Pakistan has informed the International Monetary Fund (IMF) about the economic damage caused by recent floods. The government revealed that the floods resulted in a loss of 371 billion rupees ($1.2 billion). The infrastructure and agriculture sectors bore the brunt of the damage. The floods claimed the lives of 1,006 people, injured 1,063, and damaged 12,569 homes.

The government had set a GDP growth target of 4.2% for the fiscal year 2025-26, but this is now projected to decrease to 3.9% due to the impact of the floods. Finance ministry officials told the IMF that Pakistan requires $26 billion in external funding, with $12 billion needed immediately.

The floods caused extensive damage to Pakistan’s infrastructure, including 2,133 kilometers of roads, 248 bridges, and 866 water structures. In addition, 1,098 schools, 128 healthcare centers, and 3.026 million acres of agricultural land were affected. Livestock, businesses, and public buildings also suffered significant losses.

Looking at the regional impact, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded the highest number of deaths (504), followed by Punjab (304), Sindh (80), Great Britain (41), Jammu and Kashmir (38), Balochistan (30), and Islamabad (9). Balochistan saw the most damage to homes, with 5,086 houses destroyed. Roads and bridges were also damaged in various provinces.

The agriculture sector suffered a loss of 155 billion rupees. Crops like cotton, wheat, sugarcane, and maize were affected. Cotton production could decrease by 1.5 to 2 million bales, while wheat production may decline by 0.7 to 1.3 million tons. The growth rate of the agricultural sector could fall to 4%.

The industrial sector’s growth rate is projected to decrease from 4.3% to 4.2%, and the growth in the electricity, gas, and water supply sector is expected to drop from 3.5% to 2.9%. The service sector’s growth may also decline from 4% to 3.7%.

To secure funding, Pakistan informed the IMF that it plans to launch a Panda bond in the Chinese market in November, targeting $250 to $300 million. A Eurobond is planned for April 2026. To increase foreign exchange reserves, Pakistan purchased over $500 million from the interbank market in June 2025, bringing its total reserves to $7.7 billion.

The Canadian government has released a report addressing the funding of terrorist organizations, expressing concern over the financial support provided to Khalistani terrorist groups within the country. According to the report issued by the Canadian Department of Finance, various terrorist organizations, including Khalistani extremist groups, are receiving funding from Canada for politically motivated violent activities.

This marks the first time Canada has acknowledged the presence of Khalistani terrorist organizations within its borders and admitted to them receiving funding. Canada has long been considered a haven for organizations such as Babbar Khalsa, the International Sikh Youth Federation, and Sikhs for Justice. India has maintained for a considerable time that Khalistani terrorists have found refuge in Canada, and that the Canadian government has not taken the issue seriously.

The Canadian government has confirmed India’s accusations that organizations linked to Khalistani terrorists are receiving funding from Canada and other countries. A new report on terrorism financing by the Canadian…

The Canadian government has confirmed India’s accusations that organizations linked to Khalistani terrorists are receiving funding from Canada and other countries. A new report on terrorism financing by the Canadian government indicates that at least two Khalistani extremist groups have received financial assistance from within the country. This report, titled “2025 Assessment of Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Risk in Canada,” identifies Babbar Khalsa International and the International Sikh Youth Federation as the Khalistani extremist groups receiving financial support from Canada.

A report from Ottawa’s intelligence agency had previously stated that the threat of politically motivated violent extremism in Canada arose from Khalistani extremists attempting to use violent methods to create an independent country called Khalistan in India’s Punjab region.

The new Canadian government report, released two months after the initial report, explains that politically motivated violent extremism encourages the use of violence to establish new political systems or structures within existing ones. The report notes that politically motivated violent extremism may involve religious elements, but its factors are more focused on political self-determination or representation rather than racial or ethnic dominance.

According to the report, several terrorist organizations listed under the Criminal Code of Canada and involved in politically motivated violent extremism, such as Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Khalistani violent extremist groups Babbar Khalsa International and the International Sikh Youth Federation, are receiving financial assistance from within Canada.

A 2022 report by the Financial Transactions and Report Analysis Centre of Canada identified Hezbollah as the second most frequently cited international terrorist organization receiving funds from Canada. The 2025 report also provides a detailed description of politically motivated violent extremism financing methods, highlighting that Hamas and Hezbollah are well-established and well-resourced groups that fall into this category.

The report reveals that these groups use various financing methods to sustain their activities, including misuse of banking sectors, the use of cryptocurrencies, government funding, misuse of charitable and non-profit organizations, and criminal activities.

The report reveals that Khalistani extremist groups supporting violent methods to establish an independent region in India’s Punjab province are suspected of fundraising in Canada and several other countries. These groups previously had a fundraising network in Canada, but it now appears that they consist of small groups of individuals who are loyal to the issue but have no specific connection to any particular group.

The misuse of non-profit and charitable activities is a concern for the mentioned organizations. This report appears to validate New Delhi’s claims that pro-Khalistan elements in Canada are continuing anti-India activities without any restrictions.

At a program held at the Bapu Auditorium in Patna, madrasa teachers requested Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to increase their salaries and disburse pending payments. CM Nitish Kumar assured that he would consider the matter. The event was organized on August 21st to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Madrasa Board.

According to reports, approximately 15,000 people attended the event, including some teachers from the Madrasa Board. They demonstrated in front of CM Nitish Kumar regarding the increase in their salaries, after which the CM himself came to them and assured them of considering their demands.

An estimated 3,200 madrasas exist in Bihar. Among these, 1,600 receive grants from the state government, while the other 1,600 are not grant-aided. Regarding salaries, experienced Maulvis and Fazils receive around ₹50,000 per month. Newly appointed teachers across all four positions receive salaries ranging from ₹24,000 to ₹34,000. Maulvi positions are equivalent to Intermediate, Alim to Graduation, and Fazil to PG, while Hafiz provides religious education.

Madrasas are categorized as ‘Wastaniya’ up to class 8, Fauqania up to class 10, Maulvi up to class 12, and Alim at the graduate level. Madrasa teachers protested, stating that their salaries are pending and the Madrasa Board is in poor condition. In May, madrasa teachers in Darbhanga also expressed their dissatisfaction with the government due to unpaid salaries. The state has 1,600 madrasas that do not receive grants from the state government.

Pakistan is currently facing challenges from insurgent organizations like the TTP (Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan) and BLA. The Pakistani government has accused the Afghan Taliban government of aiding the TTP and sheltering its militants. A report in a Pakistani newspaper has revealed details about this support.

According to Pakistan Today, the Afghan Taliban is providing regular financial assistance to the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), including a monthly payment of approximately 30 lakh Afghanis (43,000 US dollars) to the family of the group’s leader, Noor Wali Mehsud.

This money is reportedly used to purchase weapons, develop military infrastructure, and carry out attacks against Pakistan. The report also alleges that the Taliban is providing safe havens and training camps for the TTP in the Afghan provinces of Kunar, Nangarhar, Paktika, and Khost, which is helping the group expand its recruitment network and activities.

The report further states that the Taliban has sheltered TTP commanders and fighters, allowing them to reorganize, strengthen their network, and launch cross-border attacks. In addition to this, the TTP itself collects money through various means, including crime, extortion, donations, and funds from other large terrorist organizations.

Pakistani officials have long accused the Afghan Taliban of supporting the TTP. However, the Taliban has consistently denied these allegations, insisting that Pakistan’s security issues are an internal matter that should be resolved domestically. There have been several instances of clashes between the two over the TTP issue.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, known for ChatGPT, is reportedly preparing to rival Elon Musk’s Neuralink. Merge Labs, a new brain-to-computer interface company, is being developed by Altman. The startup is in its early stages but is valued at approximately $850 million (around 7,434 crore). Funding is expected primarily from OpenAI’s ventures branch, though no final decision has been made. Alex Blania, who leads Tools for Humanity, is also said to be involved in this project. This company is recognized for its eye-scanning device, which verifies whether a person is genuine. Merge Labs aims to enter a similar field as Elon Musk’s Neuralink. Neuralink, established in 2016, develops chips that can be implanted in the brain, enabling severely paralyzed individuals to control devices with their thoughts. Neuralink is conducting human trials and raised $600 million earlier this year at a $9 billion valuation. Both companies are working on technologies that could revolutionize how humans interact with machines.
