

The star-studded line-up also includes British singer Ellie Goulding and American artist Shepard Fairey.

A combination of pictures made available on September 23, 2022 in Geneva shows clockwise: a signed vinyl by British singer and actor Harry Styles, a signed glove by Ukrainian former boxing world heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, a signed print by US street artist Obey aka Sherpard Fairey and a signed jersey by US basket legend Shaquille O’Neal. British pop legend Annie Lennox, who donated a pair of iconic sunglasses, said images from Ukraine, including of women giving birth in basements, were “profoundly shocking.”

“I encourage everyone to do what they can to support the people of Ukraine through this crisis,” she said in the foundation’s statement, insisting that “healthcare is a human right that all deserve access to.”

Raffle tickets for the items cost between £5-10 ($5.40-10.90) on the humankind.who.foundation website from September 24 to October 24, with winners set to be drawn on October 31, the foundation said.

“Seven months into this tragic war, people are ever more in need of urgent medical care across the country,” foundation chief Anil Soni said in the statement.

“We must address the immediate and long-term health needs of those affected.”

Since Moscow invaded its western neighbour on February 24, the WHO has verified 550 attacks on healthcare in Ukraine. More than 5,900 civilians have died, and more than 8,600 have been injured, while over 12 million Ukrainian refugees are currently in Europe as a result of the war, the WHO said.

Meanwhile, some 17.7 million people — over a third of Ukraine’s population — need humanitarian assistance.

The WHO said it has so far helped deliver 1,300 metric tonnes of medical supplies to Ukraine, including kits for blood transfusions, essential medicines, ambulances, oxygen, and surgical equipment.

  • Harry Styles accepts his first acting award of Oscar season

    By ANI

WASHINGTON: ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ star Harry Styles was soft-spoken while accepting an award for one of his first major movie roles at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival.

According to Variety, Styles, a man of relatively few words, and the cast of ‘My Policeman’ received the ensemble award at the festival’s Tribute Awards on Sunday night.

“Thank you so much to everyone here, on behalf of all of us, for this wonderful, wonderful award,” said Styles, who stars in the romantic drama as a closeted police officer. “We all loved working on this film so much. And we hope you enjoy it.”

Styles then hastily exited the Fairmont Royal York, where the annual gala is held while carrying the train of his co-star Emma Corin’s long, black dress.

However, there were enough other A-listers to make the three-hour party lively. Even though the festival is still going on, Toronto conducted its fourth annual tribute awards, honouring stars including Michelle Yeoh, Sam Mendes, Brendan Fraser, and Oscar-winning composer Hildur Gunadottir of ‘Joker,’ ‘Women Talking,’ and ‘Tar.’

Buffy Sainte-Marie, an Oscar-winning composer who received another award that evening, remarked about the need of casting Indigenous people in Indigenous roles. Sainte-Marie declared, “It’s more significant than just fooling white people. These individuals will see your movies with their complete civilizations present. Could ‘The Sopranos’ have been cast without Italians? ”

Fraser then reconnected with Yeoh, his co-star from ‘The Mummy 3,’ while Colman and Mendes presided over a table near the front of the room as fans approached them to express their admiration for their work.

Fraser started the awards season on an emotional note, breaking down in tears during the Venice world premiere of ‘The Whale,’ which was followed by Sunday night’s gala. His portrayal of a 600-pound gay guy in a wheelchair is anticipated to propel him to the front of the race for this year’s best actor Oscar. His performance was equally embraced at TIFF (though the standing ovation was slightly shorter).

At Sunday’s ceremony, Fraser again appeared to be visually emotional as Aronofsky introduced him by saying, “We need more people like Brendan Fraser, the man and the actor.”

For Fraser, “The Whale” marks a career resurgence as his first major film role in years. He thanked the fans (“It’s the audience that gives cinema life,” he says) for “keeping me in the job that I love.”

“Art is about taking a risk, and you should know that [Aronofsky and screenwriter Samuel D. Hunter] took a chance on me, and I will be forever grateful to them,” he said. “‘The Whale’ is a redemption story.”

With his trophy in hand, Fraser remarked, “This is new for me. Normally, I’m the guy at the podium who hands these things out.”

‘My Policeman’ is set in the 1950s and sees Harry star as policeman Tom, who falls in love with a schoolteacher in Brighton. However, he soon begins a same-sex romance with a museum curator despite homosexuality being illegal at the time.

  • Chris Pine’s representative denies Harry Styles spitting rumours

WASHINGTON: Hollywood actor Chris Pine’s representative has now dismissed all the claims, stating that actor Harry Styles spat on Pine during the world premiere of ‘Don’t Worry Darling’.

“This is a ridiculous story — a complete fabrication and the result of an odd online illusion that is clearly deceiving and allows for foolish speculation. Just to be clear, Harry Styles did not spit on Chris Pine. There is nothing but respect between these two men and any suggestion otherwise is a blatant attempt to create drama that simply does not exist,” Pine’s representative told Variety.

A video of actor Chris Pine went viral from the world premiere of Olivia Wilde’s film ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ in which Styles apparently could be seen spitting on Pine although the act could not be 100 per cent confirmed by the recordings.

Soon after the video was shared on social media, Styles faced a lot of backlash from the netizens.

According to Variety, the reported Styles-Pine spitting incident was the latest debacle to strike the ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ press tour, which had been dogged by rumours of an apparent feud between director Olivia Wilde and leading lady Florence Pugh for weeks. The two did not appear together on the Venice red carpet, nor did they embrace or glance at each other until after the film received a four-minute standing ovation from the Venice audience.

During a press conference at the Venice Film festival, Olivia Wilde stated, “Florence is a force, We are so grateful she’s able to make it tonight despite being in production on ‘Dune.’ I know, as a director, how disruptive it is to lose an actor even for a day, so I’m very grateful to her, and to Denis Villeneuve for helping us. And we’ll get to celebrate her work tonight. I can’t say how honoured I am to have her as our lead. She’s amazing.”

Wailing along with Styles as he pulled out recent favourites like ‘Daydreaming’ and ‘Adore You’, every word of the star’s performance was being echoed by a crowd of attentive devotees. The space, meanwhile, remained relatively spartan for a tour of this magnitude a few sets of drums and keyboards set on either side, Styles’ stage sat smack-dab in the middle of the iconic venue, with catwalks extending to either side where the star could rush out and sing directly to the crowd. It was a set up Styles made sure he mentioned early-on in his set of bangers.”Quick disclaimer — this show is in 360 degrees, we’re in the round,” he said. “Sometimes we’re gonna be face-to-face, eye-to-eye, window to soul-to-window to soul. That means that some of the time I’ll be facing away from you, and you’ll be face-to-ass. If you find yourself discovering a preference, let me know and I will deliver face and ass evenly.”
