  • 13 more patients die at Goa’s biggest Covid hospital; over 70 deaths in last four days

    PANAJI: Thirteen more COVID-19 patients died at the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in the early hours of Friday, a senior health department official said, taking to 75 the number of people who have succumbed at the government-run facility here in the last four days.

    The horror at the GMCH is continuing even as the Goa bench of the Bombay High Court is hearing petitions related to deaths during the “dark hours” at the premier hospital.

    While the state government has not revealed the exact cause of recent deaths at the GMCH, it has told the HC that there were “logistic issues” related to supply of medical oxygen to patients.

    On Thursday, Advocate General Devidas Pangam had told a bench of Justices Nitin Sambre and Mahesh Sonak that there were logistical issues involved in maneuvering the tractor which carries the trolleys of oxygen and in connecting the cylinders to the manifold (group of large gas cylinders).”

    The senior official confirmed that 13 more patients, admitted in various COVID-19wards in the GMCH, died during the wee hours of Friday.

    The number of patients who have died during the “dark hours (between 2 am and 6 am) at the hospital has touched 75 in the last four days.

    As per state government statistics, 26 patients had died at the GMCH during the wee hours of Tuesday, followed by 21 on Wednesday, 15 on Thursday and 13 on Friday (total 75).

    The HC is hearing a bunch of petitions on recent death of COVID-19 patients at the GMCH allegedly due to lack of medical oxygen.

    The Goa government had told the HC on Thursday that during the process of attaching the oxygen manifold there was some interruption, which results in fall of pressure in the supply lines of oxygen to patients.”

    “It was pointed out that it is basically on account of these factors some casualties may have taken place,” the bench had said.

    “We expect the state administration to find out ways and means to overcome these logistical issues so that precious life is not lost on account of any deficiencies in the matter of supply of oxygen to patients,” the HC had said.

    Reacting to the deaths, Goa Forward Party president Vijai Sardesai said the high court should “take over the affairs of the state as there is collapse of governance”

  • After GHMC, BJP Eyes On 2022 BMC Elections; Chief JP Nadda To Visit Mumbai From Dec 18

    After delivering a stellar performance in the recently-held Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections, BJP national president JP Nadda is scheduled to visit Mumbai on December 18 for three days. The aim of the visit is to chalk out a strategy for BJP for the 2022 BMC elections and other Gram Panchayat polls. Nadda will also meet all state BJP leader to plan out a strategy to combat the MVA alliance parties in the upcoming elections. The BJP leader is currently on a 120-day nationwide tour in a bid to expand and strengthen the saffron party across all stated ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections.

    The BJP national president is scheduled to visit Uttar Pradesh for two-days in late December and the UP unit of the party is currently preparing for the visit. The saffron party will appoint the state presidents of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha and Mahila Morcha during the national president’s visit. Nadda had earlier visited Bengal where his convoy was attacked. According to the BJP national general secretary Arun Singh, JP Nadda will give priority to the constituencies where BJP lost during the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections in order to further strengthen the party.

    Praising the outcome of the GHMC elections, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath thanked the people of ‘Bhagyanagar’ for expressing confidence in the leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The BJP had a major advantage in the GHMC elections as it won 48 seats, seven short of the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), which emerged as the single largest party to win 55 seats.

    TRS won the fewer seats won in the 2016 elections when it won a majority in the GHMC elections. BJP’s strong performance was on the heels of its victory in the Dubak assembly seat last month. The party contested the seat from the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi. The GHMC result has been declared at 149 out of 150 seats, with results in the Neredmet Division.

  • Less than TRS majority, BJP increases AIMIM to third position

    Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) emerged as the single largest party in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections winning 55 seats and BJP gave a strong performance by winning 48 seats. The TRS won fewer seats it won in 2016 elections when it had won a majority in the elections to GHMC.

    The BJP emerged as the major gainer in the elections. The strong performance by BJP came on the heels of its victory last month in Dubbak assembly seat. The party had wrested the seat from the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi.


    The GHMC results have been declared on 149 of 150 seats with result in Neredmet division held. Asaduddin Owaisi-led AIMIM won 44 seats and Congress two seats. BJP leaders hailed the party’s strong performance in the elections.

    Party chief JP Nadda said the “historic result” for BJP in Hyderabad GHMC elections shows people’s unequivocal support towards PM Modi’s development and governance model. ” I want to thank the people of Hyderabad,” Nadda told ANI.

    Taking a jibe at TRS, Nadda said that people of Telangana have decided to “say goodbye to the corrupt” Chandrashekar Rao government. Voting for GHMC elections was held in 150 wards on December 1.

  • Amit Shah reaches Hyderabad for roadshow, offers prayers at Bhagyalakshmi Temple

     Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived here at Begumpet Airport in Hyderabad on Sunday to campaign for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections.

    On his arrival, Shah was given a warm welcome by BJP leaders. Later, the Union Home Minister visited the Bhagyalakshmi Temple in Old City, Hyderabad to offer prayers ahead of the campaign.Shah will be addressing public programs today in Telangana and he is also scheduled to attend a roadshow in Secunderabad.

    On Saturday, BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister also visited Hyderabad ahead of the polls. BJP president Jagat Prakash Nadda had held a road-show here on Friday. The top brass in the BJP are campaigning for the GHMC polls.

    Voting will be held in 150 wards in the GHMC polls on December 1 and the results will be declared on December 4. In the last GHMC election, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi won in 99 wards. AIMIM bagged 44, with the remaining seven wards won by other parties and Independents.
