LOS ANGELES: Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds has announced that he has taken “a little sabbatical” from films following the wrap on the Apple TV Plus film “Spirited”.

The 44-year-old actor shared the news in an Instagram post on Saturday, October 16, 2021.

“Perfect time for a little sabbatical from movie making. I’m gonna miss every second working with this obscenely gifted group of creators and artists. These days, kindness matters as much as talent. I’ve been lucky to work with folks who are flush with both,” Reynolds wrote alongside a series of photos of him with cast and crew members on the Christmas-themed musical film.

Directed by Sean Anders and John Morris, “Spirited” is the modern retelling of Charles Dickens’ 1843 novella “A Christmas Carol”.

It also stars Will Ferrell and Octavia Spencer.

Reynolds, who was most recently seen in “Free Guy”, said he had a great time working on the upcoming film.

“Not sure I’d have been ready to say yes to a film this challenging even three years ago. Singing, dancing and playing in the sandbox with Will Ferrell made a whole lotta dreams come true. And this is my second film with the great @octaviaspencer…” he wrote.

The actor will next be seen in the action comedy film “Red Notice”, which will be released on Netflix in November.

It also stars Gal Gadot and Dwayne Johnson.

Reynolds also has “The Adam Project”, a sci-fi movie, also scheduled to be released on the streamer early next year.

Gadot, star of the “Wonder Woman” films franchise, took to Instagram on Tuesday to share the news.

“My sweet family. I couldn’t be more grateful and happy (and tired). We are so excited to welcome Daniella into our family,” the Israeli actor wrote alongside a selfie with the new addition in the family.

“I’m sending all of you love and health,” Gadot, 36, further said in the post.

Varsano also shared the arrival of Daniella on his Instagram page.

  • Gal Gadot criticised after she calls for ‘solution’ to Israel-Palestine conflict

    By PTI
LOS ANGELES: Hollywood star Gal Gadot came under fire on social media after she posted a message of peace in the wake of the latest round of fighting between Israel and Palestine.

Gadot, a former Israeli Defence Forces fighter, posted a statement on Twitter, saying it breaks her heart to her see her “country is at war”.

“My heart breaks. My country is at war. I worry for my family, my friends. I worry for my people. This is a vicious cycle that has been going on for far too long,” the 36-year-old actor wrote.

The “Wonder Woman” star said both Israel and its “neighbour” deserve to live as “free and safe” nations.

“I pray for the victims and their families, I pray for this unimaginable hostility to end, I pray for our leaders to find the solution so we could live side by side in peace. I pray for better days,” Gadot added.

However, her post on Twitter was flooded with replies that criticised her of being a “propaganda” tool for Israel, given her past military service record.

Some also called out her for using the word “neighbour” instead of referencing Palestine by name.

The backlash was so severe and vitriolic that Gadot disabled the comments section to her tweet.

At least 53 Palestinians and six Israelis have been killed in spiralling violence as of Wednesday as Gaza-based militants fired hundreds of rockets on Israel since Monday evening.

Israel has carried out hundreds of airstrikes at Hamas and Islamic Jihad targets in the coastal strip.

  • Joss Whedon kind of threatened my career, says Gal Gadot

    By PTI
LOS ANGELES: “Wonder Woman 194” star Gal Gadot has detailed her experience of working with filmmaker Joss Whedon on the DC movie “Justice League”, saying the director threatened to make her “career miserable”.

The Israeli actor, who essays the role of superhero Wonder Woman in the Warner Bros/DC movies, said Whedon told her to “just be pretty” and say her lines.

“He kind of threatened my career and said if I did something, he would make my career miserable, and I just took care of it instead,” Gadot told Israeli news outlet N12.

The clash reportedly happened when the 36-year-old actor pushed back on some new dialogue Whedon had written.

During the exchange, he also allegedly disparaged “Wonder Woman” director Patty Jenkins.

Whedon took over the reins of “Justice League” after director Zack Snyder left the project in the wake of a family tragedy.

In an interview with The Los Angeles Times last year, Gadot had hinted at her troubling experience with Whedon, saying it was resolved privately.

“I had my own experience with (him), which wasn’t the best one, but I took care of it there and when it happened. I took it to the higher-ups and they took care of it. But I’m happy for Ray to go up and say his truth,” she had said.

Whedon’s alleged toxic behaviour towards the cast of TV shows “Angel” and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and the film “Justice League” first came to light last year.

Actor Ray Fisher, who played the role of Cyborg in the superhero ensemble film, had claimed in a tweet that Whedon was “abusive” and “unprofessional” on the sets of their 2017 DC movie.

WarnerMedia, the parent company behind the DC movie projects, launched an investigation into the claims made by Fisher.

In December, the company issued a statement saying that it had completed the investigation and taken “remedial action” in the matter.

  • ‘Girl gang’: Hollywood actor Gal Gadot reveals gender of third baby

    By ANI
WASHINGTON: Hollywood actor Gal Gadot, who is widely known for playing the lead role in ‘Wonder Woman’ franchise, is growing her girl gang! The star recently revealed that she is expecting a third baby girl with her husband Yaron Varsano.

As per E! News, the actor shared the happy news on the talk show ‘Live with Kelly and Ryan’ hosted by Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest. Gadot said, while spilling the beans about the gender of her third child, “It’s baby girl number three. Yes, we’re sticking to what we know.”

Gadot and Varsano, who tied the knot in 2008, are already proud parents to two daughters- nine-year-old Alma and three-year-old Maya.

As she is preparing to welcome her third baby, Gadot shared what lessons she has learned from the first two kids.

“With Alma, with our first, we completely messed up the whole sleep routine, and when Maya was born, we were like, ‘No more,’” she reflected.

She added, “So Maya is, like, she can sleep through the night since she was five months. Alma–still at 9–sneaks into our bed, so I think that’s something we’re going to stick to doing. We’re going to sleep train her… I feel like this is the hardest part about parenthood, the lack of sleep.”

Another change in her life that came with having kids is how emotional she gets while she is pregnant. Gadot explained that she cries while watching commercials or listening to a good song these days. “I’m a crier right now. Usually I’m so not, that’s why it’s so shocking,” she added.

‘The Death on the Nile’ star shared that she was pregnant back in March, writing on Twitter, “Here we go again,” alongside a family photo.

Three weeks ago, Gadot flaunted her growing baby bump with a picture of herself reading scripts in the yard, as she wore a black one-piece bathing suit. “Working… on two major projects,” she wrote with a winking face.

Varsano starred alongside his wife in the 2020 movie ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ and is producing two of her upcoming projects: ‘Heart of Stone’ and ‘Cleopatra’, which is directed by ‘Wonder Woman’ mastermind Patty Jenkins.

Apart from these, she also has Netflix film ‘Red Notice’ in the pipeline. Gadot will feature in the movie with Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds.

  • Equal pay my biggest struggle, have fought most for it, says actor Gal Gadot

    By PTI
MUMBAI: Even ‘Wonder Woman’ has to fight for equal pay.

Hollywood star Gal Gadot says her biggest struggle as a woman has been against pay disparity between her and her male co-stars.

Gadot, who rose to fame with the 2017 superhero blockbuster “Wonder Woman”, is not new to the conversation around pay disparity.

After the film’s box office success, there were stories that the actor was paid less than what her male counterparts earned in similar roles.

It reignited the debate around the gender pay gap, something that several female Hollywood actors– from Jennifer Lawrence, Salma Hayek to Emma Watson– have spoken about.

During a virtual global press conference for her latest National Geographic series “Impact With Gal Gadot”, the actor was asked about her biggest struggle as a woman.

“My biggest struggle as a woman has been equal pay as my male co-stars, (all of) whom I love so much. As a woman, that has been the biggest thing. As a human being, I have struggled with many other problems. But the thing that I fought for the most, was equal pay with my male stars,” Gadot replied.

The 35-year-old actor, now an influencial Hollywood star, has come on board for National Geographic’s “Impact With Gal Gadot” as an executive producer.

The six-part short-form documentary series will highlight stories of resilient women around the globe.

The series, Gadot said, was born out of her desire to steer her massive global reach towards issues that needed attention which the “cameras won’t necessarily aim to cover.”

The team decided it was the perfect opportunity to tell female-driven stories to inspire others to contribute towards the progress of society.

“There’s something so refreshing to surround yourself and to hear, to see stories that are driven by good and goodwill….What makes the show unique is that you see women who come from problematic backgrounds- whether it’s discrimination, natural disasters, or loss.

“Whatever it might be, they don’t let it put them down. They use the pain that they are struggling with and turn it into something positive that can affect other people,” she said.

According to the makers, “Impact” follows inspiring women living in “communities marred by violence, poverty, trauma, discrimination, oppression and natural disasters, and yet against all odds, they dare to dream, stand out, speak up.”

The series will chronicle stories of six women- from a 19-year-old college student in Puerto Rico, a ballet dancer in Brazil, a trauma therapist from California to a formally homeless transwoman in Tennessee, fighting against odds and helping the community grow.

Gadot said when the team started researching for stories of courage of different women three years ago, the show was not limited to only the United States.

“Then COVID hit. Then we thought to go back to the sketch board and figure out domestic stories that will be strong enough to have an effect, inspire people. The amount of stories we found were mind-blowing…,” she said.

While the show aims to put the spotlight on unsung women, Gadot’s credits her mother and grandmother as her earliest role models.

Growing up in Israel, Gadot said her mother— a teacher—taught her and her younger sister to be “confident, to love ourselves, dream and dare.”

The episodes will go live on Nat Geo Global YouTube channels, with the first one titled “Ice Breakers” scheduled to premiere on April 26.

These episodes will go live on the India YouTube channel, two days after the episodes have been published on the global YouTube channel.

The series would then premiere on National Geographic Channel India in the coming months.

Ahead of the premiere, Gadot hoped that the docu-series serves as a reminder to people that they hold the power to bring about a change, even if it looks daunting in the beginning.

“Over time, what I would love to be to happen, is to create a community of people who want to do good.

The thing about doing good and making a change is that everyone wants to do it but we feel ‘Where do we start?’ “The thing about the show and what it shows you is that it starts small. That you can start with small actions and actually have great impact,” she added.
