In 1995, Nehru became the National Vice President of the Youth Center. After this, he was given the responsibility of Chairman of Energy Development Corporation from 1998-2003.
In the by-elections in 2007, the Congress gave him the ticket again and he won. This was followed by victory in the 2008 general election.
Silavat became MLA for the fourth time in 2018 and was made a cabinet minister in the Kamal Nath government. He was given the important responsibility of the Health Department. ऽ On 10 March 2020, he resigned from the membership of the assembly and joined the BJP.
In the Shivraj government, he was given the responsibility of the Department of Water Resources and Fisheries Welfare. He became the MLA for the 5th time, winning the subsequent by-elections.
