  • NDA gets majority with 125 seats in Bihar, Mahagathbandhan gets 110 seats

On the political pitch of Bihar, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) once again won in a breath-stopping match on the lines of T20. Bihar voters prefer Tejashwi’s youth-led opposition grand alliance to veteran leadership of NDA led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar

In the results of all 243 seats of Bihar Assembly late on Tuesday, the ruling NDA in the state has achieved the magic figure of majority with 125 seats. The RJD-led opposition grand alliance is reduced to 110 seats. In this election, AIMIM has won five seats, LJP and BSP one each. Independent candidate has also won one seat. At the same time, exit polls again failed to capture the mood of the people of Bihar.

At the same time, the RJD, which is involved in the opposition grand alliance, won 74 seats, Congress won 19 seats, CPI Male 12 seats, CPI and CPI-M won two seats each. In this election, AIMIM has won five seats, LJP and BSP one each. Independent candidate has been successful in winning one seat. At the same time, JDU has won again in the by-election for Valmiki Nagar Lok Sabha constituency.

The RJD’s ally Left benefited while the Congress was at a loss. In the thrilling contest in the first assembly election of the Coronasal, AIMIM gave up the dream of victory of the opposition Grand Alliance. At the same time, NDA’s old ally LJP forced himself to become a ‘younger brother’ of the BJP by ‘martyr’, pushing JDU to number three. Skepticism on the outcome continued till late night. The key to power was sometimes seen in the hands of the NDA and sometimes by the Grand Alliance. Meanwhile, late evening, RJD accused of rigging. At the same time, the Election Commission held a press conference late at one o’clock and rejected all the allegations.

  • All exit polls in front of BJP proved to be breathless, ‘Brand Modi’ continues to dominate

In Bihar, the BJP has reversed on its own. The initial edge of the Grand Alliance has shrunk. The ruling NDA has overtaken the trends with a clear majority. However, except for a few exit polls, everyone had claimed that the grand alliance under the leadership of Tejashwi Yadav would come to power with a strong performance. But looking at the current trends, it seems that the exit poll proved to be breathless and the NDA is once again returning to power. According to the trends at this time, BJP and JDU were leading in 130 seats out of 243 seats. There is also a clear message of these trends that ‘Brand Modi’ continues to dominate. This is because BJP has been the most powerful performer this time in Bihar elections.

Majority of the NDA in the trends – the number of votes released for the 243 seats in the Bihar Legislative Assembly elections has come down to 230 seats. There is a close fight between the Grand Alliance and the NDA. Sometimes the Grand Alliance and sometimes the NDA is ahead. In the beginning, the Grand Alliance had made a significant edge on DNA. The NDA has taken the lead in 130 seats by coming back. For the first time in trends, the NDA has got a majority. The Grand Alliance has been reduced to 104 seats. The performance of the Congress in the Grand Alliance is very poor. This is the reason that the Grand Alliance is losing its edge.

Tejashwi is ahead, Tej Pratap is behind- Tejashwi Yadav, the leading face of the grand alliance, is leading from Raghopur seat. Tejashwi Yadav promised to give jobs to 10 lakh youth. Although his elder brother Tej Pratap Yadav is now trailing from Hasanpur seat. Tej Pratap is trailing by 1365 votes. He is pitted against the prince of JDU. Apart from this, BJP candidate Vijay Khemka from Purnia Sadar Assembly was ahead with 1663 votes. Lacey Singh of JDU from Dhamdaha Assembly, Afaq Alam votes of Congress from Kasba Assembly, Bima Bharti of JDU from Rupauli Assembly.

Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) have been imposed in and around the counting centres to prevent the gathering of people.

This time Bihar witnessed a triangular contest with the ruling JDU-BJP alliance and grand alliance (RJD, Congress and others) and Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), which is eying the role of a kingmaker in case of a hung Assembly.

On one side is the NDA which includes JD-U (115 seats), BJP (110 seats), Vikassheel Insaan Party (11 seats) and Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindustani Awam Morcha (7 seats).

Mahagathbandhan constitutes RJD (144 seats) and the Congress with 70 seats. Other alliance partners include the CPI-ML (19 seats), CPI (6 seats), and the CPIM (4 seats).

Incumbent chief minister Nitish Kumar was the face of the NDA while Mahagathbandhan declared Tejashwi Yadav as its chief minister candidate.

LJP contested over 130 seats on its own and fielded candidates against all JD-U nominees and only a few against BJP.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is eyeing his fourth term with ally BJP by his side. In 2015, however, Kumar-led Janata Dal (United) fought polls with Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress under the Mahagathbandhan banner. The BJP-led NDA had fought the elections with LJP and other allies.

RJD with 80 seats had emerged as the single largest party in the elections, followed by JD-U (71) paving way for Nitish Kumar to take oath as Bihar Chief Minister for the third term. BJP was reduced to 53 seats and got the largest vote share (24.42 per cent).

However, in 2017, differences emerged between the RJD and JD-U, resulting in Chief Minister Nitish Kumar returning to the NDA.

The exit polls differed in their prediction of tallies of major players in Bihar assembly polls with most predicting an edge for Mahagathbandhan or its victory.
