  • Ravindra Jadeja becomes the 34th Indian player to play 50 Tests

Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja completed his 50 Tests as he landed his second Boxing Day Test against Australia on Saturday. Jadeja became the 34th Indian to play 50 Tests. Jadeja suffered a hamstring injury in the first T20 match in Canberra and a few balls later Mitchell Starc’s bouncer hit his helmet causing him to suffer a concussion.

After three weeks of rehabilitation, Jadeja became fully fit and was included in the team in place of Indian captain Virat Kohli for the second Test. Left-arm spin all-rounder Jadeja has so far taken 214 wickets in addition to scoring 1869 runs in 50 matches.

  • FC Barcelona announce squad for La Liga match against Valencia

The next Barcelona match is upon us! The Blaugrana return to action for a big La Liga game against Valencia, and Ronald Koeman has called up the following 23 players for Saturday’s clash

No bad news are good news on the injury front and there are no fresh injury concerns from Barça after the Real Sociedad game, which means the absentees are still Ansu Fati (knee), Gerard Piqué (knee), Sergi Roberto (thigh) and Ousmane Dembélé (hamstring), who is already back in training and could be available to play again as soon as next week.

  • Moises Henriques added to Australia’s squad for first Test, Sean Abbott ruled out

Moises Henriques has joined the Test squad as cover for Cameron Green even as Australia’s injury woes continued with Sean Abbott ruled out of the first Test in Adelaide. Abbott had picked up a calf strain in the day-night tour match at the SCG on Saturday. He will remain in Sydney to continue his rehabilitation but is expected to join the squad for the second Test.

One good news coming in for Australia was that Green was making steady progress in his recovery from the mild concussion he suffered during the SCG tour game. Green, Henriques and Mitchell Starc were among the Australian players flying into Adelaide together on Monday on the same charter plane that dropped the Indian touring party from Sydney to South Australia.

Henriques, Cricket Australia said, recovered from a mild hamstring strain which had ruled him out of the Australia A game against the Indians, at the SCG. He passed a fitness test on Monday to join the injury-hit squad. Henriques had made a comeback during the recent ODIs and T20Is against India after over three years, having last played in 2016

  • Rohit Sharma Begins Fitness Training for Australia Tour in NCA

India batsman Rohit Sharma has begun his fitness training at the National Cricket Academy on Thursday, PTI reported. Other than Rohit, India’s Test squad will be eagerly waiting on the news of fast bowler Ishant Sharma’s fitness.

On Wednesday, senior pacer Ishant Sharma, who is also doing his injury rehab at the NCA, bowled full tilt under the supervision of chief selector Sunil Joshi and NCA head Rahul Dravid.

Rohit is not part of India’s limited overs squad for the Australia tour and selectors included him in the revised Test squad after he played two IPL games for Mumbai Indians besides the final. Though Rohit said he was absolutely fine, the BCCI felt he needed more time to recover from his hamstring injury he had suffered during the IPL, triggering a massive debate over his fitness status.

Rohit had also scored a fluent 68 in the IPL final which his team won by a handsome margin.

Rohit’s fitness has become even more crucial since regular skipper Virat Kohli won’t be available after the first Test in Australia as his wife Anushka Sharma is expecting.

Both Ishant and Rohit will fly to Australia together and undergo a 14-day quarantine before joining the team.

  • Steve Waugh Disappointed Virat Kohli To Miss Three Tests

Australian great Steve Waugh said Tuesday he was surprised and disappointed that India captain Virat Kohli will miss three Tests to be at the birth of his first child, with his absence detracting from the blockbuster series. The 32-year-old and his Bollywood star wife Anushka Sharma are expecting a child in January, and Kohli has been given permission by the Indian cricket board to return home after the first Test in Adelaide, which begins on December 17.

While the absence of the superstar batsman could improve Australia’s chances of regaining the Border-Gavaskar trophy, it is a blow to broadcasters and cricket chiefs already feeling the effects of a pandemic-affected year.”At the selection committee meeting held on October 26th, 2020, Mr Virat Kohli had informed the BCCI about his plans to return to India after the first Test in Adelaide,” the statement said. “The BCCI has granted paternity leave to the Indian captain. He will return after the first Test against Australia in Adelaide.”

Rohit Sharma was initially left out of all the squads when the teams for the tour of Australia were announced, due to a hamstring injury suffered during Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020.

However, the BCCI have been monitoring his fitness, and have cleared him to play the Test series.

“The BCCI Medical Team has been monitoring Rohit Sharma’s fitness and has briefed All-India Senior Selection Committee on the same,” the statement said.

“In consultation with Mr Sharma, it has been decided to rest him for the ODIs and T20Is in Australia to regain full fitness and he has been included in India’s Test squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy,” it concluded.
