The BJP government informed the House that as many as 5,439 state-run primary schools and 272 private primary schools do not have any compound wall surrounding their campuses.

Gujarat: No physical classes in schools upto class 9; night curfew time extended in 10 cities

AHMEDABAD: Amid rising coronavirus cases, the Gujarat government on Friday extended the night curfew time in 10 cities by two hours.
There would be no in-person classes at school for students of Std first to ninth till January 31, it announced.
Gujarat recorded 5,396 new cases of coronavirus since Thursday evening, as per the health department.
To curb further spread of the infection, the government has asked schools to stop offline education for Classes 1 to 9 till January 31 and continue with only online lessons.
Coaching centres for students of Class 9 upwards and those for post-graduate courses as well as competitive exams can run with 50 per cent capacity, the official release stated.
Night curfew is already in force in eight major cities – Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Rajkot, Surat, Gandhinagar, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar and Junagadh.
The time of the curfew was 11 pm to 5 am.
Now it will be from 10 pm to 6 am.
Further, the night curfew will be implemented in Anand and Nadiad cities too.
People who are part of emergency services, pregnant women, patients and their attendants and those traveling to catch flights, buses and trains will be allowed to commute during night curfew.
All others are barred from venturing out in these 10 cities from 10 pm to 6 am.
Shops and other commercial establishments in these cities can operate till 10 pm, while home delivery of food is allowed till 11 pm.
Across the state, sports complexes and stadiums are permitted to organise sports events without spectators, while cinema halls, gymnasiums, water parks, swimming pools, libraries, auditoriums can operate with 50 per cent capacity.
People associated with such commercial activities, including owners and employees, must be fully vaccinated, the government has said.
Public gardens in the state will be shut after 10 pm.
The new guidelines mandate that not more than 400 persons are allowed to attend social, religious, educational, political or cultural events including weddings, while for funerals and last rites, the limit has been set at 100.
Meanwhile, following representations made by lawyers, the Gujarat High Court on Friday decided to stop physical hearings.
Starting Monday (January 10), the high court will “function in the virtual mode only through video-conferencing till further orders,” said a circular.

Offline classes for 1 to 5 to resume in Gujarat from Monday: Jitu Vaghani

AHMEDABAD: With a steady drop in COVID-19 cases in Gujarat, the state government has allowed the resumption of physical classes for students of 1 to 5 who can attend schools from November 22, state education minister Jitu Vaghani said on Sunday.
This will be for the first time that students from classes 1 to 5 will be attending schools in person since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent imposition of restrictions.
Addressing reporters here, Vaghani said the offline teaching for classes 1 to 5 will resume when (Diwali) vacation ends on November 22.
Permission of parents is required for sending their wards to schools.
“The SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) remains the same as applied for other classes where offline education is resumed,” he said.
The state education department will make necessary arrangements to ensure that classes resume without much hassle and the SOP is strictly adhered to, he said.
“Schools will make arrangements for the resumption of offline classes (for students of 1 to 5) from tomorrow in consultation with the state government,” he said.
Offline classes for classes 6 to 8 had resumed in Gujarat on September 2 with a 50 per cent capacity.
The government had also allowed online classes to continue along with offline classes and kept the attendance of students optional.
At the beginning of July, the state government had allowed the reopening of schools for class 12, colleges, and technical institutions in view of a significant drop in new coronavirus cases.
Gujarat had reported 36 coronavirus positive cases in the last 24 hours preceding Saturday, taking the total number of infections in the state to 8,27,184, the state health department had said.
Gujarat was left with 323 active cases as of Saturday.

Classes of Std 12th, colleges can reopen from July 15 inĀ Gujarat

AHMEDABAD: With a significant drop in the daily rise in coronavirus cases, the Gujarat government has decided to allow physical classes of Std 12th, colleges and technical institutes from July 15 with 50 per cent attendance.Chief Minister Vijay Rupani took the decision after reviewing the pandemic situation during a meeting of the government’s core committee earlier in the day, said an official release.
Gujarat registered 56 new coronavirus cases and one death during the day.
Physical attendance will not be compulsory for students, but the authorities at schools and colleges will have to obtain parents’ consent if students are to be asked to attend in person, it said.
Over 6.82 lakh students are enrolled in class 12 across 8,333 higher secondary schools in Gujarat.
There are over 11 lakh under-graduate and diploma students enrolled in over 2,000 colleges and technical institutes, the release informed.

COVID-19 surge: School for classes I-IX shut in Gujarat

AHMEDABAD: School for classes I to IX were directed to be shut for an indefinite period in Gujarat from Monday amid a rise in COVID-19 cases, officials said.However, as per the decision taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Saturday, classroom teaching for standards X and XII as well as colleges would continue, they added.
“All offline classes of standard 1 to 9 in government and private schools will be closed down for an indefinite period from Monday. Online education will be encouraged. The decision was taken keeping in mind safety of students when COVID-19 cases have surged in the state,” a release from the CM’s office said.
Schools and colleges in the state, which were closed since March last year after a lockdown was imposed to tackle the outbreak, were reopened in phased manner from January this year.
School for classes X to XII as well as lectures for undergraduate and postgraduate courses in colleges resumed on January 11, which was followed by resumption of classes IX and XI from February 8.
Gujarat, on Friday, reported 2640 cases, the highest single-day addition, as well as 11 deaths.
