  • James Gunn clarifies on rumours of ‘Green Lantern’ series being cancelled

    By ANI

WASHINGTON: American filmmaker James Gunn has shared a clarification about the fate of HBO Max’s ‘Green Lantern’ series which has been in development for years now.

According to Deadline, a USA-based entertainment news outlet, after a publication said that the show had been cancelled and would no longer proceed, the new co-head of DC Studios refuted the story and labelled it “false”.

Greg Berlanti, the producer of ‘Arrow’, has been working on the Green Lantern series since 2019. It was reported that the show’s focus had changed in October of this year.

Guy Gardner and Alan Scott would have been the series’ main characters, and Finn Wittrock and Jeremy Irvine would have played those parts, respectively. However, the refocus would be on John Stewart, one of DC’s first Black superheroes and one of the longest-serving Green Lanterns, reported Deadline.

Back in 2019, along with ‘Strange Adventures’, ‘Green Lantern’ was confirmed to be in development. The DC properties will be made just for the streaming service, according to Berlanti, and would be “unlike anything seen on television.”

At the time, Berlanti said, “An anthology series of cautionary tales set in a world where superpowers exist, and, in what promises to be our biggest DC show ever made, we will be going to space with a Green Lantern television series, but I can’t reveal any more about that just yet.”

It was revealed in August that ‘Stranger Adventures’ would not be moving forward at the streamer.

HBO Max and DC have undergone numerous changes in 2022 as the Warner Bros. Discovery merger proceeds and the new co-presidents of DC Studios, Gunn and Peter Safran, lay forth a new era for the DC Universe, as per Deadline.

  • Lee Toland Krieger to direct first two episodes of ‘Green Lantern’ series for HBO Max

    By PTI
LOS ANGELES: “Riverdale” director Lee Toland Krieger has been roped in by streaming platform HBO Max to helm the first two episodes of “Green Lantern” series.

The upcoming show is based on DC character Guy Gardner aka Green Lantern, who is described as a hulking mass of masculinity and an embodiment of 1980s hyper-patriotism.

And yet, he is somehow likable.

According to Deadline, the show was first announced in 2019 and received a series order last year.

The story travels across decades and galaxies, beginning on Earth in 1941 with the very first Green Lantern, secretly gay FBI agent Alan Scott, and 1984, with arrogant alpha male Gardner and half-alien Bree Jarta.

They’ll be joined by a multitude of other Lanterns — from comic book favourites to never-before-seen heroes.

The 10-episode series is produced by Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. Krieger recently directed the pilot and second episode of The CW’s “Superman & Lois”.

  • Jeremy Irvine in talks to join HBO Max’s ‘Green Lantern’ series

    By PTI
LOS ANGELES: Actor Jeremy Irvine, best known for the drama “Treadstone”, is in negotiations to star in the upcoming “Green Lantern” series set at HBO Max. The show is based on DC character Guy Gardner aka Green Lantern, who is described as a hulking mass of masculinity and an embodiment of 1980s hyper-patriotism.

And yet, he is somehow likable. If the deal goes through, Irvine would play the gay superhero Alan Scott/Green Lantern opposite Finn Wittrock’s Guy Gardner/Green Lantern. Representatives for HBO Max and Warner Bros TV, which produces the series, declined to comment.

The 10-episode series reinvents the DC characters through a story spanning decades and galaxies, beginning on Earth in 1941 with the very first Green Lantern, secretly gay FBI agent Alan Scott (Irvine), and 1984, with cocky alpha male Guy Gardner (Wittrock) and half-alien Bree Jarta.

They will be joined by a multitude of other Lanterns — from comic book favorites to never-before-seen heroes. It is written by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Seth Grahame-Smith. The trio also executive produce with Geoff Johns, Sarah Schechter, David Madden and David Katzenberg.

Elizabeth Hunter and Sara Saedi are serving as co-executive producers. The show is produced by Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros Television. The “Green Lantern” series was first announced in 2019 and received a series order last year.

  • Ryan Reynolds’ ‘Green Lantern’ will not be part of Zack Snyder’s ‘Justice League’

    By ANI
WASHINGTON: Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds has confirmed that his version of the 2011 ‘Green Lantern’ will not appear in the highly-anticipated Zack Snyder’s cut of ‘Justice League’.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, on Monday, DC fans were struck with a blow when they learned that Reynolds will not have a cameo in the upcoming movie.

There had been several rumours swirling that the ending of the new ‘Justice League’ movie would include a major cameo, and people speculated that Reynolds might appear as Hal Jordan, aka Green Lantern, reprising his role from the 2011 film.

Replying to a Twitter user who suggested Reynolds’ Hal Jordan is the big surprise, he said, “It’s not me. But what a cool pirate flag to cameo as Hal. Maybe it’s another GL? But for me, the suit stays in the closet. I mean, computer.”

Reynolds has been a good sport about the whole thing, even wondering if perhaps it is another Green Lantern who might cameo or even another actor as Hal Jordan. Green Lantern has traditionally been one of the founding members of the ‘Justice League’, so it was always odd that he is been mostly absent from the DCEU up to this point.

A new trailer for ‘Justice League’ was released earlier this month, which did feature a new face: Jared Leto, who is reprising his role as The Joker. That moment was, by far, the most talked-about section of the nearly three-minute trailer.

As per Variety, Zack Snyder’s ‘Justice League’ will hit HBO Max on March 18, this year.
