Maruti Suzuki, the leading car seller in India, achieved a new milestone on the first day of Navratri, selling approximately 30,000 cars across the country. The company also reported receiving around 80,000 inquiries, indicating strong consumer interest. This surge in sales coincides with the implementation of revised GST rates, which have lowered prices for several car models. Maruti Suzuki had previously announced price reductions to pass on the benefits of the GST adjustments to customers. For instance, the entry-level Alto K10 is now available at ₹3,69,900, reflecting a price reduction of ₹1,07,600, and the Grand Vitara has also seen a price decrease of ₹10,76,500. The GST revisions, effective from September 4, 2025, represent the most significant tax reforms since the implementation of GST on July 1, 2017. The changes involved reducing the number of tax slabs from four (5%, 12%, 18%, and 28%) to only two (5% and 18%). The new GST structure categorizes cars based on length, engine capacity, and fuel type. Small cars, defined as those under 4 meters in length with petrol engines under 1,200cc or diesel engines under 1,500cc, attract an 18% GST. Larger or luxury cars, exceeding 4 meters in length or with larger engines, face a 40% GST. Hybrid cars are subject to the same rules as larger cars, while electric cars continue to benefit from a 5% GST rate. Maruti Suzuki, being the largest car manufacturer in India, is poised to benefit significantly from these changes due to its focus on small cars. However, it’s crucial that vehicles meet all the criteria to fall within the lower tax bracket. For example, the Jimny, despite being under 4 meters, has a 1.5-liter petrol engine, putting it in the 40% tax slab. Similarly, the Ertiga, while having a 1,198cc engine, is 4.3 meters long, also placing it in the 40% GST bracket. Non-compliance with even one criterion results in the vehicle being subject to the higher tax rate.

Maruti Suzuki’s newly launched Victoris aims to compete with rivals like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. While domestic sales are a priority, the company plans to significantly expand its global sales by exporting the vehicle to various international markets.

Suzuki’s Export Strategy

Currently, Maruti exports its Grand Vitara compact SUV to approximately 60 countries. The Victoris is designed to target a broader range, exceeding 100 countries worldwide. Similar plans are in place for the e-Vitara, with exports already underway.

Shipments of the e-Vitara have been sent to 12 European countries, including the UK, Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, Hungary, Austria, Iceland, and Belgium. The Victoris is likely to be exported to similar markets. Additionally, the Victoris and e-Vitara will be shipped to destinations across Asia, the Middle East, South and Central America, and Africa.

Growing Export Numbers

India’s export-oriented production is on the rise, and Maruti’s share in exports is increasing. In August 2025, Maruti exported a total of 36,538 cars, accounting for around 20% of the company’s total sales of 1.8 lakh units for the month.

Maruti’s share in overall car exports from India stood at 40% in FY25. The Victoris is expected to further expand the company’s export capabilities.

Maruti’s Global Export Lineup

Maruti already exports various models globally, including the Fronx, Jimny, Dzire, Baleno, Swift, Ertiga, Celerio, S-Presso, Eeco, Ciaz, Grand Vitara, Alto, Brezza, Ignis, XL6, and Wagon R.

The Fronx is currently Maruti’s most exported model, recently achieving the 1 lakh export milestone. The Fronx is exported to over 80 countries, and Suzuki aims to replicate this success with the new Victoris.

Maruti Suzuki has introduced a new SUV in the Indian market, with its launch on September 3rd. This vehicle is designed to compete in the compact SUV segment, targeting established models such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, and Volkswagen Taigun.

Positioned between the Brezza and Grand Vitara (GV) within the Maruti Suzuki lineup, the new SUV has generated considerable excitement. Anticipation is high for the inclusion of innovative features.

The SUV is built on Suzuki’s Global C platform, also utilized in the Grand Vitara. Based on visual reports, it’s expected to be comparable in size to the Grand Vitara in terms of length and width. Enhancements like newly designed DRL headlamps and headlights are integrated to offer a distinctive aesthetic. Spy shots have revealed a split DRL and headlamp configuration, along with a high bonnet, promising a strong road presence.

To cater to diverse customer needs, Maruti Suzuki may offer the SUV with multiple engine options. At launch, it’s anticipated to feature the K15C 1.5-liter mild-hybrid engine, currently employed in the Grand Vitara, XL6, Brezza, and Ertiga. This engine could be tuned differently for the new SUV, potentially delivering around 101 horsepower and 137 Nm of torque.

Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to launch a new SUV in India, aiming to directly compete with the Hyundai Creta. While the automaker has kept most details about the upcoming…

Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to launch a new SUV in India, aiming to directly compete with the Hyundai Creta. While the automaker has kept most details about the upcoming SUV under wraps, it has confirmed that the launch will take place on September 3rd in the Indian market. Recently, the company released a teaser showcasing a full LED tail lamp design. The tail lamp design features a 3D look, along with a sleek brake lamp. Turn indicators are positioned on either side of the brake lamp. The tail lamp’s shape initially resembles the Maruti Suzuki Swift, but it is more stylish. The new SUV aims to increase the company’s market share in the mass-market SUV segment. It is expected to be based on the existing Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. The new SUV will be positioned between the Grand Vitara and the Maruti Suzuki Brezza in Maruti’s portfolio. According to media reports, the new SUV will be sold through the Arena dealerships. Maruti Suzuki is targeting a product that appeals to a broad audience, intending to surpass the Hyundai Creta in sales. Maruti Suzuki already has several powertrains for other products, and it will likely use them in this new SUV. The new SUV will likely have a 1.5-liter petrol engine that generates 101 bhp of maximum power and 139 Nm of maximum torque. It will also offer a petrol-CNG powertrain. Like the Grand Vitara, the new SUV could also come with a petrol-hybrid powertrain. Maruti Suzuki recently announced the production of lithium-ion batteries at its Indian plant. The company may use these domestically produced batteries for the hybrid powertrain of the Grand Vitara, as well as the new SUV, which could reduce the SUV’s price.

Mahindra & Mahindra is aggressively challenging Maruti Suzuki in India’s rapidly growing utility vehicle (UV) segment. Mahindra is aiming to surpass Maruti in the segment, with the gap between the two companies’ sales significantly narrowing. The difference in sales between the two companies was 53,500 units in the initial four months (April-July) of fiscal year 2025. This difference decreased to only 12,700 units during the same period this year. Notably, the gap was reduced to a mere 2,900 units in July.

If this trend continues in the coming months, Mahindra & Mahindra could regain its lead after nine years. The company, known for its Scorpio and Thar models, is increasing production to meet growing demand, thereby reducing waiting times for customers. Maruti Suzuki, renowned for its small cars like the Wagon R and Swift, has maintained its top position in the UV segment since fiscal year 2018, leveraging older-generation SUVs such as the Vitara Brezza and multi-seater Ertiga. Mahindra & Mahindra led the segment until fiscal year 2017.
