In a fiery parliamentary showdown, BJP’s articulate spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi has put Rahul Gandhi on the mat, insisting the Congress scion beg forgiveness from the country. The trigger: Gandhi’s reference in the Lok Sabha to a supposed unpublished book by ex-Army Chief General M.M. Naravane detailing the deadly Galwan Valley confrontation with China in 2020.

Facts have swiftly unraveled Gandhi’s story. Publisher Penguin Enterprises clarified unequivocally that no such title is in their catalog or slated for release. General Naravane echoed this, stating any purported copies floating around infringe on copyright.

Trivedi didn’t mince words, branding Gandhi’s conduct as a deliberate ploy to hoodwink the House and stoke controversy on national security. Recalling how the Leader of the House once called Gandhi an innocent child, Trivedi quipped he’s now acting like a sly manipulator weaving falsehoods.

Parliamentary chaos ensued as Gandhi tried quoting from the phantom book, prompting ruling party protests, MP suspensions, and a week-long stalemate in Lok Sabha. The government insists any draft is undergoing Defence Ministry scrutiny, countering opposition cries of suppression.

Complicating matters, Delhi Police registered an FIR against the leak of alleged manuscript portions. Trivedi slammed Congress for repeatedly lowering political standards by weaponizing defense matters. ‘Gandhi must apologize now that the truth is out—his claims stand exposed as fiction,’ he asserted.

This saga underscores deep rifts in India’s political landscape, where border heroism clashes with partisan blame games, leaving the nation questioning the maturity of its leaders.

Shiv Sena (UBT) parliamentarian Priyanka Chaturvedi has unleashed a barrage of concerns over the India-US trade pact, dismissing it as lopsided and detrimental to Indian interests. In an interview from New Delhi, she dissected Trump’s exuberant X posts, which paint the agreement as a landmark victory for America, while leaving India’s gains murky at best.

According to Trump, US tariffs on Indian goods have dropped dramatically to 18%, a boon for exporters. Yet Chaturvedi counters that India has reciprocated by eliminating all duties and barriers for American imports. ‘This opens our doors wide to US products, potentially overwhelming local markets,’ she cautioned, urging transparency on the full terms withheld from the public.

Beyond commerce, the deal’s tentacles reach into energy geopolitics. Trump boasted of India’s pledge to halt Russian oil buys, ditch Iranian crude, and pivot to Venezuelan supplies. Coupled with a 10% surge in US oil imports and new LPG contracts with Indian PSUs, Chaturvedi sees a pattern of concessions favoring Washington. She also connected dots to the Anand Fanan peace bill, viewed as advancing US agendas.

Republican senators’ posts reveal more: India allegedly greenlit market access in agriculture and coal, stripping away farmer safeguards. ‘Tariff relief is welcome, but at what cost to our agriculture backbone?’ Chaturvedi probed, painting a picture of unequal exchange.

Shifting to parliamentary drama, she lambasted the Centre for blocking Rahul Gandhi’s reference to a former Army Chief’s unpublished book excerpt on Galwan. Despite legal rights for authors to share snippets, Speaker denied voice, leading to adjournment amid ministerial outrage. ‘Hiding Galwan truths undermines democracy and national security,’ she thundered, demanding accountability from leaders like Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh. This saga, she insisted, exemplifies how power stifles dissent in the name of rules.

Bollywood actress Chitrangda Singh dropped a bombshell about Salman Khan’s filming habits while discussing her experience on the sets of ‘Battle of Galwan’. The superstar, known for his blockbuster hits, apparently skips traditional dialogue practice entirely.

Speaking at a promotional event, Chitrangda revealed, ‘Salman Khan doesn’t do dialogues practice or scene rehearsals. He comes on set and delivers perfectly in one go.’ This natural flair, she explained, comes from his vast experience and deep understanding of character emotions.

The actress vividly described the electric atmosphere on set. ‘Watching Salman bhai perform without preparation was inspiring. His dialogues in the war sequences felt so real and powerful,’ Chitrangda enthused. This method acting approach minimized retakes and kept the production momentum high amid challenging outdoor shoots in freezing temperatures.

‘Battle of Galwan’ recreates the historic 2020 clash between Indian and Chinese troops in Ladakh’s Galwan Valley. Salman essays the role of a commanding officer, bringing gravitas to the narrative of sacrifice and patriotism. The film also features intense action sequences filmed with military precision.

Chitrangda highlighted Salman’s leadership qualities off-screen as well. ‘He motivated the entire crew during difficult schedules. His no-nonsense approach to work is legendary,’ she said.

Industry experts note that Salman’s intuitive style contrasts with method actors who rehearse extensively. Yet, his box-office success proves this unconventional technique works wonders.

As anticipation builds for the film’s release, Chitrangda’s insights humanize the B-town icon, showing the discipline behind his effortless screen presence. ‘Battle of Galwan’ is poised to join the ranks of Bollywood’s finest patriotic films, with Salman Khan leading the charge.

India and China have reportedly held significant discussions focused on managing the western sector of their shared border, marking a potential step towards de-escalating long-standing tensions. These talks, described as ‘active and in-depth communication’ by China’s Ministry of Defence, aimed to enhance control and management along this sensitive region.

Both nations have reportedly committed to continuing dialogue through both military and diplomatic channels, a crucial element in navigating their complex relationship. While an official statement from India’s Ministry of External Affairs is pending, the resumption of these high-level border talks is seen as a positive development.

The discussions occur against a backdrop of several years of strained relations, particularly following the deadly Galwan Valley clash in 2020. Despite multiple rounds of talks since then, progress has been incremental. However, recent months have shown a gradual warming trend, with both countries seeking to ease tensions amidst evolving global economic and geopolitical landscapes.

Signs of thawing relations include the recent resumption of direct flights between India and China, with IndiGo Airlines initiating services from Kolkata to Guangzhou. This move has been hailed as a significant milestone in restoring normal exchanges. Furthermore, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s attendance at the SCO Summit in Tianjin earlier this year, where he met with President Xi Jinping, signaled a commitment to strengthening bilateral ties. President Xi’s metaphor of the ‘dragon and elephant’ emphasized the importance of cooperation for regional stability and progress.

Following reports of users being able to access the TikTok website, government sources have firmly stated that the ban on the popular video-sharing platform remains in effect. Despite some users reporting access to the website, they were unable to log in or view videos. Furthermore, the TikTok application was not available on app stores. In 2020, India banned 59 Chinese mobile applications, including TikTok, due to concerns regarding national security and data privacy, following the Galwan Valley clashes. The government cited activities deemed prejudicial to India’s sovereignty, integrity, defense, security, and public order. While recent developments have seen India and China taking steps to improve relations, including the resumption of border trade and discussions on resuming direct flights, the TikTok ban remains unchanged.

Salman Khan is currently making headlines. Alongside the upcoming premiere of Bigg Boss 19, his much-anticipated film ‘Battle of Galwan’ has commenced shooting. Fans eagerly awaiting the grand premiere of Bigg Boss 19 this weekend were treated to a sneak peek from the film’s set. A new image from the set has emerged, confirming that the superstar has begun filming the war drama in Ladakh.

Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, the film is expected to be a large-scale patriotic saga. The news broke with an image of Salman Khan on set in Ladakh, the picturesque backdrop. The photograph quickly went viral, with fans and film industry figures congratulating him on the film.

Filming in Ladakh highlights the vast scale of the Galwan battle. This high-altitude location poses a significant challenge, suggesting that the film will feature intense action sequences. Film industry analyst Taran Adarsh also shared the update, stating that Salman Khan’s “powerful presence will take this patriotic saga to a new level.” The released image has greatly excited the fans.

The film, ‘Battle of Galwan,’ is based on the war between Indian and Chinese soldiers in the Galwan Valley in June 2020. The film will tell the story of the bravery and sacrifice of Indian soldiers defending the country’s borders. Salman Khan will portray the role of Colonel Bikkumalla Santosh Babu, a commanding officer posthumously awarded the Maha Vir Chakra, India’s second-highest wartime gallantry award, for his extraordinary courage.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, during a two-day visit to India, met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday. Prior to this meeting, he held discussions with NSA Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. Wang’s visit, which began on Monday, is seen as an effort by both sides to mend their strained relations following the 2020 Galwan Valley clash. According to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, relations with China are improving post-Galwan. The visit of Wang has led to agreements on multiple issues, including maintaining peace and stability on the border and resolving the border dispute as soon as possible. Furthermore, agreements were reached to resume border trade, re-establish direct air services, and increase the number of Indian pilgrims for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. Several other matters also saw mutual consent between the two nations. The meeting between PM Modi and Xi Jinping took place two days after an agreement to disengage troops from Depsang and Demchok in eastern Ladakh between India and China. The Chinese Foreign Minister also met with his counterpart S. Jaishankar.

Key agreements between the two sides include working towards a resolution of the India-China border dispute, establishing an expert group for an early resolution of border demarcation, discussing the reduction of military forces, immediately restoring direct flight services, finalizing the air service agreement, issuing visas to tourists and professionals, expanding the scope of Indian pilgrimages, sharing information related to river waters by China, resuming border trade at three trading points, promoting India-China multilateralism, discussing cooperation on trans-border rivers, and agreeing to celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and China. In the last 9-10 months, there has been significant improvement in India-China relations. Following the meeting with Wang, NSA Doval stated that the borders are peaceful, with peace and harmony prevailing, and that bilateral relations have become more solid. During the meeting with Wang, Doval also mentioned the meeting between PM Modi and Xi Jinping in Kazan, noting that relations improved after this meeting. The two sides discussed various issues, including bilateral, regional, and international matters of common interest. The Indian side strongly raised the issue of cross-border terrorism, to which Wang also expressed agreement. Both sides agreed to maintain peace and harmony on the LAC.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is in India for a two-day visit starting today. Discussions during Wang Yi’s visit may focus on measures for lasting peace and stability on the India-China border. This visit comes before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trip to China later this month, and it is seen as an effort to mend relations between the two countries.

Following a clash in the Galwan Valley in 2020 between the armies of the two countries, tensions arose in their relationship. Both sides have withdrawn their soldiers from the areas of conflict, but the situation is still not calm. Currently, between 50,000 and 60,000 soldiers from both countries are deployed along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh.

This visit is also significant in light of the increasing tensions in India-US relations. US President Donald Trump has doubled the tariffs on Indian goods to 50%, which includes an additional 25% penalty for purchasing Russian oil. Discussions on India-China trade may also take place with Wang Yi.

The Chinese Foreign Minister will hold special talks on the border issue with India’s National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval. Wang and Doval are the nominated Special Representatives for border talks. Doval went to China in December 2024, during which he held special representative talks with Wang.

Wang Yi will arrive in New Delhi around 4:15 pm on Monday. He will hold bilateral talks with Foreign Minister S Jaishankar at 6 pm. On Tuesday morning, he will have talks with NSA Ajit Doval at 11 am. In these meetings, both sides may discuss several major issues, including the border situation, trade, and the restoration of flight services. Afterwards, the Chinese Foreign Minister will meet with Prime Minister Modi at his residence at 5:30 pm.

Prime Minister Modi is visiting China for a 2-day trip starting August 31. He will participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization meeting in Beijing. Modi last visited China in 2018. This will be Modi’s sixth visit to China as Prime Minister.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is scheduled to arrive in Beijing, marking his first visit since the Galwan Valley clashes. The visit, set for Sunday evening, occurs as India and China aim to ease tensions and normalize their relationship.

During his visit, Jaishankar will hold a bilateral meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Their previous meeting took place in February during the G20 summit in Johannesburg.

In addition to the bilateral meeting, Jaishankar will participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Tianjin on July 15. The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed the visit, stating that Jaishankar will also engage in several bilateral discussions during the summit.

The visit comes at a time when India-China relations are strained. Prior to this, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval attended the SCO meeting. A visit to India by Wang Yi is proposed next month, potentially including talks with Ajit Doval regarding the border dispute.

Despite ongoing diplomatic discussions, India is concerned about China’s recent trade practices. China has restricted supplies of essential items, such as rare earth magnets and fertilizers, as well as equipment for the bullet train project. Furthermore, India remains concerned about China’s support for Pakistan, particularly during the May clashes.

India chose not to sign the SCO declaration in June due to the omission of its concerns about terrorism, specifically the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, while including references to incidents in Pakistan.

The SCO, a Eurasian organization comprising 10 nations, includes India, China, Russia, Pakistan, and Iran. The 25th SCO summit is planned for later this year in Tianjin. India chaired the SCO in 2023, and Pakistan hosted the summit in 2024.

The 2020 Galwan clash, the deadliest on the India-China border in four decades, significantly deteriorated relations. However, following a meeting between Prime Minister Modi and President Xi Jinping in Kazan, Russia, last October, both countries agreed to resume talks between special representatives.

A positive development is the resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra after nearly five years. The participation of Prime Minister Modi in the upcoming SCO summit remains uncertain.
